What do you hate about your VZ?

I just sold a 2006 Alloytec S pac ute. FYI it has a L.S.D. Notchy auto gear select is disappointing. Same thing on my VZ SS Thunder ute. Also diff clunk is really annoying - also on V6 and V8. Not good.

    Shane Warne dead.

Sudden and unexpected heart problems and/or deaths can result from the Covid Vax. Could this be another cover up? Will we ever know the truth about Warnies vax status or the real cause of his death? R.I.P.

2007 VE SSV L98 lifter tick

You might find this youtube vid. of use. Also I did quite a bit of research on lifters which might be of interest. Not sure how this forum works but you could try searching my posts re. L76 lifter tick (VZ Thunder). Some good info from others joining the discussion. - link to my youtube vid...

    Alloytec 190 Water Pump cost

Are you sure it is the water pump that is leaking? Very common for the filler neck tube "O" rings to fail and these are cheap and relatively easy to replace. Close inspection of the source of the leak is recommended - to be sure, to be sure.

Rear engine seal leak - quick fix?

My 2006 VZ Alloytec ute developed a small engine oil leak at around 120,000 km. Have had vehicle from new and never abused it. Correct oil, changed every 10,000 km. By process of elimination it appears that the rear engine seal is at fault, resulting in small drops of oil dripping from the...

    Auto transmission service

Good idea to torque pan bolts in the correct sequence. 12Nm. Also check and re torque after say 1,000 km as the bolts can become loose over time, resulting in ATF weeping past the gasket.

    l76 lifter tick

To update (and correct) my Nov 04 post. I have been in contact with GMH auto parts distributor in Perth WA. 'The parts guy' informs me that even the last of the L77 engines used 8 x DOD lifters and 8 x solid lifters. Also thanks shane_3800. The part number for the DOD lifters was changed in...

Thanks. Recent detailed post by krusing is just perfect.

    Oil pressure sensor - 2006 VZ Thunder - L76

I understand that to replace the VLOM screen/filter I have to remove the oil pressure sensor. Can anyone say if I need to remove the intake plenum to get to those parts? As my L76 has factory disabled DOD perhaps oil never actually passes through the screen and it can be removed? What do you...

    l76 lifter tick

Assuming you have the L76 in stock form with auto trans. - i.e. DOD hardware present and factory DOD disabled. However if it is the manual with no DOD hardware, most of the following will still be relevant. My understanding is that there shouldn't be any specific issue with the DOD lifters...

    l76 lifter tick

Yup - lots of posts with opinions but not too much hard fact. I've recently posted on the VF web site regarding lifter issues/oil consumption. You might find that thread of interest. On my last post I included a youtube clip which has pretty good sound of a cold engine. Lots of rattle and...

VZ Thunder - Manta 2.5" s/s catback review

For anyone who is interested. Just had a 2.5" Manta catback fitted - (SSMKHN0233) to replace stock exhaust on a stock motor. It is the "medium" exhaust with two straight through (with glass pack) hotdogs up front and a straight through (with glass pack) muffler at the rear. Seems to be well...

L77 - AFM/DOD improved over time. But high oil consumption?

Summarising the responses to date:- 1) Excessive lifter noise seems to be a problem with L76 engines whether DOD is factory disabled or not. 2) VE series L77 engines with factory improved DOD system active - seems that roughly 50% have lifter issues and 50% are fine. 3) VF series 1 L77 engine...

L77 - AFM/DOD improved over time. But high oil consumption?

p.s. Thanks for all replies to date. I have copied my original post to the VZ and VE forums in an effort to spread the word more widely and hopefully receive some more data relating to DOD and reliability/oil consumption issues. p.p.s. My posts to VZ and VE forums have been taken down...

L77 - AFM/DOD improved over time. But high oil consumption?

I did replace the DOD Filter earlier in the year as I had a noisy lifter, [especially when its cold, but not as notable when it gets hot, but still a little bit noisy] DOD present or not: Present DOD enabled or disabled. Enabled. Krusing I've been trawling through some old posts and I note...

L77 - AFM/DOD improved over time. But high oil consumption?

Thanks Ron, Yes, the point of my post is "to understand any potential reliability issues which are likely to arise from the system". I used the example of my own L76 to provide context, not to resolve a specific issue. My long post provides (hopefully) some useful information for those...

L77 - AFM/DOD improved over time. But high oil consumption?

There are many posts relating to AFM/DOD lifter failure. Also several posts on the improvements made to AFM/DOD over time - (thank you Monstar). I am interested in AFM/DOD, not so much from a performance point of view but really to understand any potential reliability issues which are likely...

2006 VZ Thunder Ute - Twin Exhaust

That's exactly right. Thanks. FYI (anyone who is interested) I spent some time with Holden Spares Dept yesterday and they searched through there parts diagrams and lists for that part (rear RHS bumper pod with 'cut out' for dual exhaust). Couldn't find one. So it appears that a dual outlet...

2006 VZ Thunder Ute - Twin Exhaust

Thanks Trevor. Really wanting to keep the original VZ ute look, just with twin exhausts. The VZ Thunder ute has a separate RHS and a LHS bumper bar/bumper pod. So I'm looking for a RHS unit with cut out, or info on mod's to the existing unit to allow the extra exhaust to exit with proper...

2006 VZ Thunder Ute - Twin Exhaust

Looking to change original single sided exhaust to double sided. Wanting to know if Holden produced rear offside bumper panel with 'cut out' to allow for double sided exhaust. I have heard that the last of the VZ Thunders actually had a double sided exhaust which had the required 'cut out' and...
