Things are going well. We got a deal with BFGoodrich to swap my 37" tyres for a set of 39" ultra soft compound, which has made a massive difference to how the vehicle performs. We're competing down in Albury this weekend for OzRock round 2. Here's the details for anyone in the area. If...

Nah engine is in the same place. The front shock hoops are bent a bit, so I'm going to cut them off and put something stronger on before the next event. Taking it out for some playing as-is though.

    Project: Commodore powered buggy

Well if you call jumping straight into the first event a good test day, then yeah ;) It's unreal to have built something from scratch like that then be out there driving it. I've modified a lot of cars before, but never built one from scratch

I have videos of the whole event, but I'm struggling to convert the .vob files to .avi

Yeah we did well for the first competition. We were happy with the overall performance of the vehicle as it seems to handle well and feels solid. We came 6th overall at the end of the event, which I'm happy with for a first event in a new vehicle with only 10 minutes drive time the morning we...

The buggy is now finished, and has run it's first competition. Here's some pics from it's first test run, the morning we were leaving for the competition.

Pulled the rear diff out from under the buggy last night, put it in a press and had to heat up the pinion bearing to get the pinion out. Lots of force required to get it out. Got the diff back in and everything hooked up again. Finished up around midnight again. All that's left to do now is set...

    Project: Commodore powered buggy

Worked on it again all day yesterday. Hot day to be working on a buggy! No pics, but it's pretty much finished. There's some small bits and pieces that need to be done before the weekend. The biggest problem we have now is that the last test drive we did yesterday afternoon caused a big...

Few more pics from Saturday. Rear tailshaft doesn't like it when you drop the suspension out from under teh buggy. Diffs look good with axles in them finally Gassing the shocks to get the right ride height. Still couldn't get enough pressure out of the reg set we were using, so I might...

We're getting really close to Put up or Shut up and there's still a lot to do on the buggy. Worked all Friday night till 1am putting some of the panels on and fitting the front brake calipers. Gauges look good at night Worked on it again all day Saturday trying to bleed the brake system...

Well another big weekend working on the buggy. Troy and I worked on it Friday night till midnight, then Saturday till midnight and last night till about 7.30. Spent Friday preparing the vehicle for the engine to be started. Finished off the last little bits of wiring, finished off any small...

Still working on it. We're going to miss the deadline we had of testing it this weekend, but there's still one more weekend to test it before Put up or Shut up. Adjusted the fuel system a little bit last night, also fitted the throttle linkage cable, plugged the heater hose holes in the water...

Had a pretty frustrating day working on the diffs. Turns out I might have some of the wrong parts, but not 100% sure yet. Once the pinion and centre are shimmed up and installed, there is still a lot of backlash in it. The pinion has been shimmed out to its maximum where there is no more thread...

    Project: Commodore powered buggy

Have done a bit more wiring through the week. Had to source some front inner axle seals so we could build the diff centres this weekend. Had some problems with the paint for the panels, the green turned out a bit lighter than I'd hoped for, but it still looks good. We got some more black and...

    Project: Commodore powered buggy

Did a bit more work on it tonight. The hydraulics are mostly setup now. Pirtek made up all the lines for me for the steering and also supplied the stuff for me to make up the fuel system. Pretty expensive stuff. Half the wiring is done. Still waiting on the motor wiring loom from the guy in...

    Project: Commodore powered buggy

Did a bit more work yesterday and today on it. Have run into a frustrating problem where the rear brake caliper mounts are not right and it looks like they'll have to be cut off and re-made. I'm sure we checked them as we were making them but it looks like something's gone wrong. Here's some...

Yeah it's a bit like that when you start building it, but it all comes together fairly quickly. In saying that, there are bits that take days to build because they're fiddly or you have to remake them because you change your mind 1/2 way through making that part.

Fitted the exhaust system last night, and did some more wiring. The exhaust system is HPC coated inside and out from the headers right through to the end. Have I mentioned I hate wiring?

Here's some more pics. Sorry if they're slow to load. The rear drive shaft that Dobbin built for me. More pics Got the exhaust system back from the HPC coaters. Have yet to fit it, but it looks pretty cool. The entire system including headers is coated inside and out. With...

I was waiting for someone to notice that :yeah: The manifold is flipped backwards for space reasons. There's less space in the front of the engine bay, so we flipped the manifold backwards and will run a 90 degree elbow and a small pod filter on it.

    Project: Commodore powered buggy

Here's a few more pics of it as we put the driveline in. I'm still waiting on the engine wiring loom to come from a guy in Victoria. In the mean time we've started some of the basic wiring for power. I'm hoping the hydraulics guy can come some time this week to take a look at...

    Project: Commodore powered buggy

Yeah I am. I'm back now and Troy and I have been stuck into doing more work on the buggy. Chassis is completely painted now. It's a 2 pack black with a gold pearl in it. Came out well considering where we sprayed it. Here's some pics of it getting some paint love. Interior console is...

Sorry there have been no updates, I've been down in Tumut fighting the fires there. Just got back this weekend, so started working on it again today. The frame is painted and we've started reassembling it all. I'll have a proper update with some pics tomorrow afternoon hopefully.

    Project: Commodore powered buggy

The buggy has been stripped down to the bare frame of the weekend, we made a few minor adjustments and all the final welds were finished off. We tested how myself and Ann hang in the frame when it's on its side and upside down. Ann has plenty of clearance all around her, my helmet gets fairly...

no not yet.. only recently got the flex plate for it, and still have to get the auto box rebuilt by someone and have the torque converter modified. The wiring loom is with a guy in VIC who's customising it for me as well.

I've been competing in a Jeep for a few years now, and we've been keeping an eye on the rock crawling sport as it grows in Australia. After our last major event this year, I sold my competition Jeep and started building this buggy up to compete in the new class. In terms of the design, it's...

    Project: Commodore powered buggy

Before the final welds go on, we decided to test the flex out to make sure nothing hit and we got the right amount of wheel travel. To do this I loaded it up onto a trailer and took it down to a workshop with a forklift. Looks good loaded on the trailer. Can't wait to see it loaded when it's...
