    taillights not working

Have you sorted your problem yet? I haven't been on for a while so didnt get to check. Have you checked with a test light to see if you have power to the tail-light circuit at the back of the car? also check with a test light that the power is going thru the #1 fuse, I have seen fuse holders...

    Vs Fuel Pump and LPG

I had a bit of a wire melting problem behind the dash (trailer lights earthed out) and did some funny things to all sorts of accesories. 1 thing it did was make the fuel pump stay on even when on gas (which it never used to). I tried pulling fuse too and it killed the gas, I then pulled the...

    taillights not working

Trans wasnt changing as it normally would and stuck in 3rd gear. Blown globe light was on, on the dash. Even got pulled over 2kms from destination on a 3hr trip :whistling Talked our way into getting escorted the rest of the way and got off with a warning. Had to drive home from the trip...

    taillights not working

Had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago with the Stato. Check fuse 1 and also the back of it as well. I had a thin wire overheat and melted thru a couple of other wires making them all live, making strange things happen to guage lights and trans as well. Might be what you are...

    Code 81 - 2 - 3 Shift Control Solenoid 'B' Fault - Auto Transmission Only

Just had a very similar problem with my stato. Hey before I go any further, hows the varitronic steering? has that stopped too? Check fuse 12 if thats stopped and it should fix the trans too. Failing that pull the trans pan and Ohm check the solenoids, specs are in the workshop manual...

    Auto trans fault

Thanks Dr Bob, just got in from playing with it. Wish I had read that before I started working on it this morning. Did a service, and flush, Tested the solenoids were within specs, then reset the computer. Still got the fault codes. Went back to the book and got to thinking what would happen...

    Auto trans fault

It's done about 270K, but had another trans fitted just before I bought it so don't know how many k's on it. Another thread somewhere mentiond VR's had a 12 pin plug and VS had 13 pin plug. I think it said a VS in a VR didn't change properly because of the extra pin, but cant be sure. I'm...

    Auto trans fault

Yep fluid levels are ok, and fluid is only just off red colour. Trans service was done 11 months ago, I guess I should do it again first and see what happens from there. Was just hoping someone had had the same problem and had the straight up answer, Thanks anyway guys

    Auto trans fault

got a problem with the Stato not changing gears properly. Checked the fault codes and got :- Code 66 3-2 shift control solenoid circuit fault Code 67 Torque Convertor Clutch on/off solenoid circuit Code 81 2-3 Shift solenoid "B" fault (what the hell is a "B" fault?) Any ideas where to...

radiator coolant low - fluid noise behind dash

You just nailed the problem right there. Its the condensed water from the airconditioner gathering in the box behind the centre console. You obviously have a blocked outlet from the box and thats why it drips on your carpet and also why you'll hear it sloshing when you turn corners etc. Check if...

    boot strut bracket broken!

I think that the brackets pulling away is a common fault. We had our Stato in at Holden getting a safety check and service thing done and that was one of the things they picked that needed fixing. I think I'll try and bolt mine before it breaks too as we have a gas tank in the way, so welding it...

Which gear to tow in? VR 6 auto.

Did a similar towing thing recently. Towed a 7x5 Tradesman trailer with water ski gear, esky, bags etc with the stato in econo mode. Was running it on the cruise control at 110. I started to notice the revs rise just slightly occasionly going up small rises in the road. Next I noticed white...

    Dual Fuel Problem

My guess would be dirty injectors (not enough running on petrol, too much running on gas). I think the only fix is injector service or replacement. I have the same thing on my EA, but the Stato just had the injectors replaced before I bought it about 8 months ago. You should run it on petrol...

    Racing Body Kit

Just a thought, try Kevin Bartlett (KB) at Street Machine Magazine, I'm sure theres an email addy somewhere for him. He's an ex racer from that period that may know where the moulds are from the Group C racing cars. Man they were full of muscles them VK's. Tim

Something funny going on with the key

Just make sure that when you use the old key that the pin actually touches the outer ring on the lock surround. I've had troubles with my key since I pulled it apart and supa-glued it back together. Got a new key programmed by Mr Minute on the weekend ($79.95, 20% discount coupon in the...

    Gas on a 5lt??????

I dont get to drive it much around town to be able to give you an accurate mileage, the missus uses it heaps more than I do. To the best I can remember tho, when we first got it about 6 months ago I think it was around 300-330k's around town, stop/start, climate control.

    LPG light

Yeah it wouldn't be too hard to wire up a light to be on when your running Gas if you wanted to. Just wire it thru a relay and pick up a power from the lpg/Petrol switch. place the globe or LED anywhere you want. It's not really needed though. Tim

    VN windscreen to VS ute

Check your insurance, you may be entitled to a free windscreen anyway, we just got one for the Stato. I think it cost about $350 to the insurance company, cost us nothing. Best kind :-) Tim

    Gas on a 5lt??????

