Another "have a look at my crash" thread

Wow it's not often you associate a crash like that with a kangaroo. The car however came out amazingly well considering. Good to hear you're all mostly ok and hopefully it'll be a lesson learned for everyone :)

How to fit sub in VR sedan boot

something simple nobody has mentioned is sticking a piece of MDF under the carpet and then screwing the sub box down into it so the carpet is sandwhiched between the sub box and piece of MDF under the carpet. holds things firm, isn't unsitely and requires minimal effort.

Installing amp in a VS calais

ok, just to add to what's been said, yes, easiest way to do it on an automatic is to use the clutch grommet that has been pointed out already in this thread. simply pry it right out, drill a hole just a little smaller than the cable so that you can fit it through with some WD-40/light coat of...

    Sound Deadening

and yet when you chuck a sheet behind the number plate all of a sudden the rattles there are gone... It can often work very well to stop rattles also by adding weight and reducing vibrations or by forming the barrier between two vibrating panels. But yeah, if eliminating rattles is the main...

Post your car audio system and pictures

Yeah, the current thread was actually what i was referring to. If you read the whole thing you'll see that a number of the SPL competitors who have posted in that thread who have used numerous types of cable have measured the Crazy Cables in comparision to Stinger and the likes and have said...

    Sound Deadening

Yeah, if you go the way of a decent deadening mat like Dynamat Extreme you're looking at a couple of hundred dollars to for the boot. I managed to use more than an entire boot pack just on the boot walls, let alone boot floor or lid.

Big Confession to make here (which leads to a problem)

Alot of decent batteries won't last 2 hours without charging if you have your music going fairly loud, let alone an old/well used one.

Post your car audio system and pictures

Hi there, congratulations on the new car. i'm running those splits, but hopefully that will change one day. Just a note, if you're planning on upgrading the battery, i'd just be upgrading some of the wiring under the hood there and wouldn't bother with a capacitor. There's a majority view...

    Pimped Out?

$1400 stereo from about 3 years back, 80cm TV from around the same time, VCR, Playstation, Xbox - all in custom built entertainment unit. Computer system next to it, air-con, king single bed, boring crap like computer desk and cupboards :P. Used to all be pretty flash back in the day, now it's...

    VS Takes Ages To Start...

if the changing of a battery seems to be a fix, may i suggest your first step is one that will cost you next to nothing - clean the battery terminals down thoroughly and perhaps make sure the ground point has a strong connection that's grease free and paint free. Could fix it without shelling...

Speed camera in wheely bin - are they in use in Qld or anywhere else?

haha cameras in wheely bins... hadn't heard that one. would be funny if they are being used, just not for you i suppose. and i agree, if you see one, make sure to dispose of your rubbish appropriately.

    VS Series II Carputer

hey there harmer56, nice work on the carputer. I have one i'm planning out for my VS Commodore also, so you can definitely expect some pm's in the months to come, most likely in regards to physical installation than hardware though. Anyways, if you do any more work on it keep us posted, i'm...

    Amp cutting out!!

larger cable means more potential power, not more power there all the time. Power for the amp would be drawn in an "on demand" fashion so having bigger cable would allow you to draw more power but at lower volumes it shouldn't be your issue.

    Amp cutting out!!

does that amp have a protection indicator on it? (little red light that goes on when something ain't right)? If so, have a look and see if it comes on when the amp cuts out. If it's only cutting out when you crank it you could be send your amp into protection when you try and feed it too much...

    fusion or clarion

Fusion do make some fairly good equipment at the higher end (if you like SPL). I think the best thing that ever came out from Clarion was an exceptional SQ headunit they put out awhile back. Cost a pretty penny, but it was apparently up there as a benchmark in car audio. No idea whether they...

my system eventually, do you agree?

i'd make up a box yourself if you can... it's not that difficult really and it can be done with minimal tools it just takes a bit longer. a $30 jigsaw (or free if you have a mate with one) and say $20-$30 for some MDF, $20 to cover glue/screws and you could make a box that matches the subwoofer...

    please help ?

ok, i'm not sure what it's like on the vy, but on the VS, if you have an automatic there's a big old clutch grommet that is unused (oval in shape, has no wires running through it). There is loads of space to run a power wire through there. As for your kick panels, once again, i'm not sure on...

    stock front speakers cutting out

yeah, also those with around 175,000km. i had the very same problem. once i chucked the amp in and new wires were run for everything though the problem dissapeared. i think it's almost undeniable that the speaker wire is at fault.

my system eventually, do you agree?

yup, for a first system when you're after value for money i think you're wise with your jaycar choices

    Boot Setup

What i'm doing with mine is redoing a false floor made from MDF and chucking a piece of glass in it just above the amplifier, perhaps some lighting underneath there with the amp too. The subs... i haven't decided what direction i want them to face yet, will depend on sound etc. if you want...

