    69mm TB for reconditioned 3.8L

The memcal was the last upgrade and was tuned for the mods. Fuel has always been 98 octane. I'll ask my mate about the vacume line and gaskets. I'll try to get some recordings later. Are reco motors ever the same?? I know I've lost bottom end torque and that I'm curtain of.

    69mm TB for reconditioned 3.8L

transgo stage 2 shift-kit installed. transmission had a service a few months ago and the previous oil was very clean considering it was last serviced/opened when the kit was installed approx 2 to 3 years ago. Forgot to mention, I have a Dr-Bob memcal installed. I do have a stock chip which I...

    69mm TB for reconditioned 3.8L

Over a year and a half ago, my VT's original motor died and I decided to get a replacement crate motor installed. All the bolt-on mods were transfered to the new reco motor (extractors, 1.97:1 FIT rockers, K&N filter, SS CAI, 81deg thermo) so since I got the car back, I have lost alot of low end...

    rebuilt v6 = poor performance.

Took it down to a local mechanic because I thought my diff was going.. They reckon there was no probs there but I also asked them about the engine and why there is a flat-spot. They scanned the computer and found no errors, they did find a rather large slit in the air hose between the throttle...

    rebuilt v6 = poor performance.

sure is. The other day I pulled off the air intake hose and checked the throttle body. Got a rag and cleaned out all the crap that I could get to. Looked at the throttle cables and nothing seemed to be jammed or resistive. Gotta be a sensor or something..

    rebuilt v6 = poor performance.

actually it still runs pretty much like my first post.. Boggy down low, power up top. ahh well..

    rebuilt v6 = poor performance.

Yesterday I decided to disconnect the battery for a while and reboot the computer. I must say after driving last night and today, it was a noticable improvement however it still bogs/lags under 2500rpm and from 3000rpm up, it's still got a good kick up the backside. I'm aware by rebooting the...

    rebuilt v6 = poor performance.

any ideas what type of scan tool I should be looking at? There is a few on ebay about $100 and under. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/U585-VAG-CAN-OBDII-CODE-SCANNER-READER-MEMO-SCAN-OBD2_W0QQitemZ310203381030QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item48398ff526 It says GM from 1996...

thanks guys, I'll try get it checked out when I can. Appreciate the feedback. Tom

    rebuilt v6 = poor performance.

Thanks for that codeunknown. I suppose a mechanic would probably charge alot of coin for a computer/sensor check. Would disconnecting the battery for a few minutes have any effect on my issue, as in reset the computer and try again?

    rebuilt v6 = poor performance.

all new leads and plugs, new radiator, new hoses, new clamps, new engine mount among other stuff. The car does drive fine, I doubt if it's in this limp mode but it cirtantly doesn't perform as it used to which is why I'm a little P.O'ed. from Idle to about 2500rpm it seems to lag/struggle...

should all be new, just had a 1000km service at least 3 or so weeks ago.

    rebuilt v6 = poor performance.

Daggett, I'm merely describing the power output of an engine thats been on the road since christmas. I was told to vary the rev range during the first 1000 Km's without much bogging the engine down. After that, drive it like you would every other day and it will wear in. How long does a "run-in"...

    rebuilt v6 = poor performance.

Hey all Right before christmas, my Ecotec 3.8L ran into some trouble and needed to either be rebuilt or replaced. Getting my local repair shop to do the work, they offered a newly rebuilt crate motor for a cheaper price and swapped my engine over. My VT has 2.5inch exhaust, 1.91:1 FIT...

    MACE Cold Air Intake

This cirtantly sounds the goods from the feedback so I'll pick one up when I can :) I'm running the VT V6 with the SS CAI into the stock box with a K&N, got pacies and a 2.5 exhaust too. How will installing a port/polished 69mm throttlebody go with this setup including the mace CAI and Pod...

    Reseting ODO

what if my car had done 183,000 then I get a new crate motor installed? what happens to the ODO then? Should it be reset back to 0km's coz it's been fully rebuilt or what?

    Leaking Radiator

G'day Just recently, the temp sky rockets to very hot and sounding the alarm due to water being leaked out of the radiator. I couldn't tell that any of the hoses (visable ones) were loose, heater tap isn't leaking, water pump isn't leaking and water drips alot from directly under the radiator...

    Slipping Transmission

yeah I did take it back and they suggested to try out driving around in Power mode to see if it still slips about in that, which it did (rarely). Then switching it back into economy made it slip at times but only if I drive it harder than usual. Cold start and it slips for the first 30 odd...

