Has anyone used a VR timing gear set on a VP?

Well I decided to try it. Fitted the sprockets, chain and tensioner as well as a VR v6 timing case. Started it up after rotating the crank 720 degrees to make sure all was ok and it seems to run nicely with no noticeable difference to the timing. Now I've just got to take the VR case back...

Has anyone used a VR timing gear set on a VP?

Hi guys, I need to replace the timing chain and gears on the Buick 3800 v6 in my '93 VP. I have a set (crank and cam gears, chain and tensioner) for a VR 3800 v6 and I was wondering if I can use that on my VP's motor. I can see that I would need to swap my oil pump for a VR one - which I...

Vr V8, stuck in est mode and open loop fuel mode.

G'day, Ive got a VR V8 Statesman on duel fuel and honestly I'm about ready to burn it. At the moment it idles like a dog, hunting from 300rpm all the way to about 1200rpm constantly. its worse on gas - more violent and tends to stall as the revs drop back down. its not as bad on petrol - wont...

[VIC] WTB VS V6 extractors. pacemaker lukey diflippo xforce. any

Hey mate I've got a pair of VS Geine extractors and the Y pipe to go with them. They are in good nick. We also had the exhaust shop weld proper flanges onto the bottom of them as well as the Y pipe, so they're easy to fit. $100 for the lot and I'm in Rowville, just up Eastlink from you. Sorry I...

Hi all, My VS Stato has got a v6 ectoech with a 4l60e trans, the trans is supposed to be a stage 2 unit fitted with corvette servos. Over the last two months it started flaring up when shifting from 1st into 2nd, it wasn't too noticable but over the last few days its gotten to the point...

VE Calais 2006 - 'Clunk' noise

The Ve has had numerous front end suspension revisions over its production due to numerous complaints of suspensions knocks, early ones are especially common for this. Common faults include faulty engine mounts, strut top bushes and bearings, sway bar 'D' bushes and most commonly they fit rubber...

    Vp Panhard bushes

The grease serves two purposes, firstly it makes pressing the bushes in a shitload easier. Secondly it stops the new bushes from creaking and squeaking as certain loads and forces act upon the suspension.

    Pacemaker or genie extractors?

I just fitted a set of Genie's to a VS V6 Stato, the problem with this set was that the extractors were welded onto the y-pipe and cat, making it an engine out job to fit them. Incidently it took about three hours to re-fit the motor and box in around the extractors and its not a job I ever want...

    retarded VS lol

Could also be a worn starter motor, my VP used to start like a champ when cold but as soon as the engine warmed up, if you switched off the motor and tried to re-start it, it would crank over very slowly. It turns out that it was slowly seizing up and the heat from the engine was creating higher...

    Vs Air Bag Light

if all else fails, replace the bulb and bulb holder in the dash. When the bulbs get old they build up a high electrical resistance and if this becomes high enough, it can trip a fault code within the srs system, ironicly causing the globe to light up. Its a long shot, but i once had this problem...

    go topless

Removing the roof of your vehicle will compromise its structural integrity, and as you guessed will require significant underbody bracing just to keep the car from collapsing in between the axles. You could think of it like this, the roof is what stops the floor from flexing and the floor stops...

    Fasteners

You want M8 thread bolts, roughly 16-20mm in length. From memory those are the ones we use. You can still get the correct rivets from Holden and many mechanics would recommend this rather than bolts as they reduce the risk of anything coming loose, however I've personally never had trouble with...

    Fluid leaks after service

Your diff plug is likely to be worn or shrunk if its a rubber type. If its a threaded bolt type, then its likely missing a plug washer. Also remember automatic transmissions need their oil checked at operating temperature (not cold), with the car running in park. Also, always check the dipstick...

    Vp Panhard bushes

Its fairly straightforward, jack up the rear of your car and place it on stands. Next, undo the retaining bolt at each end and pull or pry the panhard rod free from the vehicle. Next step is to press out the old bushes using a hydraulic press, alternativley you can press them out using a bench...

    88 vn 5 speed

If the car has Rego and a RWC, good paint and is in good overall condition, but stock I think you could get anywhere up to $3000. Its hard to say though without seeing the car and not knowing where you're from. I just had my VP converted to gas a few months ago and it runs very well on LPG...

Wow, didn't even know this type of thing happened.

Mate, thats some bad luck. I replaced one of those at home on my back under the car and it was a massive pain in the butt. I can't believe anyone would go to that effort over a part that costs $80 new. All that crawling in and out, working in the dark, getting covered in petty.. all I can say is...

How many K's on your VR/VS

We've got a 1996 VS Berlina S2, we bought it in late 2000 to replace our trusty XF. At the time it had 59,000kms, at the moment its done just over 169,000. Its had a lot of money poured into it over the years, its had a reco gearbox, heaps of A/c work, bushes, rear springs, p/s pump, a couple...

Replacing Shift Solenoids in VS auto trans.

I fitted the new solenoids this afternoon and gave the gearbox a service. Everything seems fine so far, the engine light turned off the first time we went to start the car afterwards and on the test drive it shifted through the gears as smooth as silk. Brilliant. I also took the opportunity...

Replacing Shift Solenoids in VS auto trans.

Thanks guys, I've decided to replace both solenoids and put a service kit through the box, hopefully that should sort it out, but we'll see. I'll report back with my findings next week. Cheers, Dicko.

Replacing Shift Solenoids in VS auto trans.

G'day guys, My mum has a 1996 VS s2 V6. Recently we've had trouble with the trans not shifting the way it should. When I scanned the computer, it came up with a fault code along the lines of '2-3 shift solenoid fault'. Now, from what I understand the auto trans has two shift solenoids, an...

    VH 253 troubles

G'day guys, My brother and I bought a VH SL/X wagon today, it runs a blue 253 and a 4 speed. Its our first Commodore and our first V8. The idea was for it to donate its engine and box to my HG sedan. We drove it home and gave the previous owner his battery back (It wasn't included). My only...

VH SL Wiring And Other Issues.

G'day, A mate of mine recently bought a VH Commodore SL as his first car. He doesn't know much about cars and he isn't mechanicly minded, so he asked me to give him a hand getting it on the road. However my expertise in old Holdens only really extends to Kingswoods, so I've got a couple of...
