I believe weekendwarrior2 might be correct. Time dims the memory.

    Goodbye... Holden :(

All I'm saying is, get your stockpile sorted now.

    Goodbye... Holden :(

You'll find that they already sell parts to Holden as genuine components. Now that the gate has been left open the market for Chinese made Rolex car parts will explode.

    Goodbye... Holden :(

I think Holden will only be interested in the 10 year scenario for 'existing' customers. To me, that means ZB and any other new car sold in 2020 or thereabouts. Everything else preceding that will be getting the chop as far as parts are concerned, starting with older models first. VZ > VE > VF...

    Goodbye... Holden :(

I disagree. I think the Cruze parts will go sooner than the VF. If you want to stockpile parts then do it now.

    Goodbye... Holden :(

From Holden. Read between the lines. For how long will Holden provide spare parts? Holden will provide existing Holden customers aftersales support for at least 10 years, including warranty, service, spare parts and any required recall or field actions. This statement tells me that if you've...

    A new issue... P2138

I agree. I have owned Holden's since 1978. LJ XU-1 Torana, LJ Torana SL sedan, VC SL Commodore sedan, VS Berlina sedan, VY Acclaim sedan. Yep, five successive Holden's over 40 years. All have been reliable transport and all were bought second-hand, though the XU-1 wasn't considered as...

Do I dare get a VY/VY II Calais as my first car?

Since you asked, here's my reply for what it's worth. You're young and looking for your first car, that's an exciting time in any persons life. A VY Calais V6 is more than acceptable as a first choice of car and I hope you find one that makes you happy. Having said that, you should learn to...

What did you do to your VY/VZ today?

Mine is in excellent condition and is in the 'olde' variety. Today I changed the air cleaner element. By the end of the week I will change the front brake pads. I think 84,000k's out of a set of genuine pads is decent enough.

Was there really a VY Sandman???

I would assume as much. One thing is certain though, Holden never ran these things down the line or anywhere near it. I would go as far as to say that if you wanted one you would have asked for that to happen at the point of sale when buying a ute. Dealer sends ute to aftermarket company to have...

Was there really a VY Sandman???

Holden didn't produce the canopies. In essence, a ute was sent to an aftermarket company to undergo an irreversible procedure that transformed it into a panel van. Think along the lines of Holden ute trays and hard covers as far as changing a stock ute/one tonner is concerned.
  13. V

Was there really a VY Sandman???

As a factory car produced by Holden? Nope. That thing's got more stripes than a Bengal tiger.

HQ Silver Anniversary Premier. I haven't seen one in many a year. 1500 built.

What oil do vy drivers tend to use

Just my opinion but with virtually 300,000k on the clock I would be looking at 20w50, especially if it's burning oil. Currently, my VY V6 has 158,000k on it and I have been using ac delco 15w40 for the last 30,000k or thereabouts. It generally uses about 300 mls of top up oil in between...

    Vy steering rack

Two totally different racks. Best option is to get an exchange/reconditioned rack for about $250.00.

    Vy serpentine belt number?

There is only one VY V6 drive belt (non supercharged). The Holden part # is 92100691. Cross reference that and you should be sweet.

    VY Fuel filter Problems

I suspect you have changed the fuel filter without using the appropriate tool that releases the connectors. If so, you will need to buy a new fuel connecting pipe as the connector clips aren't serviced on their own.

    VY CALAIS Revers sensor

It's possible one of the sensors is cactus. You would need to test them one by one first. It's more likely that than the reverse module in my opinion.

    Vy not starting

What do you mean you hooked it up to jumper leads for 10 minutes? Theoretically, you would only need to hook up jumpers to another power source and it should fire up immediately. I'd say your battery has carked it but more info would be helpful.

    Cleaning Speedo Cluster Screen VY

The lens for the instrument cluster is still available brand new from Holden. It's about $30.00. Part# 92145552.

Clean vx sedan or used vy ute

First off, your choice should be based on the body style you need, ute or sedan. Second, price and history of the car of your choice. The ute is starting to get up there with 250k on the clock and it's been messed with. Service history would be helpful. The VX is low k for that model but again...

    'Shudder' in the driveline.

I'm thinking your problem is related to the manifold gaskets replacement. It's kind of like open heart surgery, the leads and a whole bunch of other stuff gets removed and replaced. I'm thinking leads or coils, maybe. How long ago were your leads replaced? Any service history you can post and...

Will you ever buy another Holden?

I'm a RWD man, always will be. I'm good at getting longevity out of my Commodores (15 years and more) and love owning/driving my current VY. It's cheap to service and extremely reliable. If I was in the position, I would buy a new 2017 VF and that would see me though to handing in my licence...

New Commodore - 2018 First Look

This is a big call for Holden. I certainly don't think current Commodore enthusiasts will endear themselves to the thought of an overseas sourced FWD, 4 cylinder/ V6 hatchback with a Commodore badge on it sitting in their driveway. Change can be a hard thing to deal with at times, especially...

    VS Commodore misfiring

How many k's on your VS and how old in k's were the plug leads from the donor Berlina? I would be looking into replacing the coils one at a time. Connector to the DFI module can be an issue but that's kinda rare. Auto elect could probably find the problem soon enough.

    VY Berlina Owners Manual

Everything from Executive to Calais used the same owners manual. The only difference was series 1 to series 2. The service manual was a separate book again.

Molykote is a caliper slide grease from memory. Holden sold it. I can try and get the part #.

    VY Bluetooth

Just an update, I finally got around to installation time and decided to go with the factory Bluetooth. I got all the parts brand new ( the module itself is now superseded to a VE module) and it works perfectly. I am trying to keep it as factory as possible as the car itself is in excellent...

Vy series 2 ute handbrake not clicking?

Sounds like the complete handbrake lever. There is a plastic stem that goes through the middle of the lever, I'd say it's snapped or worn out. A new lever is still available though Holden. (p/n 92145423).

    Door Actuators

Hope you get it sorted, Craig. Nothing more frustrating than an issue with a car that's difficult to track down.

    Keypad issues

Yes you do. It's directly in the middle of the dash right up against the windscreen. The left and right demister vent trims are on either side of it. Makes it look like a square piece of dash coloured trim but if you remove the 2 demister vents trims you will gain access to it. I used this image...

    Door Actuators

Does the boot open when you press the remote? I had a similar problem but it affected everything related to the key remote buttons. The buttons wouldn't operate anything. Turned out to be the sun sensor in the middle of the dash. I replaced that and all has been working fine ever since.

Cooling system and heater diagnosis ?

    Are you losing any coolant?
  39. V

    Keypad issues

I am guessing it's a sun sensor issue. That's the sensor in the middle of the dash right up against the windscreen. I'd look at replacing that next.
