    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Holy **** an update! This car has actually become my daily driver, at least for the short-term and is much overdue for a bit of TLC. First things first, this needs to come out. Little oil leak I need to find the source of. Bought another one of these. The current one is a bit noisy...

Under the rear doors where the factory jack sits. Was pretty far up but seemed to work ok.

It runs, still need to finish up some wiring and do a lot of tuning. Just running with the stock VY GTS tune at the moment which is no doubt lean as ####. Don't even have the wideband wired up yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOVuJcNGcJc

Haven't got the turbo anymore, but it was a Borg Warner S400. I don't know much about Holset stuff so couldn't really tell you if it'd suit or not. You might be able to find more info on LS1tech.com.

Nothing this forum would be excited about. Doing a Turbo 6L TH400 build in an 80's Volvo. Budget/sleeper style.

Hah, nar, not that keen on doing **** to this car. I've got another car that I'm spending money on to go fast these days. This will just be a tow pig if anything.

So, this happened today... Sold my diff. Got an offer I couldn't refuse and was looking for an excuse to change to a 3.46:1 ratio diff anyway.

    Maybe.... :D

    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Well, I finally decided to take a look at this car again. I've been a bit put-off it due to the horrid noise the lifters make. After discussing it with some friends I decided to pull the heads off after only 22k's to swap the Morel/PBM lifters for some Howards ones instead. Got this all pretty...

Nothing much yet, just gathering parts and building up the 6L.

    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Hardly used it to be honest. I drove 25km from my old house to my new house and parked it in the garage, where its been sitting since. I'm waiting on some PTFE fuel lines from the UK to fix a small fuel leak. Once I have those I'll neaten up the tune and actually use it a little bit.

    [LS1] Twin Turbo LS1 Build....before PC37

Sure would. I've got one too, brand new in the box but don't intend on using it. Want it?

    [LS1] Twin Turbo LS1 Build....before PC37

True! I've got a pair of those eBay GT45's and a knackered L98 here. Just need to swap a couple of pistons over and boost it up, cant wait to see how it goes!

    [LS1] Twin Turbo LS1 Build....before PC37

It'll be right, just pour meth into it.

I have these laying around... but they are intended for another project...

    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Yeah back to N/A for the moment. I sold the turbo kit to fund the engine rebuild, will turbo it again when I've found some more cash. Something a little bigger this time...

    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Ok, I've been slack and not done much on the car lately, so I thought I'd put up a couple of pictures to show that I'm not dead. Got the engine/gearbox in the car, clutch bled, pedals in, interior back together. Today I plugged all the remaining holes on the engine and swapped the 160#...

Thanks. Same pattern, just a spring to force 2-3 without needing to push the lever to the side. Makes it much faster. It is also a directly mounted shifter instead of a remote/linked style so there's a more positive engagement of gears. In short, it feels nicer and it helps you shift quicker.

LS2 Multi Layer Steel MLS Head Gaskets

Not all MLS gaskets are created equally. I've heard stories where some of the 'higher quality' Cometic gaskets don't seal on LS engines, and this would no doubt be due to the 'raw' finish on the block deck and heads. But, given the cost and complexity of machining these to suit, it might be not...

    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Not much to show today, weather hasn't been fantastic. I did install and adjust the Ripshifter. I set the stops prior to installing in the car, much easier this way. The 2nd hand T56 I bought was missing part of the slave, so I bought a new slave. Installed and ready to go in! Now I...

Back where it belongs! Just waiting on some pedals and a new slave cylinder for the clutch now.

    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Cheers guys :) OK, got some more minor progress to report. FINALLY found a source for the missing coolant gallery plugs, so now the engine is completely plugged and ready to go into the car. I'm going to mount the T-56 to it first and put it in together, so I'll install it once I purchase a GMM...

    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Pretty quiet in here... is anyone still following?
  26. SirNemesis

    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Ok, progress for today... I've ordered a barbell oil restrictor for the rear of the block and got some plugs coming which should suit the big holes on the rear of the block. I also managed to get 2 of 3 plugs from my old LS2 block, stripped the 3rd one attempting to remove it, so I'll order...

    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Not much progress tonight. I installed the cam and the windage tray... But then I noticed a few holes in this block. I've never worked with a brand new block before, so no doubt this is normal and I just need to get the bits. Q&A time... #1 What goes in here? Is this where the...
  28. SirNemesis

    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Not really. I don't know if the engine will even stay in the Statesman for long, but I will make use of it somewhere.
  29. SirNemesis

    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Progress! 0.0025" clearance on the mains and rods. Block zero-decked, all looking sweet :)
  30. SirNemesis

    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Ok, now I have some progress to talk about :) Got the block back from the machine shop, was a bit disappointed they hadn't touched the mains as I specified I wanted them line honed. The guy at the machine shop was confident that I wouldn't need to as they measured up good and suggested I do a...

    My 6L, cammed, manual WH2

Not much to report for the moment. All going well I should finally get the block back from the machine shop tomorrow. They are just waiting on cam bearings at the moment. I picked up some seals from Spencer Race Engines today and glued them into the rear block cover and the cam retaining plate...

    Done to death

So why did he create the thread in the first place? I expect this will go like most threads on JC. He has already bought the VCM without doing any research (not saying its bad) and is now trying to justify his purchase with an ass-about discussion thread.

    cam to stall and diff

I'd kinda like to stay single, but I just can't find room for a GT47-88 without cutting. Haven't seen PROLS1's setup.
  35. SirNemesis

    cam to stall and diff

I'll also be re-doing mine to run a pair of S366's (About GT42 size) up front. I expect it will have less lag than a poorly designed rear mount single S400 setup.
  36. SirNemesis

    cam to stall and diff

Not only is it a good size, but it's practically identical to the S400 he's using (which is way too big of a turbine for a rear mount setup).
  37. SirNemesis

    cam to stall and diff

So you know this and you still use the completely wrong size? Mind = blown.
  38. SirNemesis

    cam to stall and diff

    #### him, won't listen to advice, just let him get a **** result I reckon. Wrong cam, wrong turbo placement, wrong turbo for a rear-mount setup, mufflers/resonators pre-turbo. It's fail on multiple different levels and will result in an average (at best) result. I'm out.
  39. SirNemesis

    cam to stall and diff

See sig. Love my chromies. Also, I don't think I'm 'throwing stones', I'm just pointing out that I think you would be better off doing this differently, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Sometimes its great to be creative, sometimes its a waste of time, money and effort.
