    Engine swap

I think the rear one is a heater circuit connection. The front one is a bypass hose to circulate coolant where it's needed while the thermostat is closed. Front heater connection comes sideways out of the top of the waterpump. I think.

How do I get this relay out?

Thanks Mike. I found a fuse under the bonnet for the blower and it checked ok with the multimeter. I guess I should have a close look at all the connections to the fuses and relays but I didn't see any sign of heat damage or arcing.

How do I get this relay out?

Thanks guys, for the replies. I did get the relay out. Did a bit of cleaning, applied a small amount of carbon grease. Swapped some relays around and the blower still doesn't work on 4. Checked the blower fuse under the bonnet too.

How do I get this relay out?

Hi fellers, I appreciate the replies but you didn't answer my questions completely. Does the relay pull away from the firewall or does it lift up towards the steering column. AND is there a barb that needs to be released?

How do I get this relay out?

Hi All, I am trying to remove the relay for the cabin fan and it doesn't want to budge. Is there a trick to removing it? Does it pull out away from the firewall or lift up? It is one of the relays located under the steering column. Moderator, Sorry if this is considered a double post but I...

Cabin fan not working on 4

Hi Gentlemen, I am finally catching up on a few jobs and trying to check the relay for the cabin fan blower as I was directed to above. Is there a trick to pulling the relay out. It's the relay in the C position under the steering column. Thanks guys.

Cabin fan not working on 4

Hi All. as title says the interior fan doesn't work on 4. Works on 3. What does this mean? When it's the resistor it's meant to be the other way round! I know that I have a newer style resistor in the car.

Need help with a question about interchangeable parts

I'm not 100% sure but I would think the plenum cover from VN series 1 to VP series 2 would all be interchangeable. I don't know about VR to VS.

    High beam fuse problem

I've only done a few short night time drives and haven't been out on the open road so only briefly using high beam. The headlights do seem brighter on high beam though. I've had the same bulbs in for over 10 years and I forget what power they are.

    High beam fuse problem

Thanks for the reply Mike. However I doubt that it's a short. More likely that the contacts on the fuse and holder have corroded and created resistance and therefore heat. I've put in a free standing fuse holder and lights are working again. Fingers crossed it's all good.

    High beam fuse problem

My highbeam stopped working. Lights weren't on at the time. I located the fuse but it won't come out. Something is melted. Any tips on getting the fuse out without destroying the fuse holder and then fixing it so it doesn't happen again? Haven't changed any headlight bulbs in years and no probs...

VN Commodore V6 to V8 Front brake conversion.

I believe the VN V8 brakes became standard on the VP somewhere along the line so I can confirm that the VT upgrade was a huge improvement over the VP series 2 brakes that were originally fitted.

    Vp commodore fuel surging

Have you checked the pressure regulator vacuum hose that connects from the regulator body to the throttle body? Pull the hose off and sniff it. If it smells of petrol then the vellum in the fuel pressure regulator has failed. I don't know if this could explain the surging problem (I don't really...

Rear engine (transmission) mount on a VP V6.

There is at least 2 styles of rear engine mount offered for my ride. I replaced all engine mounts a while ago and now have this style in the rear: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/142545822856?fits=Plat_Gen%3AVP%7CModel%3ACommodore&epid=251884094&hash=item213064a488:g:4YUAAOSwcJhf25Ug The one I...

    Balance shaft diagnosis

Tailshaft to Daniel Engineering in Wollongong on Monday. They corrected uni phasing and re-balanced shaft. Re-installed and vibration(s) pretty much gone. To be honest the roads are so potholed and damaged after months of rain that it takes quite a bit of driving to really check it out but I've...

    Balance shaft diagnosis

I think I'm going to take the tailshaft out and get it balanced, 1. because it seems the most likely culprit and 2. because it's relatively cheap and will either get rid of the vibrations or eliminate it as a source. I threw on a different set of back tyres and vibration was still present

    Balance shaft diagnosis

Finally had time to go for a decent drive on a quiet open road without too many potholes. On several long downhill stretches I put the car into neutral and coasted with the speed dropping slowly from about 100kph. The vibrations I have felt at different speeds under load could ALL be felt with...

    VN to VT brake conversion

Does that include the master cylinder, booster and modified bracket?
  24. V

    VN to VT brake conversion

Yes. I have a VT brake conversion on my VP with the VT standard size (196mm, I think) rotors and VT calipers. I am running 15" x 7" CSA rims over them. You wouldn't fit the bigger VT rotors (about 330mm) under 15" rims but the standard VT rotors (with a VT master and booster) is waaaaay better...

    Balance shaft diagnosis

I don't WANT to work on the motor. I am trying to track down a vibration. A mechanic has pointed to the balance shaft. I am not convinced this is the problem, partly because of the question you asked. I appreciate the input from members on this forum. As far as I know my wheel bearings are ok.

    Balance shaft diagnosis

Does the sump really need to come off to disable the balance shaft? I've had a search but haven't found a how to on doing this.
  27. V

    Balance shaft diagnosis

That's a good and logical question Mike. My impression is that it is speed (or wheel) related rather than engine speed. If that's the case it presumably rules out the balance shaft? Next drive I'll shift between 3rd and 4th and see if that makes a difference to the vibration. If no difference...

    Balance shaft diagnosis

Thanks Losh and Immortality. Engine mounts are new, tyres were balanced just before the mech drove the car (to eliminate them as a cause), drive shaft has just had new centre bearing and CV join fitted and spins true on the hoist. I thought the centre bearing was going to be the cause of the...

    Balance shaft diagnosis

Hi Guys, My V6 VP has developed a quite strong vibration under load, most noticeable in the 60 - 85 km/hr speed range. My mech thought it might be the torque converter but an engine and transmission guy has driven the car (without me in it) and says it is the balance shaft. Can I just...

    Drive shaft centre bearing woes

Chasing a vibration which is most noticeable under load I found the driveshaft centre bearing is free to bounce around in the bracket it is mounted in. I had the bearing replaced, I guess about 2 years ago so disappointed it hasn't lasted longer. When I look at replacement bearings on-line they...

    Aircon compressor take 2

So the bearing on the compressor doesn't feel obviously bad but what I did notice is that the outer edge of the clutch face is pretty oily. I'm wondering if that is a sign of gas and oil escaping from the compressor.

    V6 tension pulley bearing

Hi All, I have a post running re the aircon compressor and bearing noise. I think my tension pulley bearing is noisy too and is contributing to the general noise. I have a metal pulley version. Can the bearing be changed and, if so, does anyone have the part number?

    Aircon compressor take 2

Thanks for the replies. I don't believe they did check for levels of gas and/or oil in the aircon system. Having misdiagnosed the problem and put in and then taken out an exchange power steer pump and not charging me for that time they were probably wanting me out of there. But aircon is one of...

    Aircon compressor take 2

Having fitted an exchange power steer pump without getting rid of the whine the mechanic shop now agrees with my original diagnosis that the noise is coming from the aircon compressor. So how hard is it to replace the bearing (and clutch) on the original unit. It is still pumping cold air...

    Aircon compressors?

Is Saganaw the original manufacture? At this stage I’m getting a locally remanufactured for $190 but I don’t know if it’s a Saganaw. I did see after market replacements for a lower price including one that offered a 5 year warranty from within Aus but my mechanics said they would fit it but any...

    Aircon compressors?

Thanks guys. Yes it is still pumping cold air. She's at the mech's now confirming the diagnosis so I should know more later today. Good to know that replacing the clutch and bearing is an option. Thanks Losh.
