Cheers, I'll give them a call.

Where to buy heater core [Sydney]

I've finally decided to get up off my arse and change the heater core in my VR commodore exec. To save time and effort I think I'll just do it the easy way I've seen on the forum and just cut the pipes and slide in the new unit. Now I just need to figure out where to get the heater core from...

    h/u recommendation and amplification

The cheapest Clarion unit that matches your needs is this one: http://clarion.com/au/en/products/2006/audio/source_units/cd/DXZ466MP/au-en-product-pf_1139306869855.html However, RRP is $349, so I doubt you're going to get it for too much less than $300. If it were me, I'd save the extra $100...

    after a good cheap sub

The 12" Pioneer W306C can be had for around $100, and has a good reputation. I've personally only heard the model preceding it (305c), but it sounded quite good and loud for the money. Rockford P1 12" can also be had for around that price, these are also a good sounding budget sub IMO. I ran...

Broken Heater and Air Conditioning (VR exec)

Okay I've done some reading of old posts about changing the heater core. Looks like if you do it the proper way you have to have the air-con degassed. Sounds like a pain in the arse. I've already pulled the dash apart a few times changing the stereo around. I guess I'll do it the dodgy way by...

Broken Heater and Air Conditioning (VR exec)

As the title says, my heater doesn't work and neither does my air con. I've had a quote from a local mechanic and he reckons it will be about $600 for the heater core and another $300 or so for the air con. In other words, almost a third of the value of the car just to get these fixed. Does...

car audio stores around Olympic Park area in syd?

Another vote for Precision, heard nothing but good things about them and they did a great job on my friend's boot. Also a vote against Lifestyle. I've seen nothing but dodgy work and high prices from them, including hacking up my door pods, breaking a mates Type-R woofer (cracked basket)...

Good Buy You Tell Me ??

Yup just buy it. And in the time it takes you to save up for the amp, box and wiring you can learn how to make a box and do the installation yourself. It's really not that hard, it just requires a little research, planning and patience. There's plenty of good advice on these forums if you get...

    Audio System

As above, try and have a listen to the speakers that you're interested in. A car audio specialist store is a good place to start doing this. The lower end focals sound quite nice to me, but I haven't heard any Pioneers so I can't compare them. Basically, just try to listen to as many different...

Very nice boot install - neat and tidy. I like it. Definitely worth $600.

    clarion good or not

I've always liked Clarion as a brand, for some reason, probably goes back to the fact that the first really good system I heard was mostly Clarion. Head units are very good and they're amps aren't bad for the money.

    Orange Headunit

I know some of the Alpines have changeable colours. My 9831 does, not sure about which of the current models do. The main buttons have 512 colours, and the rest of the backlights can be green or orange. Not completely sure, but I seem to remember some Blaupunkt HUs having an orange backlight.

    speakers losing magnetism

Maybe you're getting stronger. Have you been eating more? It's a really interesting question, can't say I know the answer though.

    Bassy 6"

Have you tried sealing and sound deadening your doors? Made a pretty big improvement in my VR, and costs less than a speaker upgrade. Bout $120 total.

Taking the treble out my sub??

Your amp should have a filter on it, called a low pass filter. Set it to ~80Hz.

    Headunits of the Moment

Oh yeah just to add, if you get the 9965 you're gonna have to get an amp because it doesn't have an internal one.

    Headunits of the Moment

From that list the 9857 probably isn't your best bet if you didn't like the 9831. It's actually got less sound adjustment features, i.e. no HPF/LPF, no parametric EQ, no time alignment. But it does have a nicer screen and better ipod connectivity. Still, it's more of a step sideways than a step...

    Headunits of the Moment

MXpander is pretty useless, agreed. It's pretty much a glorified "loud" button. Do you know how to use EQ properly? I still think you should be able to get some decent sound out of the 9831 if you spend a bit of time with it. $200 is insanely cheap for that unit, I think they retailed for $799...

    Headunits of the Moment

Just to clarify, you had an Alpine 9831 but didn't like it? What was the older model that you liked better? What specifically didn't you like about it? Just wondering because I'm running that unit at the moment and I'm really happy with it. 4ch time alignment, 4-band parametric EQ, 3 pre-outs...

    The monkeys at JB Hi-FI

Holy crap! Now that's dodgy! If you've still got the receipt I'd be going back there for some form of compensation. Trouble is it's going to be hard to prove, and they can just deny it. A friend of mine had some reasonably expensive speakers broken (cracked basket) by the tools at Lifestyle...

    Secure your sub.

Glad to hear that they didn't get everything, and sorry to hear that your car was broken into. I think you got pretty lucky though, if they really wanted your sub they could've just taken it out of the box. Same goes for the amp. It's only ~12 screws.

    JC Official eBay rant thread

You never know, you might still be okay. A friend of mine had a similar thing happen with about $750 worth of computer equipment. Turned out the guy had been hospital, refunded the money when he got out. Still MAJORLY annoying though, I feel sorry for ya. Good luck!

    MB-Quart Speakers

Yup, used to have the tweets mounted in the kick panels with no attenuation, but when I moved them up under the windshield I had to calm them down a bit. There is a Malaysian seller on Ebay flogging the premiums for $220. I agree that this price is too good to be true and the speakers are quite...

    MB-Quart Speakers

I've got the DSE 216's in my VR, with the tweets mounted in the stock locations and set at -6dB. Personally, I'm quite happy with them and don't find them overly bright. The mid range is very strong and they do play quite loud. By all accounts the MBQ speakers have a fairly similar sound...

    Alpine 9853R H/U Clock

Is there a button above the dial that says "title"? If there is, pressing it changes what's being displayed. One of the options is the clock. I'm not 100% certain, but that's how it is on my 9831, which is pretty similar.

    JayCar and Splits?

If the Jaycar splits are as good as everyone says, may as well put them in the back as well as they're not really that much more expensive than coax's. I've only heard the speakers in the shop, but they did sound pretty good.

Can i see some pics of a VR/VS sub setup in the boot

Like you suggested I think the thief would either A: Get the shits and break everything they could or B: Think that the equipment must be good if you've gone to so much effort to protect it, and just steal the whole car instead. Still a very nice effort though, and should hopefully...

    Perfect Rock Sound System

Hey, Personally, I think a sub is helpful unless you have a lot of money to spend. Size isn't really all that important, just as long as it's not crap. Sealed box may sound better, maybe not, it's a matter of taste really. I listen to a lot of rock and I find my sub sounds as good in its...

    Audio Volume

Day time, it's normally softer on the way there, louder on the way back. Night time it's normally louder on the way there, softer on the way back. As a general rule anyway. It all depends on my mood and the style of music being played. One thing I stand by though is never playing loud...

    alpine s series

I've only heard the 6" splits and coaxials, and I think they sound absolutely terrible. Really, really average compared to similarly priced speakers. But hey, that could just be me.

    remote key

Hmm... I took my VR key apart for fun when I got the car, took the batteries out and had a general look around. It works fine I didn't even think anything of it. It's a series I though, maybe that's got something to do with it?
