    Camshaft actuator seals

I learned a good trick just now too about seals. If they are still soft, pop the spring out and shorten it. New lease of life.

    Handy tip to clean carpet.

Yeah. I have removed stuff on the carpet from greasy boots and chewing gum like that. Then I scrub it all gently with a wet towel and laundry detergent. Then just a wet towel. Then a dry towel. Not like taking it to the professional carpet cleaners, but pretty good, and near free.

    DIY Polyurethane Bushings

Post office refused to ship liquid polyurethane rubber. eBay order was cancelled and I was refunded. But no way I am giving up. I am just going to find the place here as is selling the rubber. Raw materials are abundant here, so it will be around. One of my mates even found the ingredients to...

    DIY Polyurethane Bushings

It's gonna be good. Two trailing arms delivered = US$400 Two rear upper control arms delivered = US$400 4kg liquid rubber delivered = $56 They don't even make bushings for these parts. So sneaky. Choices are, buy the whole parts, try and find a manufacturer on Alibaba who can send you the...

    DIY Polyurethane Bushings

Yeah, I am really interested in it. I saw all those videos about 3M window weld, crack filling etc. I have ordered Polytek liquid rubber to try casting some rear control and trailing arm bushes directly into the part for my Durango. I will be back here for sure about it.

    Blue vs. Black Fuel Injectors

OK thanks. Yeah, I wasn't too satisfied with the Chinese ones in the long run. Think I will clean these blue ones. I got a little kit with o-rings and filters and that white cap for the end. I will see if they don't go a bit better.

    Blue vs. Black Fuel Injectors

The original fuel injectors from my car are black. At the back. I got these bluish ones from a wreck which are original as well. the ones at the front. What's different about them?

How to tell if timing chains have been replaced?

Timing chains fail in all makes of cars that use them as a drive mechanism. That is their downside. Lucky in the Holdens they are cheap and easy to replace. A lot of cars it is engine out!

    DIY Polyurethane Bushings

They kept crumbling. The stuff was kind of waxy. Grinder is a good idea. Check out this dude making an engine mount. He must have tough forearms. I wouldn't want him giving me a nipple gripple.

    DIY Polyurethane Bushings

This guy just carves you a new bushing our of a bit of old tractor tyre. He is a genius at it. I watched a bunch of his videos. I don't know how he still has 10 fingers. We couldn't master the art of making them on the lathe. I think the rod they sell in the shops here is the wrong...

    5l40E shift issues

Drove till made noise + debris = overhaul time for sure. There will be damage and/or bits inside it, and you can spend heaps trying to fix it by dropping the pan and changing this and that and buying more fluid every time, when what it really needs is to be pulled apart and thoroughly cleaned...

slight moisture in engine oil filler cap?

Maybe your issues with smoke and running rough are bad camshaft position sensors, or cracked/broken wiring there. That will do it.

How to Remove VZ Driver's Seatbelt

Cool. It is easy. I just did it myself in my sedan. Did you say a mechanic wanted $700? I can't believe my eyes.

    Bung in my hole

He sure made a bracket to be proud of. Reminds me of how they are always pulling the computers out of a coolant bath in spaceship movies. I couldn't claim any credit for anything like that. My methods are pretty rude.

    Bung in my hole

Nah you guys. It is a good idea. But you are thinking about my oil catch can. I made a bracket for that so I did not have to drill my car. My computer is stuck on the front of the engine in the regular spot. It has been there 16 years now, exposed every summer to the melting Saudi heat, so I...

    Timing Chain Questions

Yeah right amazing. I reckon it is far out how they just spin on the aluminium like that. Look on the bright side. Whatever crept out the oil port on the scored one made an extra oil canal. New timing chains will make it run like new. Nice one. You inspire me to do more work on mine actually...

    Timing Chain Questions

How is your old motor going to go, I wonder, and for how long? Mine has done 250 000km, and I will be honest. While I give it maximum love, I just flog it when I am driving. I never do burnouts, but I drive it hard through the desert and on the freeway here. I keep thinking it is going to crap...

    Timing Chain Questions

I reckon leave the heads on there. It only takes a moment to pull the camshafts and all the other bits out, and it makes cleaning inside there heaps easier. You will see what I mean about cleaning the bearings when you do it. That is the one part probably necessary. There is nothing to it. But...

    Timing Chain Questions

Thanks for pics. You wanna pull them out cause underneath the journals there are oil ports and they will be half crusted for sure. Half blocked off probably. And the big caps at the end have some ports and channels that will be crusted too. They pump and distribute oil into the 'bearings'.

    Timing Chain Questions

I wonder what the camshaft journals in the heads look like after 300 000. Any chance of a pic? You know, where they are just spinning on the aluminium there. The aluminium. Not the camshaft itself. The bearing without a bearing. I have been wondering if that bit wears out.

    Timing Chain Questions

Man, a few 5000km oil changes and that engine would be clean as. That's nothing. Mostly it is just your valve covers, which you have off already. You don't have to pull the heads off to clean it. I scrub everything with gasoline, wash it down into the sump. Then dump the sump and clean it at...

VZ V6 to V8 Crewman Build (Mr Walker)

Your shed is legendary, full of cool stuff. I saw one of those Howard engines in a chopper when I was a kid. It was in a biker mag. Remember when we used to have to read magazines? I liked that too. I wonder if we saw the same picture.

    Bung in my hole

The plug to the injector, and the plug the other end. You have to find the ends of the wires and check the pins aren't pushed in or damaged in the plugs, and send a current down them and see if it is travelling the wire with a test light. That is simple method, I am not any electrician. But it...

    Bung in my hole

We were just saying to another bloke, you can get them repaired, mate. It is the easiest and cheapest way. Otherwise you have to get a whole set of computers and keys or buy and reprogramme another one. I see on eBay they are pretty expensive in Australia. A used one, which you gotta get...

    Bung in my hole

No joke I caught fire last year revving a car with a misfire. The guts of the catalytic converter shattered from unburned fuel on it, and a piece of burning honeycomb came out the exhaust and somehow blew up onto the plastic bumper. Another person driving by said 'you're on fire', and lo and...

    Bung in my hole

I reckon just use the same plugs. Those iridium ones last forever. Just clean them with petty or thinners. If one of them was in a misfiring cylinder it might be caked with gunk. Problem is solved with new injectors, right?

Rear Additional Control Arm Assembly/Toe Rods

One of those Indian radius arm bushings failed. Just disintegrated. I dropped the car before I tightened it too. I just bought an original one. US$70. Ouch.
