    Windscreen wipers.

I clay bar the windscreen and replace blades (Costco/Michelin) each year before our mid-year road trip.

    How thick is this?

Indeed. Once upon a time I would have just gone ahead and replaced the aluminium bar with a piece of 3 x 2 and nailed the bracket to it. Times change... Anyhoo, to answer a few other q's that have popped up in the thread, my original plan (6 years ago) was to mount a lightbar behind the...

There's a big crash repair establishment not far from me. I'll run it past them in the morning.

    How thick is this?

Great! Thanks so much for taking the time to contribute. Plan 'B' was looking like rope, glue and plywood with a measure of asbestos thrown in to make it really dodgy. I'll tell 'A' to get their coat. Cheers...

    How thick is this?

Perfect! Thanks for reply. I had a feeling it wasn't just a matter of drilling a couple of holes. I didn't know about the washer bottle but was concerned about structural integrity. I'll look for a 'Plan B' Cheers

Anyone know how thick this support/brace/whatever is? I want to insert a nutsert for a driving light brace.

    Best headlight globes for Calais?

Spot on. I was a bit concerned when I swapped over to LEDs so chalked the original cutoff on the garage roller door. LEDs were exactly the same cut off. I'm considering raising them 2 feet. I don't want to be the only one out there not blinding anyone.

Thought I'd mention that a truly wonderful human being has posted a VF relevant adv in the "Parts and Other Items For Sale" forum. He thought he'd do it here before dealing with idiots on marketplace. Gone to a new home with a very handsome and charming forum member.

    Climate control differences

This may have nothing to do with anything Holden related but it might help someone. Some years ago, on a trip back from Mount Isa, my G6E started blowing very hot air through drivers foot vents (had to put shoes and socks on) but normal temp through passengers vent. Car was in warranty so when...

There's one here. That's about what I paid from Holden https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/144311673658?hash=item2199a5633a:g:csUAAOSw7XBhpZID&frcectupt=true There's a few on US ebay as well.

Auto Dimming Mirror - VF2 Installation

Sorry mate, I can barely remember doing the job. A lot of water under the bridge since then :) I'll have a look tomorrow and see if the connector is in my auto-electrical collection (read box on the shelf) but I'm fairly sure I would have binned it, edit: no luck mate, All manner of strange...

    Remote start distance to car

I park as far away from other vehicles as I can and I figure the walk won't do me any harm so at our local Bunnings I can remote start an easy 50m from inside Bunnings. Always nice to come out and see that my car has a friend. Prob looked lonely way out there by itself

VF Series 2 Redline Holden service damage

Had mine serviced recently. I always do a walk around before going in to pay. The other day the service guy invited me out for a walk around with him. Perhaps that's what they now do at that dealer. Perhaps I'll find what they actually damaged when I next wash it

    SV6 Spoken speed alert

Hey OP, are you a Humber guy? My Dad had a Series 4?? (1963) Super Snipe followed by a Series 5?? (1967) Wonderful cars. I've looked on carsales from time to time but not many come up (and I really, really, don't ned another car). Maybe in retirement I'll hunt one down.

    Trickle/ battery charger

My car is used for our trips away. Our last trip away (Darwin) was Sept 2019 and since that time car has had sporadic attention. It might get a run to Bunnings two weeks in a row or it might sit in the shed for two months in a row. I've got a "smart charge" charger which I occasionally hook...

Vf 2014 SV 6 Air con issue

Some years ago we were "fortunate" to have a SEAT in the family. My daughter cooked it so "Poor old Dad" pulled the engine apart, replaced the gearbox (Audi!) and then had to get another radiator, fit it, then get aircon regassed. During regassing a faulty hose was found so the aircon place...

    vf2 battery life

Decades ago a mate who was into Jags was having problems with batteries in his XJ12 (I think it was... he had a few different models over the years). Long story short: the car was fitted with a dedicated battery cooler which wasn't working. Those days there was no internet to check and most...

    vf2 battery life

I treat my battery very poorly (2016) My car is used for long trips. Other than that it sits in the shed and if it's very good I'll take it on a weekly trip to Bunnings or wherever (<5kms) Since we returned from Darwin last year (Aug?) and because of Covid we haven't been on our regular...

    VF V8 Calais

I dunno about that. My previous G6E came with 19s and thinking as you do I replaced with 18s for our trips away. On one trip I cracked a rim in a pothole at Blackbutt Range so headed back home and swapped onto the 19s. That trip was Bris - Mount Isa - Townsville - Bris. So a few kms but tbh...

    Custom Number Plates

I always thought they were pretty tacky until my kids bought me some (initials000). Unknown to me, for years they'd been keeping an eye out for them to become available and when they did they bought them for me. I immediately realised there's nothing tacky about personalised plates...

Reminds me of updating my GO50 via Austech and a couple of other forums. Navcore/maps/POIs... good fun. Can you explain those boxes you linked to? Are they of use to us? I'd stump up for one if we can actually achieve something without disabling other features.

That is true but Holden don't "make" the maps. Surely Holden puts in an order for a map upgrade, Here (Nokia) does it's thing, fills the order and we have maps. edit: so if the supplier has nothing in the pipeline then Holden has not ordered and at this stage you would think it unlikely they...

I wonder if it would be worthwhile to contact either GM or the map supplier (can't rem who it is), or both, with a view to organising either a direct purchase from map supplier or having an agent in oz from whom to purchase maps (obviously not Holden). I get that there's issues with VINs etc...

Are you talking anywhere north of AS? My maps aren't the latest (I think my map is 2017 - I'm pretty sure there's just one update left to do) but from at least Tennant Creek north my maps showed the 130 limit (Darwin trip last year). edit: thought I posted a pic on forum...

    LED H7 Bulbs

Did you align them (9 o'clock and 3 o'clock) ? although I don't know that it matters in projectors. I have hi and lo beam LEDs and the coverage is much like stooge's. Didn't need to adjust headlights at all. Chalk marked halogen cut out on the garage door and was exactly the same with LEDs.

VF SS Brembo brake upgrade Vol. 2

Yeah. I was grinding something in 1968 and ended up with steel in eye. Ignored it for a day or so but finally off to doc. Told me it had rusted and I can still feel him picking the bits out :( Had cataract surgery earlier this year and they showed me a pic of my eye with old scars easily seen.

I had mine done in 2018 and at that time dealer did have to "order" it specifically for my car (via vin). I was told that it could take a few days to "arrive" but I think it was two days. edit: when I say "arrive" I mean dealer could hook up to GMH server and download update. Actually, I'm...

That's a feature of the powers that be changing the limits. On our trips I use the Mylink nav but also a Tom Tom (with the latest maps). It's not unusual for Mylink to be right (on road speed limits) and Tom Tom wrong, or vice versa. Thanks for that. I was going to ask that as mine is due for...

    MYLINK, Map updates for a 2013 MY14 Caprice V

Yeah, in 2018 I asked my usual dealer to arrange a map update. They told me there wasn't one but I knew from reading in here that there was. Asked him to check. Nope, no update available. Called in at another dealer. Yep, there is one but I'd need to book in and leave the car all day as the...
