Won't start for 10 minutes when hot

As a long shot, your computer may be dodgy also. It may be giving normal readings, but it's shutting the engine off when it gets warm. Does the Acclaim have an external temperature sensor? If so, this may be a problem. I wouldn't know as I only have an Executive.

Won't start for 10 minutes when hot

You know, I have the same problem but only after extended trips. It won't even turn over for about an hour, then after waiting it cranks and fires as if a brand new battery was placed in it. I've also been told to check out the coil packs too.

Sorry for the delay forgot all about it but I'm due for another long trip and when I thought about the problem and discussing it with a friend, she tonight suggested taking it into a sparky and check the coil packs like you suggested. The fuel consumption problem has been found but not...

Would you like autopilot too? French fries? 106cm Plasma TV unit folding down from the roof? How about a 4 cylinder? Something that won't cost $120 a week to drive. >anarky

A couple of other questions. What is the recommended spark plug gap? The workshop manual recommends about 1.5mm. The packet says 1.5mm. People suggest 0.7mm. At the moment I am running .85mm. It's going fine. Plug leads. Does anyone else find they are prematurely (under 20,000km) doing in...

I should give this a go. What sort of economy do you get? I just want to get some idea of how well or unwell my engine is running. All please reply. >anarky

The apparant problem is starting it. A new battery will crank over the engine very fast, and it fires quick. An older battery (1mth+) will not. I know the battery is fine. Perhaps the starter solenoid is worn? Perhaps if it is, it can be draining more power when it gets hot. >anarky

Is that why my battery always dies every few months? :| >anarky

Anyone got an exhaust pipe? Another fault perhaps is the baffler breaking down. Rattles heaps now, and I have a big split behind the muffler. >anarky

Well, as it turns out, I haven't had much of a problem with it since New Year's. When cold, it does take some hesitation before it fires, but when warm it's as good as gold. I have unfortunately found a leaky oil seal behind the harmonic balancer, hence I am always regularly topping up oil until...

    Just a few things

Ive found that the problem may be a dicky injector. Flooding a chamber when warm and making it hard to crank. Hard to believe isnt it? Well, I'll take it in to get looked at by a mechanic. At least then I will know exactly whats happening. >anarky

    Just a few things

I must have bought a lemon... Reason is as follows: I now have electrical problems! Sheesh! Leave the car overnight and the battery goes dead. After being off for say, 3 hours, it starts fine. Try to start it after a long drive when it's warm, like after refuelling, no go. But if I jump start...

Yikes! Hey guys Im back. I had a problem Boxing day last year - my battery died overnight, and after two jump starts, wouldn't hold charge. At first I thought it may be the alternater. But it was whirring away nicely. Turns out it was a flat (and buggered) battery. So, $115 later, I've got...

Dash illumination and tail lights out

Rectified I have located the problem. After pulling all the fuses, i found two incorrectly rated fuses which were blown. After replacing the fuses, I went into the boot and found both lower tail lights had water up to the bulb in them. This was in turn corroding and rusting the bulb contacts...

    Just a few things

I was reading a previous thread about fuel economy, and I'm also curious as to how to bump it up. I am currently getting around 7-9km's to a L of fuel. I know it can do better. I regularly service the car myself. Is it in need of a tune up? It's a stock 3.8 EFI V6. Actually, the entire...

Dash illumination and tail lights out

Hi guys. Nice site! :) Anyway, my fiance's VN Executive has problems with lighting. The tail lights are off when they should be on with the headlights, along with the instrument cluster lights and dash lights. I have checked the fuses, yet all are OK. We were done by the cops for the lights...
