Had a similar problem with my VR. Turned out to be the fuel pump.

Your fuel consumption is completely normal when towing. The tune is not designed for towing. When towing over a ton your fuel consumption can easily reach in excess of 30L per 100km. I know as I have a 6X4 box trailer with a solid ramp. The aerodynamics are terrible.

I disagree. Get a replacement engine. A VS ecotec engine is cheap as. That engine is full of sludge, has been cooked and has a deathly rattle. I do not think your block is very healthy.

I have also re-used head bolts on a VR and never had a problem. I suspect you did not align the intake gaskets correctly as this can cause this.

The Brand is Nadrad i think but will double check tomorrow. It is about 5 years old. Works well, has no leaks and was always used with pre-mixed coolant not water. The temperature guage never went above 1/3 of the way up so is clean on the inside.

VR series 2 and VS series one has the same 13 pin 5hfd trans.

If it is leaking that badly then it is most likely not a rack ploblem. I would be more inclined to check the hydrolic and return hose that are known to fail more commonly then the rack.
