The only thing I can think off that it might be that hasn't been replaced it the hall effect sensor in the dizzy. Replace the whole dizzy with an ebay jobber for about $85 and see how it goes.

Yeah make sure all your vac line are hooked up correctly and the O2 sensor is working. It can over fuel the car if eitheof those two are stuffed, and it will foul the plugs. Happened to me not long ago.

Can you actually confirm the car is even falling into diagnostics mode? Sounds like to me it isn't for some reason. The car needs to be warmed up, then pins 5 and 6 bridged for the base timing to be set, remove pins and away you go.

Sounds like you are setting the base timing not in diagnostics mode, or its already in diagnostics mode. Make sure the previous owner didn't hook up his own switch to bridge the two wires needed to test for codes ect. You do know you can just time it 10 degrees and by turning the dizzy and...

Great to hear that its running. When you say its not advancing, do you mean you cant turn the dizzy to advance it? Just remember the base timing has to be set at about 10 degrees before TDC with the car in diagnostics mode.

The chances of getting an exemption because you "want" and V8 are 3/5th of f**K all. Wait it out like everyone else.

The input drum of 1st and 2nd will need a rebuild by the sounds of it. Id say around $600 if you took it to him out of the car. Id buy a 2nd hand one from a wreck and throw it in, or use a v6 one and change out the input shaft.

No, the whole K frame need replacing. Its about 6 bolts and takes under 20 mins to change one out.

Yeah sounds like the HES. I find it easier and quicker to remove the inlet manifold, once I did it with the manifold in place and when I reisalled it I was a tooth out. So it took me longer in the end. I have head of people removing the gearbox from the Xmember and jacking the box up slightly...

Well it would be cheaper if you're getting a T5 that hasn't been rebuilt. I was given a 4l60e once, and I bought a T700 auto for $50, so in that regard its cheaper to stick with the Auto. There are HEAPS of write ups on here about 5 speed conversions.

The flex plates in these things are renown for cracking. Might be that, but it should be clear as day outside the car. Is the noise there when its in park and you give it a boot full? Or is it just when its under load?
