do v8's really drink that much?

Mate, it really depends on how you drive it. I've got a VY SV8 and general driving (ie not playing little boy racers haha) I average between 11.6 and 12.4 liters per 100km however drag off several cars at lights and test your 0-100km/hr times and it can quickly go upto figures like 18 or 19...

Sorry about the delay, I've been sick in bed the last couple of days. OK the internal (empty space) is 140mmx80mm. I hope that helps.

    $$ Fuel usage V6 vs V8 $$

Well I had a VR V6 Berlina and I was averaging 10.8L/100km. I've now got a 2004 VY SV8, driving fairly lightly and about 60% of motorway driving (according to the trip computer I'm averaging 58km/hr) I'm averaging 12.4L/100km doing roughly 230km/week so less than $10/week more in petrol to run...

    Changing spark plugs on GenIII????

Hi all, I've being changing plugs in my cars for years, So I'm not stupid, I know how to change them, My old car (VR Berlina V6) was tricky to get the ones at the back but wasn't too bad. But looking at the engine bay of my SV8 I can't see an easy way to change the plugs. Anyone know how it is...

    VY Stereo ISO Harness

Can you not wire it in to the standard carkit plug (which has audio mute, sound through the stereo speakers, power etc) which is located behind the dash on the passangers side??

    Steering Wheel controls are F@#$%D

Haha join the club, mine started doing the same thing a couple of weeks ago except mine was screwed all the time. I finally decided to call my local Holden dealer to get them to fix it since my car still has 14 months left on the warranty. Yip you guessed it, on the way home that day the buttons...

    VY steering wheel radio controls

Hi all, The last couple of weeks my stereo steering wheel remotes have being playing up, all the buttons work except sometimes the down volume works as the increase volume, the increase volume works as it should or as the mute. Sometimes the whole right hand side mimicks the left hand button...

    Personal Media Player installed

After some drilling of the "cage" I made to support the unit behind the surround I managed to keep the usb plug in the Iriver and have the other end of the download usb cable in the glovebox so when I want to add files I can just take my laptop to the car and plug in an extention usb cable. Well...

    Personal Media Player installed

Thanks for all the positive comments....It's always good to see other peoples views on things. The surround is a standard Holden part intended for factory optional Sat Nav. Not the cheapest bit of plastic I've ever found, NZ$82 for the surround. (I'm sure there's probably an after market one...

    Personal Media Player installed

Hi all, For those interested after a lot a mucking around (trust me to buy something that doesn't use a standard power plug, and the company doesn't make a car adapter for this model which has "an unique power connector" according to the company Iriver) :bang: I finally have the PMP...

    Where's PHREDDY?

Yeah as aperfectcircle said he's really busy at the moment. He emailed me last week because I'm going to buy the mod off him too and the jist of the email was that he hasn't forgotten about me but he's "bloody busy"

    Personal Media Player

Cheers ChrisJ. Based on that I've just ordered the bezel and should get it on Wens. Apparently it's not a part Holden commonly stocked here in NZ. Kind of holds me back a day or two because I guess I'll have to make a fibreglass (or wood) adapter to fit the PMC which I can't do until I get the...

    Personal Media Player

Hi everyone, I'm looking at adding a Personal Media Player to my VY SV8. Something like the Creative ZEN Portable Media Center or Iriver PMP140. Mainly for MP3 but it's also cool that they can play movies. Anyway I've searched threads on here and can't find much. I was looking through the VZ...

    SV8 vs SS

Brand new in NZ the RRP is NZ$63,100 for a VZ SS and NZ$53,400 for the VZ SV8. The best private sale price for a 2004 VZ SS I've found so far in NZ is NZ$44,600. Even the Nov 04 one at $46,000 was stock standard apart from tints with 32,000 km's on the clock. I don't see how there can be that...

    SV8 vs SS

Thanks for the replys guys, I'm still a couple weeks away from making the decision, really got to see what the bank manager has to say :-( I'm not sure if a VZ front kit would fit on a VY either but they had both side by side and was the same kit, maybe they modified the top of the kit to fit???

    SV8 vs SS

Hi all, It's come time for me to trade in the old trusty VR V6 and get a V8. I really want a VZ SS but here in NZ they are still quite expensive. I had a look at a 2004 VY S2 SV8 with a VZ SS bodykit on it today for NZ$33,000 and a 2004 (November) VZ SS for NZ$46,000 Apart from the obvious...

    vr series2 vr clunks

Yes Yes I have the same knocking problem, took it to one place who couldn't find anything wrong after spending 1.5hrs looking at it. I then took to another place, who after 2 hrs (and $150) decided to replace the swaybar bushes, Which made no difference. They told me that one of the shocks (left...

    Tune up oils

G'day just out of interest has anyone tried these tune up oils like "Motor-up"? if so are these all they are cracked up to be? I have thought about trying some but I would rather spend my money on actual inhancements than on things that don't really work.

    Flamin' Idiot

Yip as Wombat said, its natural selection, or if your into animal planet..its Survival of the fittist...if somebody is stupid enough to make something like jackass and then somebody is more screwed up to point where they try to copy programes like that they are obversely not someone you want...

    Mag Repairs?

Yeah that sort of minor damage can be fixed quite easily. I live in NZ so I couldn't tell you where to look in Vic. Its best to get them done professionally as the tires have to come off anyway. Basically they will remove the tire, spin up the mag on a lathe and machine up the face. They will...

    Amp Mounting

Yeah I had my sound system (poineer 5550MP, poineer kevlar 6.5" components (front) and kevlar 6x9" rear and Lightning Audio amp) professionally installed. The amp is mounted upside down in the boot under the parcel tray. I think it is the best place to mount the amp. I push it fairly hard...the...

    17inch Tyre Choice

ya could be right bextor84, however I used to work for a tyre fitment company and we used to fit cars with big bastard tyres (like in the region of 285, 315 and 345mm) and never had a problem but as soon as we put any tyre with a V pattern on, the cars would rail road regardless of width. eg...

    17inch Tyre Choice

I've got Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 235/45R17 on my Vr. They're really good in the wet, good steering response. However if your interested in doing wheel spins they're probably not very good as they grip really well in both wet and dry conditions plus they're fairly expensive (in NZ anyway)...

    Boot leak

I had the same problem when I got my 1994 VR Berlina. I pulled out all the carpet in the boot, including the walls. I lockedmyself in the boot with a flashlight and got someone to run a hose over the back 1/2 of the car. I found out where the leak was within seconds...a huge amount of water was...