You won't believe what I just did! LMAO!

I think i know your problem dude. I'm a victim of Sony headunit syndrome and i asked myself the same question when i chucked mine in. Try hitting the DSO button a few times until it's off. If i remember correctly, when i read the manual it's there to compensate for crap speakers with no...

    Fire wall penetration

I doubt you'll find any spare run of power wire sufficient for an amplifier sitting around in there. But that's besides the point, this is for sensors so i'm assuming huge runs aren't needed. Anyways, go with what people have said if you have an automatic, look on the firewall and there is a...

    VS Statesman Interior help needed!

I'm going to take a stab and say he's seen the leather/PVC seats you can have made up on Ebay to suit a VS commodore and he's wanting to know whether to simply order them to fit a "VS commodore" or whether they're going to need to be statesman specific.

    Rearward vs Forward facing Subs?

I think to a certain extent SOME people are interested in both sides of the story though, both practical and theoretical. I can stuff around with a sub, face it front, back, upside down, inside out (not literally) and find out which sounds best, but at the end of the day i still want to know...

VN? - VR+VS Rear Parcel Shelf Removal (+photos 56k warning)

Hi dude, excellent write up. The pictures help people out so much more than words sometimes. I was considering doing a write up for this myself once my holidays started, but you've saved me the time and effort! I might be doing a write up on a few other things over the coming weeks. Keep up...

    Pioneer DVD and Vehicle Dynamics

how much do you enjoy fiddling with electronics? May not be your avenue, but have you considered a Carputer instead? (car computer just in case you didn't know) :p For the price of that unit you could do quite alot. Think all your music in one place playing through a harddrive, touchscreen...

    Mounting amps on bootlid

hhmm if this goes ahead i'd be interested to see pictures. I'd agree with the others, i'd be cautious mounting the amp on the bootlid, mainly because of the impact element of opening and closing. For my boot i'm going to be re-making a false floor and hopefully get around to having some glass...

    Urgent Help

yup, go the jaycar 6.5" splits in the front. when it's all in fade out your rear speakers to about 30% of what the fronts are generating. I dunno if the jaycar's will fit straight in like a glove, but hey there'll be plenty of ways round it.
  34. B

    Rearward vs Forward facing Subs?

so as a GENERAL rule, you'll get higher SPL by having your subs positioned at the very back of the boot (i.e. up against the rear seats) and having your subs facing backwards in the boot also (i.e. pointing towards the taillights)? It's just i can see different people interepreting what...

    Where to put crossovers?

yeah i'd go with what garfa said. the way mine are mounted i took the black plastic guard off on the passenger side and mounted it up there. on the driver side it's mounted to the release door that gives you access to all your fuses, but if you plan on taking stuff apart again it's probably a...

    Neon Light Usage????

are we talking left on for the purposes of not having your battery die or left on for the purposes of not having the neons break? There's been several people on this forum who have accidently left them on overnight, came back to the car the next morning and it's started with no problems (and...

The Debadging HYPER GLOBAL MEGA THREAD

or for the more poverty of us, boiling water and fishing line will suffice :p. just run plenty of water over it and work the fishing line behind it slowly. word of warning - if you have a VS the bonnet badge is also secured in the bonnet itself with two holes... i found this out...

    Subs: Cadence vs. Pioneer

yeah, at that level i'd have to agree with garfa, it's probably up to personal preference which you like the sound of most. Pioneer may not be brilliant, but most people seem to see them as a fairly reliable choice, unless of course it's headunits and then there seems to be lots of stories of...

The Debadging HYPER GLOBAL MEGA THREAD

ok, i've debaged my VS, but haven't gotten rid of the gunky glue yet. Where abouts in woolworths is the eucalyptus oil and how much does it cost? (Save me walking through ever isle because i don't know what else it's used for).

    Upgrade audio system???

what sort of budget are you looking at overall? (Obviously you don't have all the money now, but it's good to start with a ballpark figure, otherwise things get out of hand - trust me). One suggestion based on what you've said, spend a little more on front speakers and then either nothing or...
