    interior lights battery drain

Hi Guys, I have this odd problem, there appears to be something amiss with my interior lights circuit that causes the battery to drain over a couple of days. I've checked all the lights are off when the car is locked but it still drains. This happened a couple of years ago and my fix at...

    VS weird engine miss problem

was driving along happily the other day when this happened, under any kind of load the engine starts missing badly. if I drive only applying light even acceleration it doesn't miss a beat, but as soon as I give it a bit or go up a hill it misses like mad and of course loses all power. at...

    Vs starter pissing me off.

well, although this is going to make me look extremely stupid... turns out it was just a loose earth lead to the starter  I discovered this only after taking off the flexplate cover to look at the 'stuck' starter, realising that it wasn't stuck at all. jiggled the earth lead a bit, and...

    Vs starter pissing me off.

i reckon you two might be right. have done a little research and this makes the most sense. just hope I haven't screwed up the new starter too much from it binding up and me giving it 'love taps' :) cheers delcowizzid and hdtkid, will have a look this arvo and hopefully all is well.

    Vs starter pissing me off.

I don't remember there being a shim when I took off the original starter... but then it could have been stuck to it and I didn't notice. and unless it was somehow stuck to the block, there definately isn't a shim there now. any idea how thick they are?

    Vs starter pissing me off.

its a v6. i'll have to pull off the flexplate cover and stick my head under there while someone starts the car so i can have a good look at what is going on. fun times.

nothing relating to starter in error codes. only stupid ones because i'm running gas.

    Vs starter pissing me off.

did that when I changed the rear main seal, seemed fine to me, although covered in crustied up coolant crud, which I cleaned up. but it was happening before and after this.

    Vs starter pissing me off.

Having a starter problem that is really getting to me, can't for the life of me figure it out. Now this is a new starter motor. Go to start the car, it cranks over a little like normal, then a wrenching sound (like the car was about to kick over) and stops... now the starter is stuck. out...

    Level 3 cluster features

hold down the mode and set buttons(or is it the two arrow buttons?) while turning the key and it comes up in diagnostic mode. gives you a voltmeter and digital speedo amongst other things that are probably never helpful.

Central Locking / Remote Keyless Problems!

I'll second the stuffed actuator, they always screw up. There's a guide on removing the door trims https://forums.justcommodores.com.au/threads/removing-front-door-trim-vn-vs.3912 and the actuator is the black module looking thing attached to the locking mechanism, with wires attached...

    Help Needed

check your starter is not getting stuck, start it with the cover off and have a look (carefully) under there, the starter should not be engaged on the ring gear (flexplate), if it is it will be making one hell of a racket. I've had a similar problem in the past, where part of the plastic...

    VR hit a gutter

A mate of mine has done a similar thing, and his ended up being a bent cross member and radius rod. Cross member isn't overly hard to change, but a pain. My mate's was a VN so it was easier to take the whole motor out to fix it. But you can do it with the motor in, just supported by a crane or...

VS v6 coolant dripping from trans...

Well I finally got around to fixing this problem and a few others. Decided the best thing was to rip the motor out and fix everything that needed fixing. Turns out the leaking coolant was from the rear main seal plate, the gasket was shagged on both sides where the coolant channels are and...

Where to look for leaks on power steer?

In no particular order. Reservoir: could be cracked. Hoses from/to reservior (rubber ones): could be old, could have a hole, could be leaking at connection. Hose Clamps: could be shagged. Hoses from/to pump (metal ones): O-rings in connections could be shagged, hose could have developed a hole...

VS v6 coolant dripping from trans...

I just changed the inlet gasket a while ago, it was a prick of a job, pretty sure I did it right. I had alot of condensation coming out the exhaust had a search around the forums and thought that might be the cause. Not sure if it did much, but the old gasket looked rooted. On idle my car does...

VS v6 coolant dripping from trans...

