    Headlights

I have a VE Omega, 2010 - I don't know if other VEs are different. there are two adjusters on each headlight unit - horizontal and vertical. The adjusters be difficult to see: they are white. You use a medium phillips screwdriver. The relationship between high and low beams is fixed - you...

    Bloody radiator cap

I've had my VE for 4.5 years, and have not had coolant issues. But my VZ - 3.6L Alloytec - had a few problems over the years. After a bit of down-time beside lonely roads, I kept a spare cap. So, I agree with Sean. The tricks are that the cooling system is not intended to be...

how to Service & change oil for 6sp transmission VE commodore 2010 series 2, 3 ltr

I commend Sean's detailed answer. There is an older thread that also traverses the same question. Some observations, having done the oil change last week, for the first time on my VE. Most of the work was done by my mechanically-minded nephew. We ran the car up on ramps. After removing the sump...

VZ have a chronic problem with the "radiator" cap. For $25, I kept a spare one handy, and a big bottle of coolant.

    Vz a/c

the air-con on my VZ Executive stopped working suddenly (just south of Cloncurry) - a real bugger on a long trip. Went to an auto-electrician, who had a good reputation for being handy with air-con, and he had it sorted in minutes for $40 - he said the VZ has a common and recurring problem...

    VE rear seat belt problem

I've looked at previous threads - nothing quite on point. 2010 omega sedan - rear seat belt, left-hand side, gets a fair bit of use, as I have two kids. They tell me a few days ago that it won't work any more. The upper part is fine. When inserting the tab into the slot, there is only...

ve 3.0L black crap on rear bar

early 3.0 used about 1.0 litre of engine oil per 10,000 km. I never found a leak, so I guess that it was going out the exhaust, but I never found any "crap" around the exhaust. If you trawl old threads, you note that several JC contributors reported the problem. I had to have an engine-swap...

    Outrageous fuel consumption

I've never found factory trip-computers to be reliable. I'd suggest that you do as Gossie suggests. When you've got the real numbers, you'll know how serious the problem is. I use a free App on my phone, called "Fuel Log" - I just put the data in, and it does the sums. My 2010 3.0 litre, with...

Movies Coming Out Soon - Now Discussion Thread

I recently saw "The Equalizer", and "The Judge" - both very good. Regarding other flicks mentioned above - I saw "Taken", and enjoyed it. So, I paid my money to see "Taken 2", but there was an enormous plot-hole that ruined it for me. So, I won't pay for "Taken 3" - I'll get a $1 DVD of...

    VZ with VE wheels

if you trawl through the older threads, &/or use the "search" function, you'll find numerous threads on this subject. There are two opinions - one that says that tampering with VE rims is ok; and the other. If you're considering steel wheels - you'll notice that the steel is reinforced at...

Omega VE Sportwagon MY10 3.0L engine issues - need your advice

VK Turbo - when I last wrote on this thread, 14 months ago, I was very happy with my 3.0 SIDI. I've done 38,000 since then - with nothing more than routine maintenance. I'm still very happy with it, and have no plans to replace it any time soon Come Xmas, I intend to do my family pilgrimage -...

    ve fuel tank sizes

VK Turbo: when Holden released the SIDI in 2009, they made two claims in their advertising - that the 3.0 Litre would get 900km; and that it would get from Sydney to Melbourne without refuelling - clearly, GM has a different atlas to the rest of us. Anyway, my best from a full tank was 898 km...

thankyou Pir4te - never heard of the "Fast TAP Re-learn" - sounds like I might try it on my kids too ! Suspension. Ve

Dan, I drive through the Isa twice a year (Melbourne to Darwin), and I share your pain. My Omega had FE2 (ex-Police car). I was heartily sick of speed humps in Darwin, and if I had passengers, I'd scrape in my own driveway. But the bigger issue was the Landsborough Highway - I love the trip; I...

    VE jerking on take off

I also have the 3.0 L SIDI, with 6-speed auto. Last year, there were problems with the tranny. A full service (not an el-cheapo) made an enormous difference. Your difficulties now sound similar to mine then. So, my question is - how long since your tranny was serviced ?

    Crazy question looking for answer

I see that you're from Rhodes: I spent a few weeks there in 1987 - had a ball. When I was walking around the Old City one day, I saw a Holden HD ute (circa 1965) parked on the street in all its right hand drive glory. I didn't meet the owner, but I'll guess that he had owned it in Oz, and...

How easy to change headlight globes on a VE Calais?

if it's upside down, you beam will be way out of alignment. the only answer is to unclip the bulb and rotate it, and re-clip it. It goes in easier, if it's the correct way.

    Pulsing sound when braking

no, I didn't do them myself. A mate with a well equipped shed behind his house - replaced the four rotors; flushed the brake fluid; and changed the rear pads - he & I were both in a hurry - I supplied the parts; the jobs took 61 minutes, and I gave him 100 cash. That was 20,000 km ago - no...

How easy to change headlight globes on a VE Calais?

quote "It's a 5min job with small hands and if you don't drop anything" - ha ! the trick that I learned is that it's pretty easy to put the new bulb in upside-down, which makes focussing them afterward particularly tricky ... my electrician mate tells me that the first thing to do when an appliance, phone, etc is immersed, is to get the battery out, to reduce damage from shorting. Will 16 inch wheels fit on ve sv6

I have an Omega, with 16" wheels. My understanding is that the SV6 has larger brake callipers than an Omega, and you need 18" to fit. I'm a pensioner, so things are permanently tight for me. I buy good brand tyres, but second hand. A set of four 16" Bridgestones, 70%+ tread, including...

    Pulsing sound when braking

Last two sets of rotors that I've purchased for my Omega - brand new; genuine GMH - cost me $80, and $78 respectively, for a set of four. Picked them both up when I was passing through Melbourne, thanks to Ebay. How much would I have saved if I had machined my old ones ?

What is the right process to bleed brakes, Is scan tool required to bleed ABS system?

When my mechanic bled my Omega, he did it the way Ncass11 described: no scantool; with me pumping the pedal. Used exactly 1.0 litre of fluid. That was 18,00 km ago - zero problems.

"SERVICE VEHICLE SOON" automatically pops up 15,000 after it was last reset - in reality it means nothing. Mine is flashing now, and will continue to flash until I get ready for my next big trip (December). Only other warning I've had was "CHECK ENGINE" - when my oil was half a bee's dick...

and so, back to tyres - When I got my licence, long ago, my brother (much older than I) advised me: "Money spent on good tyres is never wasted". I always preferred to get Australian tyres - when I was young, I started on Beaurepaire's Olympics - they were fine. When they disappeared from the...

    VE transmission noise

I have a 3.0, with 6-speed auto, whereas you have an SV6/2 - so, perhaps what I say is not strictly relevant. Cooling system help, am I overreacting?

haven't had any problems with the cooling system in my VE, in the 115,000km that I've had it. But my 3.6 VZ had several episodes - and every time, the solution was a new $25 radiator cap. Update on sidi oil consumption

I have a VE series 1, 3.0L, 6-speed auto. It was manufactured in Feb 2010, and I bought it at auction in Dec 2010 - it already had 67,000 km on the odo. Until it got upto 110,000 km, it was losing (using ?) oil at the rate of 1.0 litre per 10,000 km. I never found any smoke; nor blackening...
