Keep an eye on the piston not seizing. Repaired a VT a while ago left rear was partially seizing on .

In a VR, no probs whatsoever .

Get the cooling system pressure tested may give a good indication

Steel plug in alloy, couple sharp taps with a hammer loosens the plug. Single hex socket FTW. Stay well away from Eziouts , cause more drams than good in inexperienced hands Or as mentioned , weld on the plug but have earth clamp right beside where you weld

5 litres of coolant is usually enough mixed 50/50. Very common for the Driver side tank to split.

A pressure test of the cooling system would be my first check, if it holds on then a flush and go from there.

I have VY , can hear the motor work but no movement of antenna , it is stuck up. Is it an easy fix or new antenna reqd?

That's it, triy to get the nozzle poked under the edge of the seal or a small screwdriver so lube gets right in

Of course low on coolant will cause overheating..

All engines use a little oil, if the level doesn't drop it is being topped up with contaminants .Thinner oils theses days I find do use some. From my experience in the km you mention that bit of oil use is normal .

That tiny amount of engine oil won't hurt a thing. We used to run some Allison transmissions which are basically an overgrown T400 on 15/40 diesel engine oil after draining the dexron 3, as recommended by the manufacturer to cure the heat issue they had.

Use a single hex socket. Be very surprised if that wouldn't grip . Also give the plug a couple sharp taps with a hammer first , that helps a lot will almost be loose after that

No no no ..There is no vacuum to the switch does this. Check the back of the engine where hte vacuum line goes to inside car.Line will be off or broken.

I think he means the solenoid that controls the main pressure.

Mate,problem sounds like it's in the rear calipers. Recently did a VT same issue,L.H.R caliper would drag sometimes.Stripped calipers ,some strange marks on L.H.R piston.L.H caliper was a bit dirtier inside than R.H too.Rekitted calipers and new pistons .all good.Don't know if VR is the same but...

That is the one i think the retainer bolt is left hand thread.

No band adjustments on a VR.. And on the post above if there were shavings and chunks in the pan you are going to need a whole new gearbox real soon.

Yes check the vacuum hose on the intake manifold at the back of the engine.If it is slow may be cracked .. Comes out near heater hose and follow to engine.

Mate that is normal in neutral.They almost seem to smooth out in gear. I noticed exactly what you describe in a work vehicle before i bought my VXII but it does exactly the same..

That is if the bush is really chopped out you will get a knock/tapping.When they are soft they allow the diff pinion angle to go up and set up a vibration in the centre bearing.

Yep had that one myself. Commonly misdiagnosed as a bad rack.

Any updates???? I was in a friends VS today,similar thing. 100km/h and light load / acceleration at that speed,jolting/thumping sounds like from rear. Gearbox oil is full and looks good,not burnt.

Could be the centre bearing but another common prob is the upper control arm bushes on the diff.

The cables are only like $27 from holden.They get worn/tight on the bend before the t/b.

Series 2 VX has the extra rod on the lower suspension arm to stop the negative camber.Had my VXII for nearly 4 years no issues to report.Very happy.

You need to take the engine number with you to get a pump,2 different pumps in VS and they go by eng #.

It is in your handbook how to reset it.