    Slipping Transmission

G'day I had the transmission fluid changed during a service just recently and since i had the VT back, on a cold start, the tranny slips heaps untill about 30 or so seconds. Still slips a bit under economy mode while still warming up between 1-2-3 gears and when the engines at normal temp, it...

    140k service

wow, sounds like a pretty major service then. I generally get the repco center down the road to do all the servicing but I will definatly ask about some of those items you mentioned such as the transmission, diff fluids and get em to get some long lasting, performance plugs/leads. thanks for...

    140k service

Hey all I got the 140k service due and wondering whats is involved? Is it a major service or the orinary change oil, plugs and leads? On a second note, I found my cars milage has dropped by at least 20-50km's per tank, it feels sluggish and I gotta push on the throttle more for it to kick...

    Exhaust quiery

A mate of mine was telling me the other day that the exhaust pressure (or flow) descreases itself from the end of the extractors right down to the exhaust tip therefore there is an uneven balence of pressure along the pipes. He said by installing a Venturi that is half an inch smaller than...

Crap fuel economy. Tried everything... What else?

lowest I've ever gotten is 525km as stock. With mods (zorst, extractors, rockers, CAI + K&N and 81c thermo) I get between 550-600km and I'm a leadfoot at times. Maybe you can get your memcal adjusted or try premium fuel for a few tanks if all else had failed..
  25. T

    POD filter vs air filter?

My VT does that too with a K&N and SS CAI. Could that be related to a dirty throttle body?

    4L60E service

I got my transgo S2 and corvette servo waiting to get installed into my vt S1. By the sounds of the feedback here, it seems to have been a very well spent upgrade :D Only thing thats holding me back to install it is the price :S I'm also after the tranny to get serviced and one shop quoted...

    lightened flywheel?

ok thanks for the input :)
  28. T

    lightened flywheel?

Anyone know much about doing this to an ecotec? A mate at work thinks by lightening the flywheel, the engine then has less rotating mass = more response at the cost of smooth idle and/or running. ta

ECOTEC - Are High Lift Rockers worth it ........

By resetting the ECU (disconnect battery), will that help restore shift points after getting intake, exhaust and rockers done? The mech that did my rockers told me they're a little out due to the mods. cheers

ECOTEC - Are High Lift Rockers worth it ........

That youtube video with the VY showing off the FIT 1.97 rockers, was that performance after a dyno-tune?? I got the 1.97s, PM extractors, 2.5 catback and SS CAI but just doesn't perform similar to the vid. I haven't had it dyno-tuned yet so could it give me more potential power?

    3.7 or 3.9 diff gears??

so which is the next diff ratio from a stock VT diff? I do a fair bit of highway style driving aswell as the suberbs and dont want to have it rev too much higher over 2000 @ 100/110km/h. I'd still like to get over 550km/tank.. cheers

    Chip vs Trans

Just trying to decide which would be better getting before the other. I've got the stage 2 shift kit and corvette servo ready to be installed and will book it in for a tranny service at the same time or should I get the car custom chipped and dynoed for the mods (2.5 zorst, PM extractors, SS...

    transmission pump?

hmm thanks for the input guys and oztech007. It doesn't sound it would be worth the hassle so I'll just leave it with a shift kit and corvette servo :)

    Sports exhaust vs Economy

Just by installing the extractors and 2.5inch exhaust, I instantly gained 50km per tank of fuel. If you can spare the cash for extractors, they'll spare you prehaps one or two fuel trips a month. Hell, it's about 2.5 trips to work and back for me :)
  36. T

    transmission pump?

lol well it was something that was suggested. I'm sure it would help increase shift performance but I'm sure it wouldn't be a recommended upgrade to match? cheers

    fibreglass monaro bonnets

Fibre Glass doesn't crumple and bend like sheet metal does so incase of a head-on accident or anything involving the bonnet, you'll more likely have the bonnet snap and sheer someones (or your own) head off. Thats what I heard about fibre glass bonnets anyway..

VT V6 Gear changes (air con ON )

Im not an expert at car mechanics but prehaps the A/C pully might be binding really bad, causing the engine to work harder when the revs drop below a cirtain point. cheers

    transmission pump?

I want to get a stage 2 shift kit and corvette servo installed at the same time as getting my transmission serviced. A mate told me while getting all this done, is to upgrade some pump that sits behind a filter within the transmission assembly to give the transmission fluid a bit more pressure...

    Pulsating Rev needel

yeah it generally does happen while coasting down hills. I've thought it was a little problem at first but it seems completely normal for our model cars. Afterall, the higher you are above ground 0, the more thinner the air becomes (wether this has any form of effect) so as mentioned above...
