Anyone knows how to change Harmonic Balancer

Yeah front nut is a pain to get off. My starter motor wasn't strong enough to crack mine, quality rattle gun at full psi did was though. If you're gona use the starter remove the ECU fuse or similar to make sure the engine can't start.

    Vp knocking noise

Is the rubber on the balancer intact or all cracked? Did you give the tensioner pulley a spin when the belt was off?

Wow, didn't even know this type of thing happened.

Halp! I dropped the fuel tank but I can't find the hose that is inside the tank which supposed to connect to the assembly. Does this hose connect to anything or is it just a return hose that goes to the bottom of the tank?

    The Great Global Warming Swindle

Thanks for the links, both were good reads. I'm just not sure if I buy into the New Scientist article which suggests that human CO2 emissions are at 3.8% and that this is the straw that broke the camel's back because this is upsetting the earths delicate balance of natural emissions and natural...

Changed the thermostat and climate control is still cold?

Also make sure the radiator fan isn't coming on too early and not giving the car a chance to warm up.

Haha nice, no motor.. My brother's VN is lowered quite a bit so they probably jacked it. I used to change the oil on my VN without jacking it up before I lowered it.

    The Great Global Warming Swindle

Fixed. It would understandably annoy anyone to have to pay a tax on a good if they believe the good is not the cause of the problems the tax is trying to pay for. The last 20-30 years of data were presented. The last 5-10 years of data were not presented, but you will find that the UK's...

Ok thanks, still haven't done it yet. What are plugs? Not sure if I need them. Haha I need another clue I'm still not seeing it. :S

    The Great Global Warming Swindle

On the topic of forestry and what not, I'm studying structural engineering we're being highly encouraged to use timber as a building material instead of steel and concrete. Reason being while the timber is in the building it is "storing" carbon... until the building is destroyed and the timber...

    The Great Global Warming Swindle

I've seen "An Inconvenient Truth", I briefly commented on it in one of my above posts. I am still relatively undecided on the issue and do want to hear the science from both sides as it is a bit out of my field of expertise. It's unfortunate that usually scientists and other people like Al Gore...

    The Great Global Warming Swindle

Yeah I watched it, didn't quite know what to make of it. I just want to make it clear that it does not deny that global warming is happening, because it is, it just questions how much of a role man is playing in it. It made some really good points but I didn't know whether to trust their facts...

    The Great Global Warming Swindle

Haha ok guys, point taken. Feel free to close the thread if you like, I didn't realize it was a touchy subject around here. I've only just become interested in the topic and am finding it fascinating. :)

Wow, didn't even know this type of thing happened.

Lol I don't think they caught any of the petrol, there was a good half tank all over the road. I doubt the road will be the same until they reseal it, there's a huge petrol stain the width of the road. I would loved to have come home late and found them doing it.

Cheers vn6pwr. Haha yeah I have no idea how they managed it.

Wow, didn't even know this type of thing happened.

I'm completely serious. Almost couldn't believe it, it's not even a bad part of town and it would have almost been easier for them to take the whole car. So the sender unit is attached to the fuel pump? I don't know how it all works. They cut the whole wiring loom where it comes out of the boot...

Wow, didn't even know this type of thing happened.

My brother went out to the road today and found a huge pool of petrol under his car. I jacked it up and found that some kents had stolen the fuel pump last night. They did pretty well to do this undetected, in darkness, with half a tank of petrol billowing out (it's the internal pump). A passing...

    Speed Cameras.

etc etc I hardly imagine the road teeming with children at 9.20am (correct me if I'm wrong but most schools start at 9.00). Easy to leave the 40 signs on for a while though and help rack up a few more tickets on the camera. Who's looking for a 40 sign at 9.20 when all the oncoming cars are...

    lsd solid diff with abs

I think it would be as simple as just not plugging in the abs sensors. If you're not swapping the whole diff housing then just grab the center goodies.

    New Harmonic Balancer???

Lol yeah they are tight. I was using the starter motor and an old ratchet with a bit of pipe. Shattered the ratchet mechanism before it cracked the nut but I was pretty much expecting it to destroy it. Was hoping to crack the nut in the process though. A quality rattle gun is easy-mode for...

    cost of fixing/replacing diff?

I got worn out second hand LSD for $150 that was only spinning one wheel. Did a bit of research and shimmed it up myself for free. Tight as anything when I got it in the car.

    Engine Knocking at Idle..

Yeah I got mine fixed for the price of the balancer which was about $130NZ second hand. They're about $230NZ new over here but saw in some threads that you can get them new for $150 or less in Aus. I did the work myself so didn't pay labor. Very easy to do if you or a mate has a good rattle gun...

    Holden Volt

    Engine Knocking at Idle..

Sounds a bit like a problem I had recently with my harmonic balancer, not sure if you read that thread but here it is: http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/vn-vp-holden-commodore-1988-1993/92525-loud-rattle-noise-motor.html There's a sound file in there showing my stuffed HB so you can listen...

Shortened VN shocks into VR IRS

Can I get away with borrowing the shortened shocks from my live axle VN and sticking them in my IRS VR for a few weeks? The shocks that are in my VR at the moment aren't short enough to keep the king springs captive. :S

    IRS CV boots

Is it just a matter of undoing the 8mm(?) hex bolts, cutting the old boot away and removing a C clip and sliding the CV joint off the drive shaft?

There's probably no difference between left and right then but not 100% sure on that.

    IRS CV boots

Hey guys, One of my outer diff CV boots needs changing but I'm a bit unsure how to go about it. Anyone know an easy way? Cheers

    Front wheel sealed bearings question

I'm fairly sure that if you have ABS if you place it on the wheel studs on the ground and face the two close bolts towards you with the third bolt facing up, then the abs sensor plug is on the left for the LHS hub and on the right for the RHS hub.

    lowing help

IMO just judge the effect yourself when it's lowered. My VN is on ultra lows but only ended up with a few mill difference between each side. The 8" wide rims are under the guards but never rub over bumps or anything. Been going for years with the standard panhard rod.
