    4x4 tyres

You could use rally tyres they are about that size, 205/75 15. They are fairly noisey on the road.

Track Day Advice. What did you do?

It is worth fitting a cooler on the power steering fluid. If you rev them hard for long periods the fluid will boil and could seize the pump.

Ford to shut down production in Australia?

I don't know what the exact numbers are but I heard on sky news last night from someone that had read the Ford eba that a lot of the employees were earning roughly double what the award rate is. This is due to Union pressures no doubt but also the company had to agree to this. They also enjoy...

Question for people in the know with laws and fines etc

Have you called the state debt recovery office? I would ring to find out what the fine is all about, it may be just an error. Failing that I would contact legal aid, they should be able to help you and I believe it is a free service.

    Car enthusiasts beware of NRMA

I am disgusted with the NRMA. I just transfered all of my insurances, house and contents car and CTP away from them. The reason is they put up the green slip on my Rodeo ute from $680 to $1025 in one year. I rang them and said I think there is a mistake on my policy. They didn't ask what...

    140-150dB stereo system

hmmmm. I must be getting old, cause I can't understand why you would want to spend $4000 of your hard earned on a sound system to make it loud enough that it can cause instant ( that is immediate and irreversible ) hearing damage. Do you want to be deaf all of your life?

    Planning a trip to USA

When I flew to the grand canyon the planes landed there. This was in 1995 though. There is a small air port near the south rim that they land at. Then they take you to the rim in a van. You get a couple of hours to look around and then fly back. I have no idea on current prices, I think way back...

    Planning a trip to USA

Fly out there. Either fly out there in s small plane or you can go in a chopper. I think the plane is cheaper. Driving would be more than a day trip I think and you get a much better feeling for how big it is from the air. When I went it was in the late 90's. Flew out of vegas in a 12 seater...

    VE Timing chain

This is not the first time or will it be the last that something like this happens. Remember the Suzuki Swift 1300cc GTI from the early 90's. If you are young you probably won't cause there is bugger all left of them around. In their day they were like lice on the roads. They used to break...

I had a new split system put in at home 2 weeks ago. The guy that did the job was telling me due to the gubments stupid rules there is now a huge black market in refrigerant gases. He also told me new home builders are being told if they want ducted air in the new house thay have to put...

Towing car trailer with vn 5spd

I used to have a VP V6 5 speed and towed my old Vh V8 rally car with it plenty of times. I had a tow bar that was rated to 2200kg. It had a big wide bar that went under the fuel tank and bolted to the floor near the diff. It towed the car OK. The body creaked and groaned a bit but it moved...

Mobil fuel here in Sydney comes from the Caltex refinery in Kurnell. I has been a few years since I worked in that industry but Mobil has a distribution depot on Silverwater road and the fuel comes via a pipeline under Botany Bay, through the burbs to Silverwater and then on to Newcastle. The...

    ve muffler dripping rust-something

I am sorry but this teacher needs to go back to school. Any hydrocarbon such as natural gas or petrol will give off water as a product of combustion. Methane gas ( the simplest form of hydrocarbon ) is one carbon atom and 4 hydrogen atoms. So when burnt... CH4 + 2O2 =...

Racing a ute. Pros / Cons

Don't modify anything except what you need to make it reliable. So do the power steer cooler and some good brake pads and fluid. Then get out here and drive it. When you are first starting, the only thing you should spend money on is essential safety equipment and entry fees. Then after...

    Las Vegas anyone????????

It is pretty cheap there, but you have to remember the whole GFC thing hit the US very hard and one of the first things to suffer was tourism. The Grand Canyon trip sounds great. It will be most likely be really hot there at that time of the year, think 40+ during the day. You might be spending a lot of time by the pool. Commodore rally car

Yeah that car is overpriced in my opinion, but it would be worth your time to go and have a good look to see what sort of things are done to a rally car to make it reliable and to prevent damage. I sold my car for 12 grand with about 20 wheels and 12 good tyres, plus a ute load of spares. Unless...

    Commodore rally car

A commodore can be very competitive in the right hands. About 2 years ago a guy by the name of Geoff Portman won the Alpine rally in Victoria in a VH 6cyl commodore. Commodore rally car

I have been involved in rallying for nearly 20 years now and had a VH V8 rally car for about 3 years but sold it early last year. A V8 commodore is a popular car with the spectators and is spectacular if driven hard. My car was a 308 with a super t10 g box and a 3.25 VN diff. It was a fun...

Wander through all the casinos. They all have some pretty cool things to see. You can do a day trip via small plane or helicopter to the grand canyon. I was there in December and went out to Hoover dam. I thought it was worthwhile. I also went to the Titanic exhibition at the Luxor and was...

Tow a horse float -Sportwagon SV6

An SV6 wagon will tow that Ok. 2 things to be carefull of. If you tow up a lot of hills the gearbox may get very hot. Keep an eye on inside of the rear tyres. They will proably wear quickly.

    can you paint chrome?

I painted the bumpers on my VH rally car. I just rubbed them with green scotchbrite then used a product call Wattle super etch. It is good stuff. It didn't scratch off in the time I had the car. It is matt black, so if you want to use a gloss over that it shouldn't be a problem.

Make sure you fit a BIG power steering fluid cooler as they don't like to be reved hard. I have seen a lot of them boil fluid and seize the pump at supersprints etc.

    Rego fees in your state

I got the rego for my 2002 rodeo ute the other day. The compulsory third party green slip was $680 The rego $468. That is $1148 plus the roadworthy inspection. I shopped around for another green slip price and some of the ahole insurance companies wanted $980!

    Datsun 200B

The beautifull thing about datsuns is their parts interchangibility. A 5 sp box out of virtually any datsun will bolt up to that engine. So you can go for a 240K or z even a VL or skyline box will work. If you want to go with something more modern, an sr20 box will bolt up as well.

    hilux vs navara personal opinions

I have heard a lot lately that a lot of BT50's have been breaking cam belts at around 100k. Very expensive the fix. They were talking about this on lateline about 2 weeks ago. That 5% cut in emissions equates to 160 millions tons. So far this totally incompetant gov has spent well over $4 billion and the cut that that has resulted in is around 4 million tons ( I think, dont quote me but it was stuff all)...

Problems with the whole climate change idea

No volcanic Activity? When mount Pinatubo (sp?) blew up in the Phillipines in the 80's it spewed out more "green house gases" than man has generated in the entire time we have been on earth. Which by the way is a lot longer than 10000 years. This is just another lie to perpetuate the myth...

    Water out of the exhaust?

Whenever you burn petrol or any hydrocarbon for that matter ,assuming you get complete combustion, the by products are carbon dioxide and water. The water is in the form of steam ( this is the white smoke you are seeing ) and the water coming out of you exhaust pipe is condensed steam. I would...
