    changing LS1 engine mounts VX

I'll pick up on this thread as it is on topic. I am trying to change my engine mounts in VYII with 5.7l gen III. Unbolting from the bottom... no problem... but I can not get the top nuts to budge! I rigged up extensions and a universal to get a deep socket in place so I can undo from above...

VY II SS Wagon - Manual Gearbox Rattle / Cats / Clutch ? Any thoughts?

This may help other so I will tell the story of the rattling SS with poor fuel economy. Step 1: changed to thicker oil. Some of the rattling from the engine left. This meant I could hear the engine was also pinging a bit. Step 2: Changed the fuel filter. Solved the pinging. This allowed me...

VY II SS Wagon - Manual Gearbox Rattle / Cats / Clutch ? Any thoughts?

Mine has started rattling too, only under load. It has progressively gotten worse. Coincidentally, I am at around 110,000kms as well and I just changed my O2 sensors but it was happening before that. I've checked under the car, no loose hangers on the exhaust everything feels tight...

    Decreased Fuel Economy

Thought I would update the thread for others scouting around for answers. I changed the O2 sensors, fuel economy went straight back down to 13.5l/100km - 14.5l/100km. It did start throwing up engine check errors and it started pinging though. I changed the fuel filter as suggested in...

    Decreased Fuel Economy

They aren't listed in the service manual or the Gregory's manual so I have never put much thought to them but I assume a workshop would pick it up via diagnostics/exhaust analysis and change as needed rather than at a set service. Thanks for the advice, given the car is at 100,000 they must be...

    Decreased Fuel Economy

New air filter at every service. Good advice on the O2 sensor connections. I did degrease the engine a few months back so may have caused some corrosion or pushed some dirt into the connectors. Vacuum hoses all looked good at last service as well. I'll try the tried and tested "wiggle method"...

    Decreased Fuel Economy

I have a VYII SS Ute from new. The fuel economy which has always been around the 14.5l/100 has increased for the last few months to 16.7-17.5l/100. I thought a service would help, no change. New tyres with correct tyre pressure, no change. Injector cleaner, no change. I am assuming that...

slight hesitation up to 3000rpm then smooths out...??

What's your driving style like? Dad's VR had this problem from new. Holden's advice, "let your son drive it once a week". It was used for short runs, little to no highway use and on regular unleaded which was blocking the fuel injectors. Once he got a bit heavier on the accelorator and his...

    Blown Gasket?

Going through a similar thing at the moment. Difference is I've been through 3 radiators in 2 years. No sign of oil in the coolant until recently but in hindsight, a slight leak in the head gasket has been pressurising the cooling system. Engine runs smooth, cool, nothing in the oil, compression...

    VY SS Interior Peeling

Hi there people, Just wondering if anyone else has had issues with the chrome part of their interior. The steering wheel accents, gear knob and even the airbag badge have started to bubble and will soon peel away... Only 4 years old... Is this a common problem? Manufacturing defect...

    Front Wheel Bearings

A friend had their front wheel bearing go while the car was still under warrantly, around 25,000kms. Sometimes they are just duds.

    Front Wheel Bearings

As far as I know, you need the whole assembly. No way around it.

    Pacemaker Extracotrs, how much???

I have been quoted around $1,000 for a set of pacemaker extracotrs, fully installed for my VYII SS ute. Does this sound about right? I was thinking of putting them in myself but time is a real issue at the moment. Let me know what you think of the price.

    How to install extracotrs???

Does it need to be welded? I was looking at the original manifolds and they bolt onto the catalytic converters. Thanks for the instructions, I think I might give it a go. It'll probably save me about $400 from what I can gather. Definately worth the 2 - 3 hours. Will I need a wheel...

    How to install extracotrs???

How easy or hard is it to install extractors in a VYII SS? I have a feeling it is a little more difficult than I think it is going to be. Has anyone done it? What tips do you have on offer?

    Headlights Auto Off

My Vy used to do a combination of things. Sometimes the radio would turn off but not the headlights, other times it would all stay on.