Ok just double checked all hoses, thermo housing, heater pipe, and... no leaks... but its still trickling somewhere down the back and dripping off the front of the trans. Also, no coolant in the oil.

VS v6 coolant dripping from trans...

OK having sorted out my leaking radiator cap issue I've finally looked into a leak that has been bothering me for a while. Had a look under the car and noticed fluid leaking from the front of my trans. I thought it was oil, but I cleaned it up and ran the car to make it leak again and...

    VS Radiator leaking around cap

Ok verdict is.... CPC caps are the way to go. I've been driving a fair bit and it hasn't leaked yet. But now I have found other problems! will this ever end?!?! I thought a cap was a cap, didn't really matter what brand and I just asked for one at Sprint and got a Tridon. My local auto shop...

    VS Radiator leaking around cap

Just put on a CPC cap, and after a short hard drive no leaks around the cap. We'll see how it goes over the next few days.

    VS Radiator leaking around cap

Yeah the new cap is a Tridon brand. The old cap was a Tridon too, the funny thing is the old cap worked fine on the old radiator, old cap on new radiator = leaks... new cap on new radiator = leaks... I'll look into getting a CPC one then.

    VS Radiator leaking around cap

Yeah I have a 135 cap, which is the right one apparently. And yes I bled the system, drove around the block, pulled up and opened the bleed valve until it ran straight coolant (done this a couple of times). I've noticed that the cap doesn't go on overly tight, I can rock it back and forward...

    VS Radiator leaking around cap

No, its just thick, like coolant concentrate. And inlet manifold gasket was done not too long ago. I had a search around and some people have had this problem, but never got around to posting how/if they fixed it. I think immortality had the same problem a few years ago, i'll shoot him a pm.

    VS Radiator leaking around cap

In the last week I've changed my radiator, thermostat and hoses. After replacing the radiator, I noticed that there was a leak around the cap, so I got a new cap. Still leaks around the cap with the new cap. I've checked the overflow line is clear, and the overflow reservoir lines are the...

    Harmonic Balancer?

Having just taken a couple off this saturday, I can tell you that you will most probably need a pulley remover. The one on my mates car needed the pulley remover to get it off, wasn't going to budge by hand. One car at the wrecker the balancer came off by hand, and another needed the pulley...

    Coolant prob.

might wanna get some heater hose too, because the hoses from the tap to the heater are more than likely perished and will fall apart when you take them off, they snap instead of bend :)

THAT annoying rattling sound @ idle

the water pump makes a bad rattle when the bearings are fagged, which is also a common problem.

    Coolant prob.

I've been having this same problem for ages, top up coolant and it slowly disappears over a couple of days to a certain level then stays there, can't see any leaks. I've changed my intake manifold gasket (real fun job), disconnected the heater all together (bypassed the heater tap), and it still...

VS Problem sound diagnosis, rear creaking/knocking

Got an odd noise coming from the back of my VS. It sounds like a creaking / knocking coming from the back left, only when I turn right AND accelerate. sometimes does it a little when i gun it from a dead stop. Now I only just replaced my exhaust as it was rooted before. and since then I have...

    bonnet wont open

get someone to pull the lever while you push down on the bonnet. or the above ;) if doing the above, make sure you don't damage the air con condenser or air con line that runs along the front of the car. try not to touch it at all while trying to lever the pin, coz chances are its corroded and...

Vs v6 Power Steering Pump Rebuild

Yes, I got a little angry when doing the seals, the high pressure hose wouldn't come off so i ended up cutting it and then with the pump out of the car and in the vice i still couldn't remove the high pressure hose and ended up swinging a hammer wildly at the pump a few times in anger. hit the...

Vs v6 Power Steering Pump Rebuild

Yup, its the only thing keeping the shaft in. But it is a pain to get off, if you had the right tool it would be easy. I ended up using a drafting compass to open the ring and pry it out with a screwdriver. I would be very interested to know the proper way to remove it.
