VY SS rear main seal leak advice?

My mechanic mate and me did mine, it was a prick of a job. He said definitely take transmission out and leave engine so that's what we did. It was not easy and I would definitely not attempt this without a hoist and workshop.

    Help with key fob

I've had a new key cut and reprogrammed at mister minute, worked no worries, they had to choose a key number out of 5 or something and took a guess and it worked. I've never experienced it but my understanding is if the immobiliser isn't deactivated the car will actually start and run for a...

    V8 Rear Main Seal Repair

My rear main has been leaking for a while and it's getting pretty bad. I do most of my own mechanical work but won't do this. Anyone know somewhere in Brisbane or Gold Coast that does it for a good price? Anyone had quotes or had it done? Vy. V8. LS1. I'll pay cash or beer, whatever...

VZ Timing chain - can you still drive with the chain stretched?

If the mechanic took the car to fix the engine light, charged $3500 and he didn't fix it then definitely bring it back and make a scene. If it's running great now maybe the engine light is due to a separate issue. Is he telling you what codes it's throwing up? Ask for the actual code number...

    Temp issues vy ss

There is no way your coolant is actually dropping that much in temperature in a short time so it must be temp sensor related. Did the temp dropping start when the sensor was changed? No need to bleed the V8 as it's self bleeds so no way it is air bubbles. Radiator cap unlikely, sound sensor or...

Should i buy a VY SS wagon

Have had mine from 130,000km to 210,000km now, same issues as any sedan. I've done a water pump, oil pressure sensor, couple of bushes, tail shaft coupling. It's the wagon feature that is the best part about it, I've even laid my postie bike down in the back of it for transport. VY wagon 2700...

Should i buy a VY SS wagon

FARKIN YES GET IT!!!!! Best car I've ever owned, the practicality is amazing, surfboards, bikes, bed, huge boot area, forget the kids bring the toys, towing, leather seats, 6 disc cd, FE2 suspension and god damn LS1!!! I've had mine 3 years and really have no intention on upgrading, you buy...

    Towing with a VZ

Really need to know the weight of the boat to tell you it will be ok, pretty much that's the only critical information we need, the rest is a nice story though. Probably if you've towed it with all those other cars it'll be fine, but with all those car upgrades........it must be time for a...

Vy, starting cranks, no spark.. But wait 60sec starts like nothing wrong

Does the little flashing padlock on the dash turn off? If it goes out then immobiliser is deactivated. Maybe fuel related? Does it only happen after been sitting for a while and fuel pressure needs to be built up again during the 60 seconds? Just ideas.....
  12. franklinfrog

    vy ss starting issue

If the old one still works then $130 is all you have to pay. Mister Minit will encode it. They'll encode the new one all inclusive ready to go. But if the old one still unlocks fine everytime, perhaps just the pin is dirty or the metal ring around the ignition needs prying towards the key a bit...

    vy ss starting issue

If the old one is still putting out a signal to lock and unlock your car, a new key is $130 at Mister Minute. If the old one is stuffed, you're looking at $180 - $250 for a proper locksmith to use your VIN number to encode a new key.
  14. franklinfrog

    vy ss starting issue

Definitely sounds like key/immobiliser issue. Check that the key is making good (and clean) contact with the metal ring around ignition. Even if you don't remove it ever, it still turns when you start and stop the car so could be the cause. Try using your spare key for a while. And check if the...

    Headlining Removal

I've replaced the lining in my wagon. Replacing the lining as above is at least a full day job and that orange foam stuff is horrible. VY Calais V8 crazy warning lights

My guess is either alternator overcharging or ABS module. Alternator can be hard to catch because it can be intermittent. Test voltage with engine running and if possible when all the crazy lights are on. Since your problems seems to disappear when you disconnect ABS, then ABS module would be #1...

Total loss of power. All lights, dash lights, radio etc turn off then back on again.

You need a scan tool to check codes on a VZ so that's probably your best starting point. If alternator and battery connections are all ok then yes I'd definitely be investigating ignition barrel, sounds like the car is just 'turning off'.

    Engine dies after first start

^^^ Never heard of being able to resync the key but worth a try. I'd say key is on the way out and it's not deactivating the immobiliser. Make sure it's making good contact with the silver metal strip and is clean. Check to see if the little flashing lock symbol goes away next time it happens...

VY S2 HBD LS1 AUTO BERLINA Serious idle issue and false MIL

When a car is warming up it runs in open loop mode, which means it doesn't use feedback from sensors but rather from predefined settings in the computer. Once it's warm it switches to closed loop where it uses sensor feedback to run smoothly. I'd suspect you have a sensor problem. So maybe your...

    V8 SS Oil

I use Penrite too. Mostly because it's a good Aussie independent brand. I'm less concerned about what my 10 year old V8 Commodore gets, I reckon anything would do just fine if you can't read the manual. Honestly I don't care what my manual says either, I use HPR15. So far so good.......

VZ SS V8 Crewman - Missfire 3 xFuel use

Sounds like O2 sensors, check their wiring, or test operation or just replace. I'd just be putting new ones in. Keep it going! That's all minor considering the km it's done! You could get another 100,000km out of it!! Forget the throttle service and handbrake. I assume it's an auto, what auto needs a handbrake, I never use mine. Brake fluid is worth getting done, shouldn't really be more than $100 to...

    BCM dying??

    VE Rims.

Studs are 12mm on VZ and earlier, 14mm on VE. So if you put VE wheels on your earlier commodore there is a massive gap around studs. Rectify this with spacers (sleeves), or new studs. Or some people just get centring wheel nuts and hope for the best. Or some people just bolt them on with...
