I just got a quote from Ultratune to replace and re-program a brand new key for $55. Then can get trade prices and have the equipment to program them to your car's computer. mitcho

    Camber kit advice

Hi, Just wanted to get any feedback from people who have used the IRS camber kits from the justcommodores shop. Was the kit good? any problems? And has anyone fitted it themselves? if so how difficult was it? Thanks guys - and if any else has got a similar product from elsewhere that...

Retro fitting cruise control on a VX Executive

Hi mate, Don't have any answers for you but keep us up to date on how you go with that. I'm going to be doing some hefty highway miles in my exec soon and would be interested in doing the same thing. mitcho.

    which is beter?VT or VX

Yeah if you can find a manual buy it regardless of model. Otherwise I would recommend the VX. The later the better, as holden ironed out many of the niggling problems along the way - making it a more trouble free thing. VX's seem to have less quality issues than the VT. Also a VX series II...

Don't park behind strange trucks outside your house

If someone else is paying its definitely worth getting a fully warranted repair done, rather than a cash job. I know heaps of people that have had repairs turn to shite a few months afterwards. Like paint on plastic bumpers has a habit of flaking etc, and its nice to be able to go back and get...

    leaky steering gear

Hi peoples, On the weekend I noticed wet patch of power steering fluid around the right-hand rubber boot thingy on the steering rack. This is just below some other hydraulic-looking gear that connects to the rack (not sure what its called) So I'm not sure exactly where the fluid...

    Hard to Start Problem

Have you had the battery checked properly by a battery place or just looked at the levels? & how old is the battery? Our quality *cough* australian car batteries rarely last >4 years. I had the same problem. on hot starts usually after stopping at a servo or something, car would turn over a...

    VR longevity

hmmm, you may be right foamy. I couldn't find anything on the RTA website about a temporary permit but I'll give them a ring & ask what the story is. On the website it just says to transfer rego you need proof of identity, and proof of a permanent NSW address. But yeah - i'll check it out.

I need a good price for camber, springs, shocks

Thanks for the nvu link hinterland, there's some decent stuff there. BTW guys - how difficult a job is it to install rear shocks on a VX? Worth doing yourself?

    VR longevity

Cool, thanks for the feedback guys. Doesn't look like I'd be able to buy it anyway cause I can't transfer rego into my name without a NSW lisence. (currently have QLD one) & don't want to change it. And i can't drive the car to QLD without rego either  so looks like no 5speed for me

    VR longevity

Hi, I was looking at buying a VR (manual) for sale but am concerned about high k's. Its done 280,000klm  So I guess I was just wondering about the lifespan of the VR engine & manual gearbox. Would I be up for a rebuild in the near future? And I guess just about everything that is...

    VX Towbar question

yeah you can just remove the tongue, and there's a little plastic plug thingy that will cover the indent in the bumper. You can probably get this from holden, although it won't look strange without it. From experience, however, I can say it has been quite handy having a towbar on my VX. I...

VN buying - what to look for?

Hi Guys, I'm thinking of picking up a cheap VN (up to 2k) in the near future and just wondering what things I should look out for when buying? I know there will always be the little things but more concerned about expensive stuff. like how do the autos hold up after 200,000klm? etc thanks.

    VX Sedan

Hey can I just ask about your instrument panel. Thats not standard is it? looks a lot classier than the one in my VX. whats the story? is it from a VY or something?

    LS1 in VS clubby

Sorry mate can't really answer your question, but just wanted to ask you about the LS1. don't know if you've already got one, but where can you buy them? and what sort of money do they go for? And does anyone know if you can get front-cuts that include the 6-speed? I was just curious about a...

    Brakes

nah rotors are sweet as. The car's just come up 70,000k's and needs pads. wonder if they were still the originals? I guess it depends on the brand/quality of the pads as well. Thanks guys
  21. M

    Brakes

Just a quick question about brake pads. Approximately how many k's should you get out of front / rear pads under normal city driving? And approx how much should they cost to replace (fitted)? thanks for your time.

    Rear Shock Absorbers

hi guys - finally got around to getting some quotes. I can get monroe Gas for $200 fitted, or am also considering some KYB's for $310 fitted. Do you think these prices sound reasonable? And is there much advantage in going for the higher quality KYB brand? I kinda prefer the ride of a good oil...

    VX wagon - known problems

Yeah my VX makes a little groaning noise just as you begin moving forward which I have been told is the ABS module kicking in. I've heard it on other ABS equipped cars as well so I guess its fairly normal.

    Rear Shock Absorbers

Thanks guys. I'll ring around to get a few quotes and get it done along with my 70k service. Better to be safe than sorry....

    vents

Yep thats what I did. If you pull out each vent it then a lot easier to work on the little sliders that run left to right.

    Rear Shock Absorbers

My left hand rear shock absorber is covered in greasy black oily stuff so I assume the shockie is leaking. The one on the right is greasy as well but not as bad. But the thing is they still seem to be working OK. If I push down on the corners of the car it stabilises straight away & I havn't...

    vents

Umm yeah. If you mean the air-con vents that sit at the rear of the centre console (facing toward rear seats) then Yes I have removed these. They clip in at top & bottom with a little plastic joint so they can swivel. I just VERY carefully popped one side out using a flat-head screwdriver. The...

    Speaker covers

You sure can. I picked up a set from my local Holden dealer for about $37 from memory. I believe they are necessary if installing aftermarket speakers in the back parcel tray & they also make the install look like its straight out of the factory. They can be quite popular because heaps of...

    Shame, Holden Shame!

mate - I'm just wondering when you are going to recieve the storage bill? Highly doubt they'd be paying for it but I'm guessing you wouldn't pay it anyway right? Talk about a headache! But I respect your resolve on this issue. While most people would have just got rid of the thing months ago...

Moving on to bigger and better things

Yeah that does sound quite expensive. I'm 21 - full comprehensive on VX exec $860 with AAMI. But thats with no mods, and I guess state/postcode makes a big difference too.

What do you feel safer in, classic or plastic?

Hmm, tough question. I probably 'feel' safer in a modern car mainly due to being better equipped to avoid an accident in the first place. But while newer cars are safer 'all round' - there are definetly situations in which the older car would be beneficial. Like when it runs into something...

    Fuel gauge gone crazy???

hmmm. unfortunately the car is out of the 3 year warranty period. Perhaps I'll just get holden to look at it at my next service which is coming up soon. do you think they would charge much to do it out of warranty or is it fairly simple to do?

    Fuel gauge gone crazy???

Yesterday I started up my car to find the fuel gauge reading half full, when I know the tank was very nearly empty last time I drove it. Sure enough over the next ten minutes the gauge went down quite quickly so i put $20 of petrol in it before heading off on a drive. THEN - after driving...

    Shame, Holden Shame!

I continue to hear a great deal about terrible tyre wear from this issue. But just to add my 10 cents worth, my VX series 1 sedan with NO camber kit fitted does not have any rear tyre wear issues. After 65000k's I'm only just looking at replacing the original bridgestones the car came with now...
