i had the same problem with my VR. Took it to an auto elec, he put the scan tool on it and the crank angle sensor code came up. Replaced the crank angle sensor and found out that a non genuine one had been put on it recently...replaced it with a new genuine holden CAS and same problem still...

yes the power cables lead directly to the battery and there isnt any distribution blocks or anything like that used. the fuses are located merely inches from the battery and rated at 60A for both. and i dont think id rule out my battery as it is pretty ****ty and old...i cant even play music...

since then, nop. probably because im too chicken to turn up the volume again! haha

i've seen custom door pods made in place of the original grills and then the speaker would be showing as you said.....but im pretty sure you'd have to get someone to do it or have a go at it yourself. this is what you want, right? Gallery
