    Good deed for the day

Almost ran over a turtle. Pulled over picked him up and dropped him in the next creek I found.

Anyone that knows anything about diesels, glow plugs in particular

Hook them up through a relay with a timer through the ignition, when the key is on accessories the timer starts. Glows the plugs at full power for 10 seconds you start the engine and it keeps about 50% power for 30-40 seconds after. Just did this to my budget triton purchase.

    new head unit wont work

Check you have a good earth. The cd player in my VL recently stopped working. The factory earth wire must have broken at some point along it length. Ran a new one, soldered it into the radios loom. Works perfectly now. Make sure you have the right wires, a circuit tester is your...

    [SA] oil differences

Dont quote me but I think diesel oils have a high level of detergents to help with build up and and other additives to deal with the levels of soot diesels produce.

Quick we better start killing each other off faster..... Having an interest in astronomy Its mind boggling how many things had to happen in just the right way/order for life to exist.

    Injector removal

Might not be the only way, but I did it by removing the top half of the inlet manifold giving me access to the fuel rail. Removed the rail which gives to access to the injectors. Your leak is probably being caused by a broken O ring on the injector, a rebuild kit for all 6 costs about...

what did you do to your car today?

    Put it up for sale.
  17. Critical Jim

    What's your favorite motor?

I'll add one more of favourites. Only costs a trivial 1.17 billion dollars. Carries about 2400 tonnes of fuel which lasts about 15-17 minutes.

what did you do to your car today?

Put the finishing touch to the ute project. Looks a completely different vehicle compared to when I bought it. 55kw of raw naturally aspirated diesel power.
  19. Critical Jim

    What's your favorite motor?

Holden 186 for old, and probably the Nissan RB30 for newish.

    Oil pressure cluster problem!!

You'll need to add the oil pressure sensor for the gauge to display properly, the car you took the cluster from should have it. As for the fuel gauge, I have no idea it could be a problem with the sensor in the tank, the wiring from the sensor or a fault in the cluster itself.

    Oil pressure cluster problem!!

Did your car have the Berlina/Calais cluster to begin with or have you just upgraded from the SL/Executive version. If you just swapped it over to the higher spec version you'll need to add an oil pressure sensor so the gauge will display properly.

what did you do to your car today?

Started replacing the radio and speakers in the Triton. New head unit harness and speaker wire fitted up, just need to fit them all in and replace the dash trim. Working through the list slowly.

what did you do to your car today?

Ground f&%king zero. Damm heater core's. They must build the vehicle around the bloody things.

How much is a VL REALLY worth?

Redbook would be useless for a VL Commodore. VL's vary so much in condition and appearance, original, modified etc. Mine will be up for sale soon, and no way in hell I'm going to follow their recommendations .

[SA] Advance headers vs Pacemaker extractors

^^^^^^^ Beat me to it. I bought Lukey extractors for the VL for that very reason. I get a noticeable effect from about 1600rpm to 2800rpm where I spend 90% of my time. Pacemaker are probably a little overkill if its a standard engine, they have a nice note and they look quite nice...

    Know About Fuel Injectors??

Recently did this on a friends VL, he bought an injector recondition kit from Nissan around $70-$80, the O rings in the suspect injectors were broken. He stripped the injectors replaced the rebuild kit parts and put them back on, he is also 100% automotive repair illiterate, I just dealt with...

what did you do to your car today?

Started work on the new project. Budget model Mitsubishi Triton. Picked it up cheap from work Made some new light holders and fitted up some LED's and a worklight as a reversing light. Hosed down the engine with almost a litre of degreaser and then hit it with the pressure cleaner...

Do you like the look of ceptrors? POLL

I have them on my VL because I didn't want to get alloy wheels for it and they look better than standard VL wheel trim. Probably wouldn't put them on a newer commodore.

    Holden Volt

One can dream:yeah: A system like this would get rid of the lack of range, wouldn't have to fill up for years. I'm not sold on the idea of battery powered cars yet, battery technology still isn't advanced enough and i would hate to see the carbon footprint of the manufacture of a Hybrid...

Fuel Consumption Commodore Executive VZ Auto

The cost of fuel isnt the only cost of running a car. You have to take all the other costs into consideration. Servicing and repairs, cost of repair parts if needed, tyres, insurance. My old VZ Acclaim used to return about 10-11L per 100klm that was semi country driving. I dont know much...

    Greetings from Critical Jim.

Indeed, I'll give it a good clean to begin with, pull everything off that i can get off clean it up give it a service. I'll put a rebuild kit through the calipers. Not sure what the diff is actually, it has a tag with 3.45 as the ratio so I think its a 25 spline non LSD of a Calais.

    Greetings from Critical Jim.

Here's the latest purchase. Complete disc brake rear end off a Calais. Need's a good clean up/service, maybe a paint.

    Greetings from Critical Jim.

Its back.. New radiator and a good clean out. Replaced the diff centre, only a standard one, freebie. Still a little to be done. What needs doing.... Sort out some electrical gremlins, not my strong suit. Replace brake booster/master. What I would like to do...

    Greetings from Critical Jim.

Calais front is fitted up, needs to be adjusted a little. Once my diff issue is sorted I'll book it in for a new radiator as I discoverd mine is nothing but rust. Anybody have any thoughts/info on the aftermarket alloy radiators???
