Rough idle/missing after spark plug install.

This problem can be caused by spark leak. Did you use plenty of dielectric grease on the coils to ensure a good seal between the rubber boots and the spark plugs?

VZ SV6 Spark Plugs? better performance?

Just get the Bosch platinum plugs direct from Holden. They last the distance and are good value compared to the iridiums, plus they're the recommended plug for the engine.

VZ SV6 Spark Plugs? better performance?

Firstly, the Alloytec (GM HFV6) engines have coil ON plug ignition and therefore have NO leads as the coils sit right on top of each spark plug. The L76, L98, etc. V8 engines have coil NEAR plug ignition and therefore have leads connecting each coil to the appropriate plug. The Alloytec...

LPG only in a VZ ute?

No worries. The laws in Australia are stupid. In Europe (where our Liquid LPG Injection systems come from), you CAN have LPG or CNG circulating through the engine bay with the ignition off, so what they do is wire the system up to start pumping when the driver's door is opened. By the time...

LPG only in a VZ ute?

Yes, the petrol run-in time is 45-60sec after startup. There is no legal way to have a dedicated JTG setup in Australia. There's no advantage to be had by removing the petrol components because the JTG system uses the petrol ECU and all of its electrics to control the fuel metering anyway.

LPG only in a VZ ute?

We have a JTG system on a BA Falcon XR6 and other have the same system on XR6 Turbos and even F6s. These systems will make MORE power on LPG than what was possible with petrol and the consumption penalty is about 15%. It is the best, simplest and most trouble-free LPG system on the market...

How much did you pay for your last service?

Ended up booking the car in for a service at our LPG fitter. $120 for an oil service (Penrite HPR 10w60 oil, new oil filter, new air filter), 30min labour to put new plugs in + $38 for new manifold gasket, and $90 for the annual LPG service. Sounds reasonable to me.

    Vz run rough

It'll be a Sequential Gas Injection system for sure on a VZ. Mixer-based systems are not legal. I'd say that most likely that if the car is running 100% correctly on petrol, the installer has been slack and simply put the car through an "Auto Calibrate" and not finalised the calibration...

How much did you pay for your last service?

Ridiculous. I'm not paying high $300s for a simple oil service!

How much did you pay for your last service?

I remember paying $149 for our last service on the same vehicle. We paid $30 for synthetic oil too. This was at a Holden dealer BTW!

How much did you pay for your last service?

G'day all, Have a VZ SV6. I've been ringing around for quotes on a basic service for it as it has just ticked over 90,000km. The quotes that I received ranged from $259 to $476. I thought that these quotes were a little high considering what little work is done. I'm also looking to...

    MY Ride - VZ

If you're going to be using it heaps, keep the towbar. Trust me, people think twice about rear-ending you when you have a nasty looking towbar!

Factory LPG - more engine noise?

IIRC the normal Alloytec valve seats are already made of stellite so they are hardened and suitable for LPG.

Factory LPG - more engine noise?

Hasn't been a problem on any petrol engine since 1986 due to hardened valve seats installed for unleaded petrol. Valve Saver (i.e. Flash Lube) systems nevertheless are pretty cheap to purchase if desired but I haven't personally heard of a single case of premature valve seat recession on an...

Factory LPG - more engine noise?

WRONG! 98RON has a LONGER shelf life than 91RON.
  17. P

Factory LPG - more engine noise?

98RON is actually BENEFICIAL for LPG operation, since the LPG system depends on the petrol ECU to control things such as ignition advance angle (via knock sensor feedback). Using 98RON in your Alloytec will make the engine switch to its high-octane fuel ignition map and you will get more power...

Factory LPG - more engine noise?

Holden's recommends running petrol for 30min per week so that the petrol system stays in good shape (i.e. fuel pumps and injectors). It has nothing to do with lubrication or damage prevention. As for sounds, that was one of the first things that me and the previous owner of our car tried to...
  19. P

Factory LPG - more engine noise?

