    Tune - 5L

I haven't checked the codes for a while no. I did last time she had a major service, and nothing came up. I haven't had the engine light come on though. I guess that's the first stop. I thought that the fan was purposely rigged to be running full time. I haven't modified her at all, only...

    Tune - 5L

It makes sense. I'm not sure if she's stock or not. She does have a full exhaust, but have no idea what's in the motor. She normally idles at ~800rpm in Drive (auto), and ~600rpm with the A/C. I may have to go down that path. It should be noted that she doesn't have the idle issues without the...

    Tune - 5L

G'day Gents, I've thrown $2500 into my money-pit, fixing up the bearings, CV joints, and replacing the A/C compressor, and now I'd love to part with some more money and get her a tune. Since I've replaced the A/C, I've noticed that she doesn't like idling with the A/C on in hot & humid...

it's basically a VP ute with the 180kw HSV option. (It should have a HSV plate on the firewall, otherwise it's the good ol' LB9 165kw)

    Lowered Commodores

Cheers for your feedback gents, I previously owned two VS Commodores, one with a live axle, and the other with IRS. Both had stock suspension. I do realise that my VP is twenty-five years old, but in all fairness, I took my IRS VS out to the NT, on some very rough, corrugated roads. She had...

    Sticking/grabbing brake caliper

Cheers for the feedback gents, much appreciated. I meant to get on here earlier but life got in the way. My brakes were a cheap $195 fix including flush, pads, rotors and machining. Unfortunately, her issues don't end there. The noises I've been hearing are her bearings, and she needs new CV...

    Lowered Commodores

G'day Gents, I apologise in advance for any offence caused. Lowering one's vehicle: I cannot for the life of me fathom, why, someone would spend thousands of dollars on lowering their vehicle and replacing functional wheels/tyres with over-sized rims and low-profile tyres. I am...

    Sticking/grabbing brake caliper

lack of maintenance: I'll concede that point. I've never used it for a daily driver until very recently. I've owned her for the past three years now, and she'd get driven once a month tops. That was until my daily (a Ford) shat herself, and I've had to use my VP as a daily, and also as a work...

G'day gents, have any of you had a sticking/grabbing brake caliper on your VN/VPs, and if so, how large a problem was it to fix?

    Dyno Time - 304

True... I don't know what if any affect running the test in second rather than third would do, other than the higher torque figure.
  13. VSCristian

    Dyno Time - 304

Mate, that's 567nm in SECOND gear. They did the run in second for some reason. Seeing how second is 1.65, that would mean she would get 354nm in third. I don't know what revs they went up to, but I'm pretty sure they redlined her. She has a 3.45 LSD but am unsure how this would affect the figure
  14. VSCristian

Interpreting Dyno results: RWNM, motive force etc.

She has a HSV CAI and K&N Filter, and headers, high-flow kitty, and single 2.5" exhaust. If she got 567nm in second, which is 1.625:1 that would mean 354nm in third which is 1:1 I don't know why they did it in second. Am quite disappointed to be honest. I thought she'd be in the 130s
  15. VSCristian

    Dyno Time - 304

my mistake: second gear is 1.625:1, meaning she'd be making 354Nm in third gear. That's quite disappointing.
  16. VSCristian

    Dyno Time - 304

First and second gears are torque multipliers though aren't they? so 567nm in second would be higher than what she gets at the motor, or in third gear. Off the top of my head, second is 0.73, and third is 1.00:1 so she'd be making 414nm in third.
  17. VSCristian

Interpreting Dyno results: RWNM, motive force etc.

G'day Gents, I had a disappointing dyno run today, or so I think: my 5L only pulled 122.8rwkw. I think there's more to it than that: They did the run in second gear, and rw torque was 567Nm. Why would they do the run in second? and would the reading be affected? I was of the opinion...
  18. VSCristian

    Dyno Time - 304

Don't know why they'd do it in second. Unsure how 567nm compares - if it's high or low: dyno runs seem to be about rwkw. Them Dyno Dynamics ones don't even list the torque.

    VP Air Conditioning system

G'day Gents, Should the metal pipes for the air conditioning system be insulated in foam? If so, what sort of foam would you use? Most of the 5L VN/VPs engine bays that I see seem to have bare metal pipes, but I do believe that they were insulated when they came out of the factory. The

    VP Commodore Fuel Tank size

Cheers mate, As far as I can tell nobody's messed with her. That said, I've only owned her since June 2013. The reason for my post is because all the V8s I seem to see have the 80L tank. To be honest, 63L is a bit too small for the V8.

5L V8 on petrol AND gas

On my EL, the gas gets injected just before the TB, leaving the motor untouched (I don't know what's inside). Such a setup might be worth exploring on a boosted 5L. Like I mentioned before, TD fourbies do it, and classic aviation motors used to use various forms of liquids/gas (such as methanol...

5L V8 on petrol AND gas

Very true mate. My EL averages 13L/100km on petrol, and 16L/100kms on gas, but given the price difference between the fuels it more than makes up for it. I might get 400kms out of my gas tank, so yes I do fill up more, but again, well worth it. My six is for pay, my eight for play. My 5L VP...

5L V8 on petrol AND gas

In Western Sydney LPG is around $0.62/L, and some places have it for $0.57 as opposed to $1.32 for regular 91 octane fuel. Option - Merchandised PKG Holdens Senator (XW5)

Finally got a call back from Holden regarding the XW5 option on a VP. It was a "heavy duty option for the Automatic Transmission"... he couldn't explain it further, but it is quite possible that it was the large tranny cooler which my vehicle's fitted with.

yeah mate, right it was the outback pack right up to the VK. On the VP it was renamed to the "Senator" pack, which is unrelated to the HSV Senator for that extra confusion. Holden will hopefully get back to me this week and reveal the mystery.. this is getting rather annoying.
