What causes the V6 to have little power?

If you all think I'm full of ****, how many S1 VN's have people in this thread driven and can tell me that they don't drive like a normal commodore? Probably nobody by the looks of things. Rather would be scared off at the thought that a buick V6 could beat your alloytec/ecotec. To some...

What causes the V6 to have little power?

Ok fine. You win. Keep your lame forum with all your flamers I'm not coming back here. If people don't want to talk about cars without throwing bullshit around, so be it. I'm going to find another car forum where cars are the topic and not anything else. I really wonder how many young twirps...

What causes the V6 to have little power?

Finally somebody driven a s1 vn and knows what I'm talking about. The biggest question is why? Why did they fly?

Light to light. Long time ago.

What causes the V6 to have little power?

Nah she used to race down princes hwy years ago with these many VL turbos and they would ask her what she has under the hood. Her reply would be "an engine".

What causes the V6 to have little power?

No, seriously. Anyone from Vic heard of a car 7-8 years ago called 'CrzeVN'? Or crazy for short? The mechanics couldn't find out why the motor had so much power. One of the very first VN's off the line and the mechanics just thought it must have been built on a Wednesday. It didn't have a cop...

What causes the V6 to have little power?

The mechanics never could find out why the vn was so powerful. Call me a liar then. I think I've found out how many sour grapes are here.

What causes the V6 to have little power?

Changed the transmission 2 months ago on the vp. It kicks a lot nicer but no power increase so I can rule the trans out. Done the removing of the bell mouth. Made it just run rough. @Brett I have heard the same thing about motors being built on Monday's and Friday's. @soop, that couldn't...

What causes the V6 to have little power?

Ok. I've got a problem. Here are 3 cars. A vn, vp and vr. All stock motors. All done around same mileage, 300K. VN motor goes like a bat out of hell, the VR motor is nice and quick most of the time. Then comes a VP. Now this VP basically has the same motor as the other two. You put your foot...

    power steering question!?!

That's a good price. Reco racks are 200 bucks plus so fitted for 200 is pretty cheap. If he does it properly. I had a lube mobile guy come around recently and he was a 20 year old that didn't have the right tools. I wonder who these mob are hiring, but I told him to go. On his green P plates.

    power steering question!?!

Replacing the boot won't do anything, you'll just fill it up with fluid and it will be swishing around inside and leak anyway because it won't be an airtight seal. I did a friends VN rack the other day. Picked up a rack off ebay for 20 bucks and it's a good one. Real steal. A reco rack fitted by...

Need a bit of help to identify these rims

Hey I got given a set of 5 14 inch steel stockies which have 215/65 rubber on them. They are silver and stamped GM on each wheel. I tried to fit one of them to my VR the other day and it scrubbed with the brake caliper I think. The studs lined up fine but when I turned the wheel, it was...

Something stronger than Quicksteel resin epoxy

Anyone used Quicksteel before? I used it on the front of my timing cover to fix a water leak and it worked a treat but now I snapped a bolt off more than half way in the timing cover and I can't screw another one in. I have tried putting a stud in and holding it with quicksteel but the stud...

    leak from exhaust manifold

I have replaced about 6 motors ranging from the V6 to the V8's and never used that loctite on the bolts. I use anti-seize on those bolts or any exhaust bolts and do the bolts up to around the specified torque. I don't know why people are having all these bolts come loose. Looks like the...

    [VR-VS] VS strut removal

Maxxiz, the sway bar link is shown in the third photo down. In the picture to the right of the photo it's the one with the red bushes (One of each side). Your link bushes might be black, red, blue or yellow. Depends on the brand. The links connect to the sway bar. Both links need to be taken off...

    Noise from motor

You then need to use a 3 jaw puller to pull the balancer off the crank and behind there on the left hand side of the motor will be the crank angle sensor held by 2 screws. Unplug it and take the screws off to remove it. Put the new one in and new balancer. I recommend a rattle gun to do the...

    Front windshield

I got mine done last week. National Windscreens came out and replaced mine in less than 10 minutes. All it cost was $160. Couldn't complain about that! Don't pay more than around that price.

You need to change the transmission and diff to either a turbo vl or 10 bolt salisbury. Something stronger. Rear disc brakes would be advised too as well as a brake booster upgrade.

    sMoKy

Oh, and valve stem seals commonly go after many years on all cars. My brothers Commodore did the same thing. Started up, blue smoke, drove off, poured out blue smoke then after 1km, fine.

    sMoKy

So it smokes a bit in the morning and fine the rest of the day? Sounds to me like your rings are probably ok but just your valve stem seals are shot. That's an easy fix. All the mechanic needs to do is hold the valves in each cylinder with air and take the collets, springs and dampers off and...

on ebay not a bad project

It's not HDT. Just a commodore with a half built motor with no wiring done. Nothing special. Looks like a ex Calais. If it was HDT, it would be noted there.

    hard starting with blue smoke

The OP said it puffed blue smoke. Burning a lot of petrol won't do this. Oil will.
  31. C

    hard starting with blue smoke

What would be the point in getting injectors cleaned and checked? Spend 200 bucks or more for nothing. Injectors have nothing to do with the OP's problem and besides he says it's fine once started.
  32. C

    hard starting with blue smoke

Battery almost dead. The blue smoke could be because of worn valve stem seals.

Put in park or neutral and the engine idle drops

Gday, lately my VR V6 has this engine idle problem. The car drives fine, idles fine but when I put it in park or neutral from being in drive or reverse, the engine idle drops to 300-400rpm and slowly goes back to normal after about 3 seconds. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Brake fluid level question please

It's normal for the reservoir to go down slowly in level after some time. This is due to the brake pads wearing down and getting thinner. If it's kept at around 50% full it should be ok. Once the pistons in the calipers are pushed back when installing new pads, the reservoir will rise in level...

    Hydraulic Lifter Rattle

Don't bother about the lifters. It's probably your lifters making your rockers rattle and that's where the noise is coming from. I have had cars have noisy lifters for years. If you change your lifters, then it's ideal to change your camshaft at the same time or else don't bother. As the weather...