It really depends what your intended purpose of the car is. I personally wouldn't have another car without Gas, It makes a V8 more economical than a Hyundai Excel, and I know that from personal experience. Yes you are right on the power loss, but what the hey! If you need the power, just turn...

    problem with power steering

Yep I had EXACTLY that problem a few months back. Do a search on Varitronic steering in this forum. Mine turned out to be a small bit of what looked like orange colored plastic jambed in the varitronic steering solenoid port. I bought another solenoid, removed the rack, swapped the solenoid and...

where to buy cheap lpg converter

You've got nothing to lose, I'd open up the convertor and see if its just a gasket leaking. Mine had a leak after I had a coolant pressure test done. The garage said I needed a new convertor to fix the problem, I said I'll get it done later. they plugged up the coolant lines to the convertor so...

    What Next?

Yep me too, hasn't done it on the Stato yet but on my VH,VK, HJ and EA it has. It's one of those things you live with running a dual fuel car. It's good running on gas and knowing you can drive it safely knowing you wont seize the motor thru coolant loss, the gas will shut you down before you...

    Cruise control go on holiday

I had a similar problem with the Stato when I bought it, that the cruise didn't work all the time. I found the brake pedal switch that turns the cruise off when you touch the brakes was set too high and wasn't allowing the cruise to turn on all the time. Try pulling the brake pedal toward you...

Will vt irs diff fit vr

The way to tell if its a single spinner or lsd :- if you turn the diff yoke a single spinner will turn both wheels in opposite directions, an Lsd will turn them both in the same direction.

    VK brock grill

My memory aint what it used to be on the VH, think I sold it about 15 years ago. I think I tried putting a VK grill in but it had something to do with the pins at the bottom? Maybe just the centre one was offset? Forgot if the width was right though. Shouldn't be too much of a drama though, bit...

    power loss through lpg

Hey Slim No offense, but do you know what you mean by saying "carby seals wet"? None taken Ok you got me on a technicality, I actually meant "carby GASKETS wet" I dont know if you have had a problem with a carby with dry gaskets before or not, but I have, and they leak petrol...

    power loss through lpg

Ya will get power loss on a carby car with LPG, mine does. Probably a 20% drop, just depends on whether you want the economy of LPG or the power of Petrol. You can change over to petrol on the run, just pump the accelerator a few times and away ya go. Going from Petrol back to gas you need to...

    What Next?

Check or try energizing all your solenoids manually to make sure they work. If they dont work they'll shut ya fuel down. Also most systems have some sort of shut off in case of an accident. If its not receiving a pulse from the alternator or coil it'll turn the solenoids off. Could be the...

    power steering weirdness

Welcome to the world of Vari-tronic steering Yep just been thru that with a '94 Stato V8. Cant get any help from anyone on this stuff. The parts counter said they sell a few of the solenoid valves, and thats what it turned out to be on ours. It's not a real hard job to do, just takes a while...

    Varitronic power steering problem

Sorted it out Turned out to be the solenoid valve ($182.40) on the rack. Not sure exactly what failed but when I finally got the rack out and got to pull the solenoid valve off, the valve had a couple of bits of what looked like plastic jambed inside it stopping the plunger move up/down. May...

    Lost All Power Steering

Hey just another thing, Has your car got the electronically adjustable steering (steering effort changes with speed)? Not sure what cars it was available in, I just know our Stato has it. I posted a message about the problem we were haveing a week or 2 ago but didn't get to many responses...

    R these legal in QLD?

I could be wrong, but they dont look like they have the reflective Red bit in them, which would then render them illegal under the ADR code. Check with your local DMV about ADR 13 and ADR 47. Tim

    Varitronic power steering problem

The power steering on the Stato is working perfectly for a while then all of a sudden its like the engine is turned off and the power steering is gone totally (a little daunting for the little misses going thru a round-a-bout :) ). Anyway I tried it in the shed and it was working ok, then I...

    fixing cruise control

Before you go pulling it apart any further, check the switch block on the brake pedal (also clutch if you have a manual) it may be stopping the cruise from turning on. On our Stato you had to put your foot behind the brake pedal and pull it back towards you and then the cruise worked. I adjusted...

    304 V8 On Gas?

I replied to your PM, but just in case anyone else is following this thread. Not quite sure what you mean by "plugged up the intake". On my setup they fitted a a short length of blue silicon hose (like the guys with the intercoolers use) then put the gas mixer on that, then a pod filter, the...
