[QLD] WTB Headlight protectors, VX Berlina or Calais

DESCRIPTION: Wanted to Buy ITEM: I'm looking for a pair of headlight protectors to suit either a VX Calais or Berlina. A bonnet protector would be nice too but may be expensive to post. LOCATION: Gold Coast, Queensland CONDITION: New or used is fine as long as in good condition. I have a set...

    l67 fuel consumption

I have a 2001 VX Calais L67 and I average around 10 l / 100 klm, and that's all sorts of driving around. All stock except the bottom of the CAI cut out. My car has 205, 000 k on it but well maintained. I find that the choice of oil and tyre pressure makes a noticeable difference in fuel economy...

    Vibration at 110 klm / hr, I think i've been reamed. :(

Just an update to this now rather old thread. The vibration only ever got slightly better each thing I tried but was always there. I took the car to the mechanic my wife bought her Subaru from and he fixed it, once and for all. I cant believe its the same car, its now silky smooth at any...

The adjustable rear ends only started with the VX Series 2, and then its only for rear toe, not camber.

Vt Beebs on start up, Engine Oil Abs lights on unable to retrieve error codes

Check your alternator as well. I had the same problem and thought bugger it that damn abs module is knackered AGAIN! But no, it was the voltage regulator in the back of the alternator. The alternator looses regulation and puts out too much voltage and the various computers in the car go...

    Cleaning the A/C evaporator coils

Gidday, I decided to once again try and sort out why the A/C in my Calais stops working after about an hour or 2 of driving. I suspected that the evaporator was icing up, as the airflow drops down to almost nothing, and disengaging the A/C compressor for a while slowly restores airflow...

    Basket case?

First thing Id do is get a manual. There is a genuine factory CD floating around that is the best manual Ive ever seen.

A/C works great, for around 1 to 2 hours.

So if I was to put an LED on the clutch power line, and the clutch never cycles that would mean that it isn't that control valve at fault? Its been quite a while since I got the new compressor fitted and I doubt Id get any sort of attention under warranty that's all. I was even considering...

A/C works great, for around 1 to 2 hours.

I haven't noticed the clutch cutting in and out, but then I haven't paid a huge amount of attention to it as the problem really only shows up mostly after at least 1 hours driving. I might temporarily wire up an LED to the clutch wire and dangle it below the dash to see when the compressor...

A/C works great, for around 1 to 2 hours.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I don't really want to live with it. I have a Calais with ECC and Id assume that once set at a certain temp it would get to that temp and stay there. I paid top dollar ($770) to have the A/C supposedly professionally diagnosed and repaired. Im a disabled pensioner...

A/C works great, for around 1 to 2 hours.

Hi everyone. A while back I took my car to an aircon place to have the A/C diagnosed. They ended up replacing the compressor which they said was leaking. Ever since then, the A/C works fine, but after around 1 to 2 hours of continuous driving, the airflow drops off and gets hotter. Ive...

Traction Control light comes on when in 3rd gear??

Im no expert o these things but my thoughts are that it would probably be a faulty or misadjusted wheel sensor. The traction control / abs system senses differences in the speed of the wheels to determine if a wheel is slipping or locked under braking, and act accordingly. Perhaps go to a...

VT S2 Original Radio/Tape Buttons not working

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere about this fault being caused by removal of the unit by pulling from inside the cassette entry. Apparently it caused the internal circuit board with the buttons mounted on it to become dislodged. Sounds like it would be easy enough to fix. Best of luck, Raff

    in need of help plz

Sounds like the u shaped coolant pipe on the thermostat housing, mine did the same thing. Just need to take off throttlebody and supercharger u-bend to get to it. Id replace the thermostat while I was there.

    Vibration at 110 klm / hr, I think i've been reamed. :(

An update for anyone else with vibration problems that just wont go away. A couple of days ago I went to use the car and the handbrake stuck on one wheel, so I thought I better investigate. I pulled both back wheels calipers and discs off and found the whole handbrake assembly filthy and...

    Vibration at 110 klm / hr, I think i've been reamed. :(

Got the new hubs from the courier today, fitted them this arvo and have done a quick test, so far much improvement, just a little vibration from the back wheels at 100 k or thereabouts. Im going to pull the back wheels off and go over the disc mounting area on the hubs and clean them really well...

can you replace a ball joint on a vt front control arm?

Gidday, believe or not mine did the same and installing a 4 point camber / toe kit in the rear fixed it. The rear end car steer the car as it goes over bumps causing that effect.

