Aw nah, I'm not an expert, I'm a reasonably good listener , single minded obsessive and found something I like. Being able to write entertaining stories has kept the interest up in this car and attracted the right people. There is a fairly high attrition rate amongst early starters in landspeed...
that would be fuel class, the Bonneville record for that is in the 290's
We are unblown gasoline class. Motors in this game need to run for three or four miles at full whack, drag motors won't cut it, meth is good but it's a different class. They have tank sealing at Bonneville and they...
Ta Mort,
lot of naysayers on the combo we had, but it did just what it was built for and looks like it is OK...still had the oil in it anyway..... The Bonneville record for E(180-260 ci) Gas Lakester is 236.xxxmph , that's just under 7000rpm with the 2.41:1 that we finished with, I started both...
Thanks Trikky,
there was a pair of guys there with a VT V6 sedan, 288,000ks, they'd put a centrifugal blower on it and when I last saw them they had run 170's, amazing.I'll update here occasionally, our main build diary is over at landracing.com/forum under Australian bellytank.
hI gUYS, i HAVEN'T BEEN HERE FOR A WHILE BUT i THOUGHT i'D GIVE YOU AN UPDATE.....
As always the preparations for Speedweek were manic. We’d made several major changes to the car in the three years since it had last run and although that is a long time, it never seems like long enough. There...
hmmm, we made 232kw at the flywheel, solid valve train, whopping cam Trick and Mansweto heads, 9.6:1 comp. This motor won't idle, won't see a street car.
expensive and undriveable for a street car , but f***** perfect for what we want it for......
What sort of springs have you got in it Jas?
Are you running the delco?
What did you use for lifters?
What slugs are in it?
Eager to know.......
Cheers
The meet got canceled due to a massive downpour, that's it we have to wait til 2012 to race the car again.Fortunately due to various hold ups I was still at home when the news came through. That's weeks of solid work just in the last fortnight between the three of us....and Ian the dyno guy and...
We have computer issues...... it refuses to rev beyond 6400...... We'll be getting an after market ECM for next year.....Unless I can bot some 30 inch tyres it ain't gonna do 200. I have a set of tiny little mud guards which break us out of "Lakester" class and put us in streamliner class...
yeah, I was there the first day we had rocker trouble...it seems now that they may have been due to the cam lift.....yesterday they were having trouble stuffing enough fuel into it.... I sure hope that we can get to run her on the lake.......
It sounded mad
9.6:1 N/A 284.3hp(212kw)@5500 on premium.
we're waaaaayy behind schedule now though...have to assemble the car in the next two days and go, one small problem......the lake doesn't look that flash and Speedweek is in doubt......
But that's salt racing.
Turns out the head stud kit came from VPW mail-order and there is another set in stock.
ARP flywheel 7/16 set $21.40
OEM Flywheel TTY set $48.50+ GST
I owe you a beer Bart.
Ah, bummer, I thought that was only the eight bolt sets....our first year out we had an 8 bolt and I bought a flywheel from CRS , I swear one of the bolts lost it head at about 15ft/lbs......
Dunno where he nailed the stud set it was $111.....which kind of makes a mockery of paying 8 BUCKS EACH...
Just got word that the heads are bolted up, rockers are on and the one piece Manley rods we used last year are spot on...the motor has good clearance( gonna do a camera check soon to see how much).....Sourced a set of OEM flywheel bolts.....
Starting to get excited with it all again......we...
They're all the same.......had you considered just gutting some carbies ?...that way you could gang up 3 Strombergs or some such and then hide the injectors under some sort of cover........
From where I sit you'd be insane to remove the injection but other than that you just need butterflies...
WOT= Wide Open Throttle. The ser1/ser2 issue is that the PCV and thermostat situation is different, the series one fuel rail looks a bit more Ol' Skool which would suit your purposes better.
As for economy I think ours goes about 18km's on 10litres ,I dunno I haven't kept the log-book up to...
Hi Mick,
we use this on a series one motor , it's for largely WOT work, but it went pretty well across the range when it was on a stocker.
The series1 manifold is a little easier to deal with , but it's no biggy either way.I cut the by-pass off the second TB, they open...
