Solution! It turned out to be the universal causing the noise (the drive shaft must have been rattling around) - I changed the CV and centre bearing as well, so the beast has lost it's old familiar rumble (or maybe grumble).....

Depends who's driving - and where If I'm driving to work (150 km round trip mostly on freeway) I can squeeze 600km+ out of a tank. If the missus is driving locally, 400km is about it.. That's in a V6 Eco
