If you have the known LS3 lifter issue, it will tick very clearly (at times) and if the bonnet is up, you'll be able to narrow it down to which bank it's coming from (left or right) and front or back. Mine had lifters and cams replaced just before warranty ran out.

I believe it's a straight swap over. Non V8 Series II had the same bonnet as all series I. You could always cut your Series I bonnet and insert the vents.

Best thing I would suggest is a clay bar and sealant only. It'll add layers of protection over what's there, rather than thinning what's there before you coat it. Polish = paint removal
