Unless you already have a VE, I don't see this as a viable option. With slight modifications to the VT, you will be able to use the GTS gear. Far cheaper to do than the above quote.

Are you sure they were 7" rears and not 8" rears? i thought 235 were max for a 7". I remember i had 14x7 (12 slotters) on the front of my XY and was running 235's 60 series. Rears were 8" running 295's.

I guess you are. This looks better than a HSV variant of the same model. I own 2 HSV's (VYClubsport/VEMaloo) yet i think there's nothing overly special about them. It's just a gimmick and a badge away. Car looks tops btw REDVESS.

Bin them and get some stainless steel ones. Or Very fine wet/dry sandpaper then buff/polish. I'd go with option 1 personally.

Which is quite silly really reason being you can still pop the boot via the key even though the rest of the car is deadlocked.
