    VR - Clear Side Indicators

$20 a pair - you'd be handling stolen goods. Kid on a bike came and stole mine (including orange globes) off my WH. Neighbours caught him and the little runt gave them the story he was looking for his dog RIGHT NEAR MY FRONT GUARDS. Why don't you ask for them for free because that's how much...

1 less Stato on the Road

Yeah that was the only good news. No whiplash whatsoever. She did see the car coming from behind at the last second so she was able to brace herself in time. I spoke with the assessor and he confirmed it is an economic writeoff, or in his words "the meat in a metal sandwich". Damage came to...

1 less Stato on the Road

My wife was driving my VSII Statesman last night and was in the middle of a 3 car sandwich on the freeway. She was fine, no airbags went off and she didn't wake up this morning with whiplash or anything else. So that's good news. Her car was hit in the rear and cannoned into the car in front...

    engine light

If you've got a series 2 VT, and you haven't noticed any change in idle or shifting it will most likely be a faulty oil pressure switch. And unfortunately only Tech2 gear can read and clear the fault. Very common failure on the LS1. If you've got a series 1 VT forget what I said, you can grab...

    Can't extract error codes

BOGANV8 is correct, series 2 will have the LS1, which means it requires a Tech2. Doesn't necessarily have to be a Holden dealer though, any mechanic worth his salt will also have the right gear.

    VX 10-stack CD player question.

To reset the micrcomputer in the headunit press and hold the OFF button for longer than 6 seconds. That will reset the fault code.

    VX 10-stack CD player question.

There's a micro reset on the headunit. I haven't done it for about 18 months, so I'll have a look in the handbook tonight on how to do it. And like others have said, it doesn't play MP3 CD's so stop doing it!!

    Bonnet and boot gas struts

I like your thinking but I imagine mods to the parcel shelf would require an engineers certificate. Slim, maybe I've got a rare one, but when I pop the boot lock on any slope on my VC it rises to attention like the early morning todger. Maybe the extra trim on the VK boot is enough to upset...

What fuel are you using? VB - VK

Mobil 8000 with Flashlube valve additive. Only gets fuel top ups a few times a year due to low usage of the car, but no pinging at any stage. Been told premium only has a shelf-life of 2 weeks - how would I know it has gone bad in my tank?

    Commy Order:::Worst to best

Yep, the L was the base model on the VC. The base model VB had just "Commodore", no other letter designation.

    Changing brake fluid

Yep, can be a real pain. I jack the car up and pull the wheels off to get good access to the bleed nipple. The wife operating the brake pedal is about the only work she does on the car all year (even then she still whinges about it!!).

Intermittent Powertrain Light on Gen3 V8

You were spot on the money BOGANV8, your first pic told the story - the PCV hose split right near the throttle body. It's a bad design and without a 45 degree elbow there it's under a lot of stress. Anyway, came up with fault codes P0171 and P0174 (left and right bank running lean). It was an...

Intermittent Powertrain Light on Gen3 V8

Thanks for that guys. I'm leaning towards oxygen sensors throwing a fault code due to a vacuum leak in the PCV hose. The last couple of weeks I've had a slight rev drop at idle when applying the brakes around about when the thermostat opens up (ie engine up at operating temperature). Strange...

Intermittent Powertrain Light on Gen3 V8

The last week or so the powertrain light has been coming on every few days, and last Friday was remaining on for about 5 minutes, off for 1 minute, then back on and repeated like that for half an hour. Turned car off and back on and light still on. Today the light didn't come on at all during my...

What is the stupidest thing you have heard someone say?

Had a Russian engineering lecturer. Her favourite question was, "How do you think why?" Well if I knew that I'd be a neurosurgeon!!! I'm reliably informed it's the direct translation into English for "Why is it so?" but the translation stops you in your tracks!! Also, had a nutter in uni...