    Vibration at 110 klm / hr, I think i've been reamed. :(

Just an update guys, today was the first time Ive been well enough to look at the car again, besides yesterday it was raining all day! Anyway, I decided to look at the front end first, so I took off the drivers side from wheel and examined everything, first thing I notice is all the rust and...

    Vx idiling issues

Sounds to me like a vacuum leak. Try a bit of CRC or WD40 and spray a little around the spacer etc, with the engine running, any change means a leak.

    Vt 5.7 battery drain ideas

I just remembered something, sorry but these days my brain juice is all but dried out. In my car the subwoofer amplifier in the boot stayed turned on and drained the battery. Also for some strange reason even with the key out my car powers the odd relay here and there at times, maybe its...

    Vt 5.7 battery drain ideas

According to the manual around 35mA is the standing current draw depending on equipment level, from memory my Calais was around 45mA, at 150mA its unlikely to be a stuck lamp, sounds more like a stuck relay, Pull the fuses one by one and watch the meter while listening for relays clicking...

    Vibration at 110 klm / hr, I think i've been reamed. :(

I don't think the centre bearing can be replaced in a VX. According to the workshop manual, the prop shaft is not repairable. I did get the hub rings installed, there were none before, and yes aftermarket wheels, they were on the car when I bought it. I think the brakes are ok, no vibration...

    Vibration at 110 klm / hr, I think i've been reamed. :(

Interesting. I found in my manual that when you change the gearbox mount its seemed recommended to leave out the spacer as the prop shaft can hit the auto shifter and damage it on rough roads. I didn't see any damage to the shifter and left the spacer out anyway. The old mount looked ok, just...

    Vibration at 110 klm / hr, I think i've been reamed. :(

I checked the engine mounts and they LOOKED ok, but as they don't seem that expensive to buy, and mine look like they are the originals, Ill buy some when I can and change them anyway. Thanks for the input. Regards, Raff

    Vibration at 110 klm / hr, I think i've been reamed. :(

I used to repair electronics and computers for a living, and back then my policy was no fix, no charge. Then again I'm hardly flush with cash these days... not that I had to do many freebies anyway, I usually found and fixed the problem.still its a thought, I did take it to Pedders with a...

    Vibration at 110 klm / hr, I think i've been reamed. :(

Thanks guys and Gals, There are some good suggestions here. When Im up to it Im going to crawl under the car and have another look. Ill drop the prop shaft and turn it to a new position and see what happens, at least its a no cost option! I cant really change the centre bearing as suggested...

    Vibration at 110 klm / hr, I think i've been reamed. :(

Thanks for the replies everyone. I went to Pedders as I have heard more good reports than bad about the local one here on the Gold Coast, and was sick of dealing with the foolish gorillas at AusTyre. They did the wheel nuts up so tight that they broke even their "special" socket getting them...

    Vibration at 110 klm / hr, I think i've been reamed. :(

Drewie, I read on here that the lock up clutch in the converter might be the problem. I tried dropping the car into neutral and also 3rd while doing about 110 on the freeway, didn't seem to make much difference. The engine seems fine, nice and smooth, its smoother than the engine in my old...

    Vibration at 110 klm / hr, I think i've been reamed. :(

Thanks for the replies. Demonica, yes I have heard the horror stories but I just wanted it fixed. I used to do all the work myself until I became too ill. I did try and find alternate places to take it, but couldn't find any, oh well its done now. I had taken the car to 3 different places...

    Vibration at 110 klm / hr, I think i've been reamed. :(

Gidday All, I bought myself a 2001 VX Calais a coupla years ago, she seemed to be in good nick. Anyway, it has always had this very annoying vibration that comes on at around 110 k /hr, the steering wheel vibrates and the whole body does. After taking to the local tyre and wheel blokes, who...

    Mushy strut tops?

Yeah I know, I know I took it to pedders. But, in my defence, I have taken it everywhere else I could think of beforehand and no one could fix it. I even got unbelievably BAD sevice at AusTyre, but thats another story. In the end, Pedders DID fix the problem, and all up I do believe the car...

    Mushy strut tops?

Gidday everone, I hope the day finds you well. Can someone do a little check for me please? Can you go out to your Commodore and see if the front of it bounces a little bit before the struts have a chance to work? I think my newish strut tops might be crap. Mine bounces about 10 to 20...

    The shakes

Gidday all, I have a problem with my VX Calais and its driving me batty. It drives really well until I hit around 90 km / hr or so, and then it feels like things in the suspension area are loosening up. The steering kind of feels sloppy. Following that once I get to say 100 km / hr I get...
