    Raising VX SS.

So if I change it for standard commodore suspension I should end up with a reasonable ride height? I might have to go and have a chat to the boys and girls at Fulcrum.

    Raising VX SS.

Ok this thread is a bit unusual because most people here are only interested in lowering their commodores. But my vx ss is the standard ride height and its just to damn low. I'm sick of it bottoming out on small humps and bumps. I can't take it to the roof top car park at my local shopping...

    boobs are bad mmkay?

Seriously? All women have boobs in one form or another. Some men do too. Anyone who is concerned about seeing boobs in public must lead a very dull life. Seriously, what is the problem? They are just a part of the body. Who cares. Females should have just as much right to be topless in public as...

Doesn't the SS have more features than the exec, better suspension etc?

99 vt passengers side footwell leaking water

Thats exactly what happens in my vx ss. It leaks in under the rear end of the drivers door, trickles under the seat and fills up the rear foot well. Bloody pain in the arse. Guess I'll have to find a new seal as well.

vb-vk any reason most convert to v6 instead of rb30

Hmmm... Thats not really fair - the OP did say he had spent some time and money getting his vk to brake and steer just as well as a new car. Besides, all the things you have mentioned are typical of most old cars with a few k's on them, and none of them are particularly difficult or expensive to...

vb-vk any reason most convert to v6 instead of rb30

Who cares? The point is you can make power with a v6, I'm not saying any more or less so than any other motor.

vb-vk any reason most convert to v6 instead of rb30

Please don't put an RB30 in your vk. A little bit of me dies inside every time I see an rb30 in a vb - vk commodore. Its just so wrong. At least a v6 comes from the general. Go an ecotec - nearly 150kw out of the box, you can get them for peanuts.

    Is it too hard....

Why would you put a coolant gauge in? There is already a temp gauge in the dash cluster. I'd just go volts and oil pressure. You may have to install a new oil pressure sender, I don't know if the factory one is a variable resistance one for measuring the pressure or just an on/off sort for...

VCNewb needs help with the law!

My understanding was that if you put a newer engine in an older car it had to meet the emissions requirements of the car it came from. Eg. LS1 from a vx into a vc you would have to meet the emissions requirements of the vx. If however you bought a brand new crate motor with no engine number -...

    Now the clutch is gone!

Just thought I'd give a little update on my clutch situation. I pulled the box on the weekend and got the clutch out. Turns out it wasn't the slave cylinder at all but half of the fingers in the cover had collapsed and were all over the place. Ordered a new clutch kit with new slave cylinder...

how much oil is in the M6 gen3 gearbox

How do you fill your gearbox? Will have to do mine soon. Is there some sort of small hand pump you can buy? There's no way in hell of getting the spout of a measuring jug/oil can etc in there. When I did the oil in the aussie 4 speed in my VC I managed to balance the oil container in the engine...

    VX LS1 SS tune

What VTLS1 is trying to say is - aluminium is a good heat conductor - in the same way a heat sink in an amp will conduct heat away from the hot components and disperse it into the air, an aluminium otr may conduct heat from the engine bay into the air flowing through it.

    VX LS1 SS tune

I am planning on a mafless tune - part of why I don't want to spend big $$ on the OTR. I think maybe a cheaper fibreglass one would be a good thing? I like the look of this one: OTR COLD AIR INTAKE HOLDEN HSV VT VX VU LS1 GEN 3 - eBay Other, Air Intake, Fuel Delivery, Car, Truck Parts, Cars...

    Now the clutch is gone!

I don't punish or flog the car much but I am planning for more power and maybe some heavy towing so I'm pretty keen on a better clutch. Now the clutch is gone!

I can't believe how problematic my vx ss is turning out to be. I had just turned a corner and was changing from 2nd to 3rd and suddenly the clutch wouldn't disengage. It kind of felt like something popped or broke and then there was nothing, the pedal went straight to the floor, there was no...

So was it a radiator with alloy tanks?
  23. jakbob

Noise that i thought was pulley noise can't be ??????

Like Pablo said, take the belt off and start the engine for a short period. This way you can be absolutely sure if it is a belt/pulley/belt driven accessory issue. If it is it could be the bearings in your water pump, alternator etc. I had the bearings in my alternator go once. Luckily I had a...

    Vx SS using coolant

Well I patched it up with some araldite. I don't think it'll last long but it can't do any harm. For under $400 I can get a brand new radiator with alloy tanks and I'll just fit it myself. Similar price to a genuine holden radiator without crappy plastic tanks. If I wanted the plastic tanks I'd...

    Vx SS using coolant

Ok so I found a crack in the rh tank on the radiator. Would I be better to get a whole new radiator or get a new tank fitted? I can a brand new radiator pretty damn cheap off eBay but I'm guessing these are the cheap Taiwanese imported ones. This one is looking pretty good with a 2 year...

    Vx SS using coolant

Its a manual thank Christ, one less thing to worry about. The engine only has just over 50000km on it so I'll be pretty cranky if its a water jacket or head gasket issue. How does one perform a pressure test? I suspect some specialist equipment may be involved?

    Vx SS using coolant

Hi having a bit of a drama with the LS1 in my vx mysteriously disappearing the coolant. The low coolant light came on last week as I was leaving work so I stopped and topped it up using water I had in the boot. The coolant tank was nearly empty. The coolant light went off but the next morning...

    VX SS custom exhaust

Thanks man. Tri Y's sound like the way to go because low down needs to be improved. Its really got nothing below 2500rpm. I really like the idea of the varex mufflers but if they sound terrible I guess I'm better off settling for somewhere in the middle - not too loud not too quiet. For what...

    VX SS custom exhaust

I've been reading around the forum about full exhausts for my Vx and I've decided its time I got one so I can look at getting a Mafless tune. I'm on tight budget so I figure I can get a half reasonable system cheaply if I buy the bits separately and then put it together. My thoughts so far...

anyone used 12v fan/heater dimisters as an upgrade?

Heater core FTW! Your engine is essentially a big heater that provides power to the wheels as a by product. They're generally only about 30% efficient. The other two thirds of the energy produced by burning fuel is wasted as heat, might as well use some of it. Doesn't really make sense to make...
  33. jakbob

anyone used 12v fan/heater dimisters as an upgrade?

Mine's 300w and if you hold it right up to the glass for while it'll defog the bit right in front of it. At 150w it probably won't do much. If you use a few you really have to look hard at how much current you're drawing.
  34. jakbob

anyone used 12v fan/heater dimisters as an upgrade?

You'll need a big alternator for it to be effective. I used a 300w 12v fan heater in my VC because the heater didn't work so well. I had to connect straight to the battery and at 300w thats 25A. It wasn't terribly effective so I think you'd need at least two of them to use as a demister. Thats...

    short shifter's

But is that just a shorter stick or an actual replacement shifter mechanism that reduces the throw between gears like a rip shifter? Having a shorter stick seems kind of pointless, I'd much rather have an actual short shifter.

Has anyone fitted a PAC to their vt/vx?

I just redid mine, I got all my buttons working with my Alpine head unit. I did have to make sure I programmed the skip/ seek buttons as track up/down and not as preset up/down or it skipped between folders rather than tracks. But its all good now.
  38. jakbob

Has anyone fitted a PAC to their vt/vx?

My bad. It is the black yellow wire. The red/yellow wire is next to the brown wire, and I guess thats what I had on my mind when I said that.

So nobody has ever gotten the steering wheel controls in their vt or vx to work with an aftermarket head unit?
