Ouch. If it were me i'd have a go at welding on a new stud from the top side if the bottom is inaccessible. If there is access to the bottom it shouldn't be hard to remove the old one and weld a new one in place.

it's a ploy to sell transmissions lol. Selling a $3k transmission every 150,000k is more profitable than servicing it a few times for $200. Also it gives the impression of lower servicing costs on a new car, because changing the trans fluid is usually not the cheapest servicing job.

There's no such thing as a series 2 VZ. All VZ Calais are the same. VY had some differences between S1 and S2, but all those parts are useless to the OP because he would have to change his headlights and bonnet for them to fit.

The plastic screw/nipple (lol) looking things are just self tapping. Just screw them straight into the carpet. They aren't very effective though... my mats come loose from the floor all the time - the nipple stays in place, the plastic ring just doesn't snap onto it very securely.

Keep an eye on your coolant levels, you've probably got a leak. Air gets into system and causes the erratic temperature readings. Radiator is usually the culprit.

Also the socket tends to be pretty dodgy on aftermarket headlights. One of mine doesn't work if you rotate it all the way, you need to back it off about 5 degrees and then it works. I made a little rubber gasket for that one to hold it in the 'sweet spot'