If you're opening it up because you've thrown a rod, then the ARP's would have been a good investment. They won't make more power......if you're not making enough power to trouble the stock ones they are a waste of money, if you are ....they aren't.
Simple.
If however you are spending an...
Sadly no, not a lot we can do about that other than shift high and stay in it. For the first time we'll be using first gear.....we've just dawdled off in second the last two years because having a two stick shift it's easier and safer to have first locked out. I just built a spring load that...
Finger in frame
Oi, any suggestions on what we should use for an oil pressure switch?......also interested in suggestions about the relief valve...
gimme
This, just in from the colonel our engine guy and all-round fix-it man...that's a nice shot he's got of his finger tip.......
So...
My VT parts-hauler with LPG has a CAI, it's not the focus of my attention though.....It's got 320k on the clock, backfires a bit and kills airboxes.......I only lift the bonnet when something stops, got other things on me mind.........
Dunno that the CAI puts it in performance territory...
We didn't get the crack test done there, but we had a bit of a shave on the billet flywheel we use. Ours was a bit cheaper.
It's good insurance , and good sense....you'd be making gobs more grunt than us, we're just revving the ring out of it for a couple o miles
10 bucks says I break ours...
Nice one Cuckoo.
I have a soft spot for a certain streamliner bike in the US that has set a world record with a , wait for it, 50cc 2 stroke at 152mph......... that is a massive achievement . To all you small dick guys out there slagging V6's what are ya gonna do when someone parks next to...
and here's a similar angle from 09....that's the Reverend, the Colonel and me from L to R
That scoop is the very tip of the Sabre tank, cut from the bit we didn't use.... no, Holley don't sell them.
And no, you can't buy pyjamas like mine, that's a nomex fire suit and to be honest with the...
Aluminium
Just found a shot from back when we were putting the bodywork together in this shot you can see the Canberra wing tank which is the bulk of the body and on top is the F86 Sabre tank which has been cut lengthwise and had the louvers punched in it, in the shot i'm using a mig to stitch...
hahahahahah ,when I read this thread, I thought of this song, pay special attention after 1.55, that means you Soop ....

Grunt work
Ok. Got started properly on the car itself on the weekend. There were a couple of spots we cleaned up and repainted. The salt is really hard on things , and it doesn't just sit there dry, it attracts water.....so as long as there's some SOMEWHERE the rust continues unabated..... Maybe...
I'm not a turbo expert, there ARE plenty here....................
The Rodeo motor will get you 3510.
An offset grind means welding and regrinding then replating the rod journals on your crank(*) to decrease the stroke of your motor, then you will need to use longer rods(#), and almost...
I think that the newer ones are a 3.6 and the earlier ones were badged as a 3.5 but came in at 3.2...there are a bunch of GM engines on the Buick V6 wiki page that differ in capacity from the 3.6 and 3.8 but most of the ones in the 3.5 range are 3510 which is no good if you're under strict class...
yep.
That's where my experience and those who really know their stuff in landspeed go their separate ways, an early mentor who I have mentioned before , Jack Dolan from San Diego ran lots of Buicks in various capacities and was a big fan of th de-stroking job. He , counter to much current...
Heads up
Now, we mix some of our favorite hydrocarbon with some of that lovely Lake Gairdner air........
and we poke it in
here.........
it comes out the big valve ....here
and it goes BANG.....then it goes out the little valve...and out through here...
then these things go up...
Heads up
They're for you, but if you want to experiment we make good guinea pigs , however....
I bought a pair of heads that were supposedly done by Trick and Mansweto, they look like they have Ecotec valves in 'em..Steve from MACE seemed suitably impressed with them, they were built for...
Yeah, I know the car , the guy who bought it is building it up with two gas turbines from what I recall...he's not short of a quid..... I'll try and track him down on landracing.com...
here

No regs at all Soop, we're just doing what we can afford and organize......
As for...
Stock cubes
That was a dead stock motor with a port clean up, dual TB's and a big exhaust....we thought we had the limiter fooled, but we was the fools.
Last year it had no limiter apart from the brains behind the build.
The very first time I drove it at Managalore airport I was...
