From my experience it is much easier to go straight out and get the SS wagon. I have done the Ecotec to LS1 swap in my wagon and it was a fairly decent size job. I only did it because I have had the car for so long and got a good deal on a complete wreck.

I would say something has definitely let go! It is coming from above the rocker cover or from below. Its a bit hard to tell but it looks like the rocker cover is covered in it as well.
