    6L50 not engaging at idle

Trans fluid is fine, had two separate transmission techs look at it. One couldn't find anything wrong, the other replaced clutch packs etc. and said it was fixed, but it's not. Both times fluids were replaced.

    6L50 not engaging at idle

Hi All, I have a 2010 VE Commodore V6 with the 6L50 transmission. Recently it's been having trouble going into 1st after idling. Shifting from 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 etc. is fine, and even downshifting to 1st is fine (as long as the car doesn't come to a stop). If the car stops and idles, and then...

Ended up finding one of these.. Dayco Booster Vacuum Hose DMH3139 Needed to be cut short apparently, but works a treat.

    Shift lock

My first autos were a BMW and Mitsubishi, and pretty sure both of those had this feature. Since I've always put my foot on the brake before changing out of park, I'd never had to *test* this feature, so just assumed it was there. Thought it was pretty handy to stop accidentally moving out of park.

    Shift lock

Thanks for that.. much appreciated.. I'm assuming that there's support for it in the system (see attached picture), but not actually implemented.. Edit: Looks like it's just while the engine is running? Haven't had to test it so didn't know that was a stipulation

    Shift lock

Hi All, I was teaching my son the basics of driving a car, and went to show him how you can't change the auto transmission from park to drive without pressing the brake pedal in. He tried it, and low and behold, it did it without the brake pedal being pressed. I was sure that this shouldn't...

    nut woes!

Hi all, I have to fit my air-con and power steering pump back onto my VS 304, but I'm having difficulty sourcing the 3 nuts that are used to hold the brackets onto the threads that come out of the front of the cylinder head (on the LHS). Anyone know the specs for these?

    VS 304 - fan bolts

Hi all, I've recently started to reinstall a long running engine repair, which has been out of the car for around 8-9 years. Needless to say, a lot of the original bolts are now missing.. I'm after the specs of the bolts that hold the fan onto the water pump (elec fans maybe later, just want...

    Bellhousing bolt sizes

hi, I've tried to do searches for this, but not coming up with all the info I think I need. I'm after replacement bolts to bolt the bellhousing to the engine block. I've read that it's 3/8" 16 UNC, but not sure on what length is required? Does anyone have any specs? I've asked the local...

    Newbie - Removing Valve Springs

Thanks for the tip about the seals.. I would've just put them back in the spot where they're supposed to go (found that the gasket set I purchased already has a set of seals). Yes that's the problem I was having with the original valve compressor I had.. the collets were bound to the retainer...

    Newbie - Removing Valve Springs

Ok. Thanks for your help above. I've been able to get a new valve compressor and have removed 3 valves so far... but.. When taking the original valves out, there's been a black ring just below the retaining clips at the top. If you look at this picture...

    Newbie - Removing Valve Springs

So one of these won't work? Valve Spring Compressor | eBay There's no way of removing the valve springs without removing the head? (have seen videos of people doing it with compressed air into the spark plug hole to keep the valves from falling). EDIT: Ugh, nope.. doesn't look like that will...

    Newbie - Removing Valve Springs

Hi All, Haven't done this before, so bear with me. I'm trying to remove the valve springs from a Holden 304 (out of a VS Commodore). I'm compressing the spring using a valve spring removal tool, but it seems that the valve wants to move with the spring, and doesn't give me any clearance...

    Installing new camshaft in 304

Hi All, I'm going to install a new camshaft in my 304. Never done this before, so starting off fresh. Looks like I'll need a crankshaft tuning socket to screw the camshaft degree wheel onto. Anyone know of where to get one?

    304 - Camshaft replacement

Hi All, I've got my engine out to redo the gaskets, and want to look into putting a new camshaft in (nothing spectacular, just something slightly better, like the Crow Cams 4001). I've seen the camshaft and memcal kits that are available, but have read that you're better off putting a...

    VS Statesman Climate Control issue

It does both actually! It used to suddenly change position of the vents and a good swift kick to the centre console seemed to fix it (well... used to... now it doesn't)... And yes it also drops to the floor on accelerating uphill... Should be easy enough to check the hoses in the engine...

    VS Statesman Climate Control issue

I know this has been a constant nightmare for most people on here.. but got a couple of questions I can't seem to find the answer to... My Statesman has always had (since I've owned it since around 2008) the issue where when you accelerate hard, the air conditioning vents change, and then go...

Camshaft Upgrade and Tune or Cam and Memcal kit?

Looking at installing a new camshaft in my 5.0 EFI (VS Statesman). I've read that the cam and memcal packages aren't setup great, and that a camshaft and a tune is better suited for each individual car. Couple of questions... How much does a recalibration of the ECM cost usually? Is it...

    VS to VP?

Hi All, Very much a novice when it comes to this, but I have a VS V8 (Auto) Statesman which the engine is good in, but the body is very much gone (no damage, just had better days). I would like to transfer the engine/transmission, (diff as well?) to another car (more of a pet project...

Starting problem (VS 5.0 Gear selector issue)

Hi all, I've been having trouble with starting my VS Statesman for quite some time, although with a bit of wiggling of the gear selector from P to N and back again a few times, the car manages to start fine. Now it won't start no matter how much you wiggle it. There *was* a forum post...

    VS Climate Control problem

I'm sure there is a writeup about this problem, but for the life of me I can't seem to find it at the moment. Got a problem with my VS Climate Control. The direction of the air will either be on the windscreen, or on your feet, but won't change to blow on your face. I read somewhere that...

Air-con blowing hot after a while

Just an update to what happens... Was sitting in a car park waiting for my wife to come out of a store, and the A/C started blowing warm, which it tends to do on hot days after the car has been idle (running) for a while... She got back shortly after so I drove off... and the A/C started...

Air-con blowing hot after a while

Hey, just wondering if these symptoms spark an idea from anyone... During Winter, cooler months, the air-con will work perfectly... warms up and cools down without a problem. During warmer months, same thing.. works fine... But take today for example...took the car out a few times (30...

    Need help asap!!car wont start!

I had a similar problem with my V8 Statesman... ended up being the fuel pump fuse (duh!) Also doesn't start sometimes due to a dicky gear selector solenoid.. doesn't think it's in gear I guess.. a few quick changes on the gear selector and it fires up.

    dodgy cluster

The gauges on my VS Statesman are for the most part, reliable... But there will be days when I look down and either the tacho or odometer are showing 0... even though I'm driving...or sometimes they'll show the correct speed, but then seem to lose power and drop to 0... A couple of swift...