    Headlights Auto Off

defineately the door switch. Pull it out, clean up the contact point to the body of the car and all should be good.

VS Using Water - Boils When I Stop

Sounds like my VR. Doesn't leak anywhere, can go for a few days without an issue then one day I'll drive in the garage, get out of the car, come back and there is coolant on the floor. I changed the radiator cap, solved the problem for quite a while but has started doing it again.

vr ex - replacing manual radio aerial? help?

I also removed a few of the bolts holding the front quarter panel in place so i could pull it out a bit to get some more space. Be gentle if you do this, you don't want to bend your panel.

    servicing

You're out of warranty anyway... if you have half a clue on what needs to be done, buy a manual as suggested, hook up with someone who does know. You will be rewarded with a lifetime of free (consumeables only) services that you know are done correctly and using top quality parts and oil. With...

    Testing Coolant Sensor V6

Just my opinion, but I would change the sensor anyway. I tested one a few years ago in my old mans VR Acclaim and couldn't fault it. It tested within the given specs. I couldn't find the cause of the problems we were having anywhere else so I priced a sensor, only $8 at the time. I changed it...

    Fuel gauge issues

Don't get me started on this issue..... After 3 years I've given up on it. I bought my VYII SS Ute brand new. At the 1500km service I told the Holden Service Centre that the fuel gauge seems to linger on full for a long time then suddenly drop. I was told that this was the first they had...

    04 'S' fuel pump noise

Same with my ute but not with my wife's sedan. I took it to Holden, thay said it's not a fault but it is the fuel pump. Apparently there is no fix for it and it doesn't effect the performance of the part. Mine's almost out of warranty and is still does it occassionaly but haven't had an...

    Payload after Lowering VYII Ute

Was wondering if lowering my ute will effect the payload by much? I use it quite frequently to haul things around but I would really like to lower it to improve its appearance. The back end seems a bit high for my liking. Will lowering it reduce the amount of weight I can carry and if so...

12inch sub in long range fuel spot UTE

I didn't take any pics at the time and it is a pain to get it out again due to the tray liner. I did find some pics on the LS1 forum when I was researching and as I said, it looked pretty much exactly like the one in this thread, only the sub is mounts vertically, so it presses up against the...

    Alternator Help

It may be worth researching caravan and camping forums. Its common to have a 12 volt system to run your camping gear using a deep cycle battery. When you drive off to your next destination the battery charges off the car. I'm pretty sure they use some circuitry to ensure it doesn't drain too...

I used a similar set up in VY only the 12" sub is mounted vertically. Might be a bit more depth in VY. Works great and it keeps everything tidy.

do it yourself service warranty issues

I'm with you on this one. I hate paying someone to do things I am capable of doing. My warranty is almost up so I am servicing it myself now. I struggled with paying someone $160 to drain my oil and change the oil filter. They don't even change the air filter every service and some charge...

anyone had their wisdom teeth out???

I ended up with 2 black eyes from the swelling and bruising. 2 of mine came out in 4 or five pieces so I had some huge holes left behind from the dentist digging around. I still remember the taste of my first post wisdom teeth steak...mmmmm.. took me about a week and a half to start eating...

    Alternator Help

I would go with a higher output alternator and consider a second battery. Your battery won't last long like this, It won't be getting charged enough. The standard alternators aren't designed for that kind of draw. Standard alternators ouput 90-100 amps. With the ignition system, lights, air-con...

    installing an alternator

    VY Manual Reverse Lock Out

Just wanting to know if this is a common problem with others or a one off. I have a VYII SS Manual. On occassion, especially in cold and wet conditions, I am able to select reverse while on the move. Once I stop and go again, it will lock out reverse. This has happened a few times and my...

    Service Help

Brakes are a tricky one if you have never done it before. You run the risk of sucking air into your lines causing brake failure. Changing Clutch Fluid

Hi All, I serviced my VYII SS Ute on the weekend. I changed the brake fluid as specified in the manual but can't work out the how to change the clutch fluid. There is supposed to be a bleeder coming off the side of the gearbox/clutch area but I can't find it. I have followed the hydraulic...
