I cannot post in the spare parts for sale section

Hi Team, Could I please ask someone to look into my account too. I also don't have the ability to post threads in the For Sale section - but have been a member for well over a decade, with plenty of posts.... hopefully just a tick box somewhere that needs ticking? Would love to be able to...

Long term sure! Not for now, just want to get it running!

Thread size help - 304 Accelerator Bracket to Intake

Success! Tried my M6 bolts again, but they weren't interested in going in at all. So I ran the M6 x 1.0 tap down the threads just to clean them up, and we're back in business... Again - thanks for the accurate replies, made my life much easier, greatly appreciated.

    VS temp gauge

Agreed - either dirty connection or sticky dash needle. I've had both.

Thread size help - 304 Accelerator Bracket to Intake

Yeah I thought M6 too - of which I have plenty of brand new bolts at hand (that's what I used for the engine covers amongst other things), however they get tight about half a turn in (it could also mean my threads are not crash hot). If I can't sort it - the tap might have to come out! I've...

Thread size help - 304 Accelerator Bracket to Intake

I'm continuing to piece back together my jigsaw puzzle project car. It's progressing well. Can't find any bolts to mount the accelerator bracket onto the intake manifold, so it's off to the bolt shop, but I can't even find odd bolts lying around that fit. Are these metric or imperial? Does...

    VR Fuel Damper

As an example, I found this Mackay one on ebay - listed as VL 3.0 - which would be EFI... Not a fan of the price though. Would be keen to hear if anyone knows of any part numbers relevant to VR / VS 304s...

    VR Fuel Damper

I read this question as meaning - are the curved fuel hoses still available new? I'd like to know this too - have been browsing around, but haven't seen anything. Both the fuel damper to fuel rail hose, and fuel reg to firewall return pipe (VR 304). I'm just using standard EFI fuel hose, and...

    VR Fuel Damper

I searched around for new factory ones a while back - with no joy. Not sure if there's any kind of generic replacement these days (again, didn't find anything in my searching). Might be a case of hitting up a local wrecker and taking a punt (try to find a low km car)?

    Charcoal Cannister Health Check

Ok folks, if you've ever wondered exactly how these carbon/charcoal cannisters work - have a look at this short Youtube video - what a perfect overview.... I've always looked at these cannisters as being dumb/idle equipment - but that's certainly not the case... Once an appropriate vacuum is...

    Charcoal Cannister Health Check

Ok, odd question I know.... the below charcoal cannister is from a VR 5 litre Calais. Looking to re-install onto the car. Previous owner had left it in a box of spare parts and the ports were blocked with dirt. I've cleaned them out with wire.... but looking to understand how this works before...

304 Replacement Rocker Cover Bolt Sets

Should have also mentioned - I got the stainless bolts for the fuel rails from holdspares too.

304 Replacement Rocker Cover Bolt Sets

Correct - vacuum ports are: 1. Fuel pressure reg (small one on left) - FYI - I used 4mm ID vac hose; 2. MAP sensor (larger one on right) - FYI - I used 6.5mm ID vac hose I'm still putting this thing back together, working it all out as I go. Previous owner had left a massive mess - lots of...

304 acl inlet manifold gasket.. Confused

Interestingly, whilst browsing ebay - I found a seller who has listed brand new old stock GMH gaskets (at $190 the pair mind you!) - which look identical.....

304 acl inlet manifold gasket.. Confused

10 years on - time to dig up an old thread! I'm currently piecing back together a 304 of my own and have come across this exact same scenario as above. Mine's an incomplete project car, that came with brand new (unknown brand) gaskets - see below: The intake ports all have complete seals (what...

    VR V8 caprice over fuelling

You mention it has a "Bobs hot up chip" - alongside the long list of mods (primarily being the big cam, bigger injectors etc). There's a good chance it's running filthy rich from whatever tune is in that chip. If that's the case, swapping parts won't fix your problem. I'd be getting a...

304 Replacement Rocker Cover Bolt Sets

Yeah agreed, I think the stainless set looks fantastic. Since I don't have anything as a starting point, I'll take a punt and give it a crack.

304 Replacement Rocker Cover Bolt Sets

Chasing a full bolt set (including washers/seals) to suit the factory 304 rocker covers. Keen on brand new. I found an old post in the SHYGMH thread showing part numbers for ARP gear (and they do look awesome) - but I'm after a simpler/more factory solution. Currently looking at ebay seller...

304 Intake Manifold - Sealing Leaking Outlet Pipe

Yeah I'd thought about that too - previous owner potentially fighting crappy old hoses etc... definitely a strong possibility.

304 Intake Manifold - Sealing Leaking Outlet Pipe

I'm in the process of piecing back together a jigsaw puzzle (304 VR). Purchased in pieces. I'm about to put the intake manifold back on.... Prior to cleaning it up - I observed silicone around the base of this pipe - can only assume there may have been a leak. No info or history from previous...

What Thermo fans are best for 304 v8?

I really like the AU fans too, this is what I run on the Torana. From memory I installed them upside down for a neater look. Incredible airflow. I think AU, VT and the Mondeo fans - as listed above are all very similar as far as size goes... any of them should do the job. Need to look at this...

    VR V8 IRS - Identifying rear bushes/adjustable?

Excellent, another mystery solved. To get the car running I'll just make sure they're nipped up tight for now... and then will have a pro alignment done in due course. Thanks for the detailed description of how they work!

    Replacement fuel tank strap rubber

Finally got this tank back into the car. End result wasn't perfect, but happy enough. Keeping in mind when I removed this tank, the straps never had rubber previously (whether or not they did from factory though is anyone's guess). This one's a 5litre VR Calais. I may have added rubber where...

    VR V8 IRS - Identifying rear bushes/adjustable?

The joys of project cars. I'm working my way through bringing a VR 5litre Calais back to life. The previous owner has replaced most of the bushes throughout this car.... What I'm curious to understand is - are these rear IRS bushes as per standard/factory - or are these some kind of adjustable...

    Replacement fuel tank strap rubber

Had zero luck sourcing any factory style rubber with the nice folded over edges, so ended up running with flat rubber sourced from Clark Rubber... For anyone interested.... Starting point: Clark Rubber flat 75mm x 1.5mm The recesses in the tank where the straps go, measure at 64mm, so I cut...

    What's broken?

I’ll also put my money on the tailshaft / driveshaft centre bearing. Have experienced similar symptoms when ours went. It can feel quite violent, and primarily present when under load. Have a good look at it, and don’t be shy giving it a good wiggle. I know Pedders cop a bad rap sometimes, but...

Help with VS V8 Distributor Purchase Recommendation

I'm a bit late to this thread, but for what it’s worth: The majority of my following comments relate to Small-Block Chev V8s - but should directly apply to VN-VS stuff too; 1. You can buy brand new ‘Road Star’ distributors on eBay out of NSW. Incredibly cheap. I was chatting to the lads at...

    Replacement fuel tank strap rubber

Hi all, Couldn't find any other threads on this, so thought I'd ask - what's everyone use these days for new rubber to suit fuel tank straps? I'm preparing to re-install a long range V8 tank with IRS rear into a VR Calais. I've had the original straps powder-coated satin black. When removed...

    Fuel tank breather lines.

I thought some people might find this useful - Rare Spares have recently released a new product: #EMH1000 - Fuel Tank Emission Hose Fitting Kit for VN VP VQ VR VS sedan models. I'm about to give it a try on my 5 litre VR Calais.... will report back once I've had a crack at it... It's a...
