The previous owner of my vr v8 when he got it rebuilt over 3 years ago, he got the top and bottom end rebuilt and it cost him just under $7k. He did put a cam in though.

Man I want my red VR paintwork to look like that. God that looks hot. How much did that set you back $$$ wise? My paintwork is getting really faded on the boot/top and bonnet. Bit of rust to. I really like the look of the car. I like the chrome rims and the window surrounds.

Check the relays. They cause those sorts of issues.

My VR 5L the previous owner had the top and bottom totally rebuilt (well including a cam) cost him $7k. I doubt it would cost that much if you rang around though.

In the period since the motor rebuild top and bottom (208k) and where it is now (242k), my sump is leaking, it looks like it had been dented and someone welded a piece to make it look nice and new. So I replaced the sump plug and washer to a genuine one. Still leaks. Had the belts changed...

In my VR 5L, the shitty arsed original paint used for the car. Cheap and ages the car alot (Cant afford to get repainted).

Thanks for this. My VR Wiper motor was fine but the wipers (brackets) shat themselves so a mechanic quoted $300 to replace so I looked at this thread and did it myself. I replaced the wiper bracket and motor together (got from a wreckers for $75). Piece of cake to change and all works like new...

Well just before I bought my VR 5L the whole motor was rebuilt (top and bottom end) and a few extras were put in Cam etc and the previous owner spent just over $7000 on the motor so I would say if you dont want to spend that sort of money to get a reconditioned one.
