    VT SS LS1 * H/C rebuild in progress *

Haven't had alot of time on this lately but should be able to have it finished soon, Got the adjustable timing set installed today and was wondering if anyone could explain why we retard or advance the timing? And will doing so change the cam specs etc etc? or just leave it at 0?

    LS1 Cam (street)

Thats pretty much what youd need to change when doing ur cam. Most of them parts help support the vavletrain but dont really offer much extra profermance, besides the cam, otr, tune etc etc. Power will depend on the tuner and how u want it tuned but should see around 250rwkw?

    LS1 Cam (street)

Sorry must of mistyped the second cam, as munz said its 223/231 duration. $400ish if u buy from the US + postage. Shouldn't matter the type of cam they are all same price. If ur interested I'll pm u a website that ship to aus. They have everything youll need so you can get a price for everything.

    LS1 Cam (street)

As cava posted earlier, The comp LSr range are pretty good, 219/227 .607 .614 or 223/241 .610 .617, thats what id be buying. They have proven good numbers for being only a small'ish cam.

    LS1 Cam (street)

You could also use a thinner head gasket to bump up compression, I think standard is 0.052(?). I brought a .040 thin gasket aswell as getting it shaved for better quench, although standard will be cheaper and work just as well I believe.

    LS1 Cam (street)

only problem it could cause is piston to vavle clearance issues if you shave it too far. You could always check PTV with the new cam before sending the heads off to get shaved so u know how much room u got

    Help With Cam Choice

I havent had any experience with that 232 234 cam, although it would be on the larger end of the scale. Its hard to reccomend a 'better' one without knowing what your looking for. Generally bigger cam 230+ duration are most suited to cars that see high rpm often, whereas a 220-230 duration cam...

    Help With Cam Choice

There's alot to think about when upgrading ur cam beside how 'lumpy' its guna sound, most tuners can tune in a lumpier idle. The bigger the duration the higher the in the rpm your power kicks in, big duration has alot of top end while lacking bottom end, other way around for smaller duration...

    vx ss help urgent

To be honest I would try just charging the battery or getting a new one, unless the one you have was recently purchased. New cam probably ment new tune with all that extra power/spark could of just drained ur battey and caused the problems

    My VX Clubby rebuild

Love to clubby mate, good to see you bring it back even better after that big crash '234/242 638 622lift 112 lsa' is quite a big cam mate, should make great power with them ported l98 heads. Keep them updates coming.

    VT SS LS1 * H/C rebuild in progress *

No E85 just yet, plenty of time for that in the future for now I'll just stick to the plan considering the budget is already blown, i originally pulled the motor for just a freshen up... Managed to get the new rocker arm trunion and bearings fitted today. Now waiting for the degree kit to get...

    VT SS LS1 * H/C rebuild in progress *

They are 241 heads and have a 70cc chamber after the cnc work done to the bowl. 11:1 would take abit of shaving and I wouldnt mind keeping it around 10:3-10:4'ish incase I wanna turbo it later on.

    VT SS LS1 * H/C rebuild in progress *

Some pics of the heads and how the engine stands at the moment. Anyone know what would be a good cr for 224/224 cam on 98 fuel? I was thinking of around 10.3:1?? Its about 9.8:1 now and I will use a 0.040 thick gasket and shave the heads soon, dont want to shave to much off the heads.

Kingys Calais back to sleeper spec

I think the money would be much bettet spent on the engine. Same money as a set of rims would get u some ported bare heads, with ur already upgraded vavletrain you'd just have to swap it all over ??

    VT SS LS1 * H/C rebuild in progress *

Well after many years of not doing much with this car its time for some work. Starting with a full rebuild, cnc ported heads and a nice cam. Already pulled the motor out and had it machined, most parts are ordered, heads have been flowed. All that's left is to put it all back together and...

    Cam driveability

Not sure if you've got a quote on freight yet but I was going to order a similar kit from them but they wanted 400$ freight, even after I emailed them they wouldn't try and get it cheaper for me. I had more luck with speedinc, I ordered cam, double spring kit and cometic head gaskets for 900$...

    Cam driveability

^^ just gota make sure your vavletrain can handle the more aggressive cam lobes. Aftermarket vavle springs are a must when installing a bigger cam. Also lifters, pushrods, cam bearings, rocker arms would be a safe upgrade for future but arnt always necessary upgraded.

I find it kinda hard to understand what your meaning, maybe afew pics could make things easier to understand? Also what was the problem for you to pull the engine apart?

Kingys Calais back to sleeper spec

Very nice car mate, im guessing that is a comp LSr cam? I was thinking about going the same cam, ive heard nothing but good things about the LSr range. How do u like that cam?
  28. M

what does this do and effect?

Its something that u cannot remove, it vents oil fumes and vapours from the crankcase into the intake manifold and out the exhaust to prevent those fumes from causing leaks/trouble in ur engine.

Anyone know the cylinder head specs for the LS1 VZ SS?

The casting number will be in the top side of the head above the first exhaust hole. I believe they would be 241 castings but its worth checking incase previous owners have swapped them. 243 castings head are a good upgrade over 241. What specs did u want to know?

Anyone know the cylinder head specs for the LS1 VZ SS?

Easiest way to find this would be to get the casting number off the head. The casting number will likely be ending with 241. A simple google search once u have the casting number and you'll find the specs

Where to install guage sender units ls1

Thanks for all the help guys, I think ill use the sandwich plate for oil pressure and temp, also I remember seeing a similar thing for using a larger oil filter? Is this a different adapter? @ConstantVelocity This is pretty interesting, although I'd rather have the gauges for monitoring while...

Cheers for the info guys. I did find that sandwich plate which can run two senders off but was abit worried about having enough room with both senders, has anyone done it this way without issues? I currently have the motor on a stand so its abit hard for me to measure atm. Also my temp gauge...