That's a first. Never heard that one before. Our VZ SV6 with aftermarket LPG sounds the same no matter what fuel you choose to run it on. The only difference should be the injector noise as some LPG systems have louder injectors than others.

    o2 sensor problem

The 175s were Euro 2. The 172s were Euro 3. The 190s with 340Nm of torque are Euro 2 and with 335Nm are Euro 3.

Bosch or NGK spark plugs for SS

Standard plugs for VZs and VEs are Bosch double platinums IIRC and they don't cost the earth either. They may cost three times more than normal copper plugs but they last a good four to five times longer so at the end of the day they're WORTH IT!
  22. P

Bosch or NGK spark plugs for SS

Bosch DOUBLE PLATINUM spark plugs are the best as they place the least amount of extra pressure on the rest of your ignition system as they wear out. They last just as long, if not LONGER than iridiums.

    Car stutters when accelerating

Backfires on LPG are caused by a weak ignition system 99% of the time. Change your plugs and leads and make sure you use appropriate spark plugs (i.e. one range colder than normal and 0.8mm gap) and good quality heavy duty leads.

    Running problems on LPG

The coils are directly on top of each spark plug. There are also other things that may need attention at 100,000km including the combustion knock sensors and oxygen sensors, all of which tend to go at around that time and all of which have a significant impact on how well the engine runs.
  25. P

    Running problems on LPG

Yes, coils are a consumable item, particularly if you're running LPG. They should last 150,000km-ish but there are no guarantees...

    Running problems on LPG

When one coil goes, it's wise to do all six of them. Once you do your plugs and/or coils, disconnect the battery for a bit to reset the ECU. Once you've done that, give the car a good run for 15min or so and you should have a pretty good base to work with for re-calibration of the system. We...

    Running problems on LPG

Could be due to any number of different reasons. How many km's on your car? Could be a dead coil or two (remember that ignition components that are just 'acceptable' for petrol will be unsuitable for gas) or a calibration issue.

    Liquid Injection on SS V8

With the tank hidden below the cargo area, I would say that you would barely be able to hear the pump in a wagon.

    power torque curve chart

Wow, the 3.6 pumps out almost as much torque at 1000rpm as the 3.0 pumps out at the torque peak!

    factory lpg setup

The injectors are a little noisy and they're installed over the top of the engine, so I would say that you would need to consult your gas installer in order to be able to replace spark plugs and coils. Other than that, with a simple tune (again, consult your gas installer), you should get some...

best spark plugs and leads to get

Dead spots in acceleration? Check your knock sensors and oxygen sensors. Maybe try an ECU reset (i.e. battery disconnect) also. Plugs should be changed at 100,000km intervals on petrol models and the best plugs to use are either double platinums or iridiums.

LPG economy figures for a VZ Wagon

There is no need to get the original petrol ECU tuned or modified in any way. The original ECU will advance ignition timing to suit LPG so therefore to take maximum advantage of the higher octane rating, you will need to run 98RON petrol after the conversion or else the ECU will actually retard...

    Liquid Injection on SS V8

They're not part of the gas system. In order to comply with Australian regulations, you HAVE to run dual fuel with any Liquid Injection system. There is currently no way around this and even Ford / Orbital are having problems getting a single-fuel Falcon LPI to work.

    Liquid Injection on SS V8

Without covers: With covers: Liquid injection systems are by far the neatest systems under the bonnet because there are no unsightly radiator hoses or vaporising regulators involved. Photos thanks to my friend, blownba.

    Liquid Injection on SS V8

The Orbital systems are selling for $4500-$5000 now which is only slightly less than the (superior) JTG system.
  37. P

    Liquid Injection on SS V8

We were lucky enough to score a pre-converted car with low mileage for a low price, but the original owner paid $5250 for the installation in WA. We paid $3400 (special introductory price) for the Orbital system less $1750 rebate = $1650 net.
  38. P

    Liquid Injection on SS V8

No worries! :) Just for reference, we have three LPG cars - one running gas injection and two running liquid injection. Plenty of experience here!
  39. P

    Liquid Injection on SS V8

No benefit whatsoever of switching to petrol at high engine speeds, and yes, with the JTG system, you will only use petrol when YOU want it to (aside from the run-in process after each start).
