yep agree with Lex, seems your gasket coolant port seal is leaking into bolt hole of manifold. Using any sealant is only a temp fix and coolant could/will leak into other areas once pressure is higher with fix.

VT is totally different sender to VS one. You can fit a VT sender unit on top of tank but it takes a lot of modification/cutting/welding along with changing lines and different fittings.

Why not get your original tank pin holes fixed, either welded or brazed/soldered at a radiator specialist. Hard to find a good original 35 year old VL tank now at a sensible price. Any early tank with the twist turn style fuel sender (without bolts) like your VL V8 sender should fit.