    Post your underhood "battery" pics

My old man got 10 years out of the factory battery in his Lite-Ace, only pulled it out because he was thinking it must be ready to start having problems (still kept it as a spare though!!). On the flipside of the coin, when I bought my WH it was 3 years old with original battery - car would...

    Those A Pillars - Dangerous!

I'm fortunate that I own a car from all 3 previous generations of the commodore: VC, VS and WH so it's easy to compare the changes over the last 30 years. When I hop in the VC, the windscreen is far more vertical and the A pillar is rakishly thin = fantastic vision. The VS has a slightly more...

VS Caprice wont start - Code 46?

I'll take a punt it's the Hall effect switch playing up inside the dizzy. In the EFI V8 it performs a similar role to the CAS in the V6.

Do you have a drivers airbag? I can't remember if it was standard in the VR exec.

    What car would you buy?

I can't believe grave diggers are still digging up this crusty old thread!! Especially those telling me to go to the dark side!! I ended up buying a WHII V8 Stato in April 2005. A year down the track I know I'm happy to say I've chosen the right car.

    Vn v8

A P-plater in a V8 VS stato last night decided he'd race me at the lights (I was in my WH V8 on my way home from work and seeing the V8 badge he must have assumed I was an idiot as well). I detest street racing and will never do it. He tore off at the lights, losing traction through the...

Lucky people. One of my investments doesn't do the tax statement until September. Same deal every year, nothing I can do about it. So no money back until probably October.

injected 5 litre in a vc

From memory I believe the fuel filler neck also needs to be changed to accept the smaller sized unleaded nozzle. But with the phaseout of the older leaded size pumps that may not be an issue provided legislation is up to date with reality. All emissions (including cats) would need to be up to...

    Battery Light Question (common issue)

As above. Probably regulator bushes worn too far, or the regulator itself is kaputski. Directions: Disconnect the battery and unscrew the regulator & brush assy from the rear of the alternator. Check the travel length of the brushes (minimum is supposed to be 4mm but it can start failing well...

    Microsleeps

That's the problem with it, it's an unconscious thing. For the mild sufferers the brain briefly arouses during sleep to clear the blocked airway, but sleep is fragmented. The sufferer is never aware of it, apart from unexplained tiredness, or a sore throat. There's a few other symptoms but...

    Microsleeps

Definitely get it checked out by a specialist. A mate of mine suffered from narcolepsy, which is probably the extreme form of what you describe. That's where you go into deep sleep (not just a microsleep) at the drop of a hat. Wrote his car off once, was lucky to survive and doesn't drive...

    Finally Finished My Toy

Ok, the real story is that after it rolled off the production line you had it stored in a container for over 20 years. Now you've decided to pull it out, dust off the cobwebs and show us. Seriously, that is a fantastic job. Looks absolulely stunning. Can we see some shots of the engine bay...

If you're talking about the door snib, just lever out the little orange tab, undo the screw behind it and the snib will easily pop off. Door trim will slide off easily now.

    Rust?

Nah, it didn't launch them, it was the boat!! That's an extensive rust list, must have spent its life right near the sea.
  36. Demons1964

    Rust?

If you're concerned about rust that may have been bogged over, grab a magnet. Bog is porous so any moisture getting onto that will rust out the underlying unprotected steel. So if the magnet grips there's no bog there. If it doesn't a repair has been done there with bog and that's a likely...

2009 Camaro Gets Starring Role in New Movie!!!

I'm a huge transformers fan, and yep fair to say some of the fanboys aren't happy. But they're more concerned about the voice of G1 Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen - who's the one that every kid of the 80's would remember) not getting the gig for the movie. And also the movie being the story of a...

    Your worst accident

On student exhange in 1992 I was with my mate and his Dad in northern Wyoming USA cutting down pine trees for firewood. You got $1200? "BIG surprise" is the understatement of the year!! That's more than the car would be valued at on the open market. I was going to suggest you check with your insurance company, because most third party policies (in Australia anyway) will cover you in the event that an accident...
