VE 2009 SSV 6.0 L76 Oil Sump Capacity

Pretty sure the L98's held a touch over 8Ltr's but the L76 only held mid 7. Not uncommon for the Holden factory trained technician (apprentice) to over fill an L76 by nearly a ltr

    6.0ltr Oil consumption....

What oil was used?? Are you sure it was filled correctly at the service?? The biggest concern here is the way you spelt concern!! Ha ha

    2007 VE V8 trans issues

Totally agree with Ricey here, it's not software otherwise every single trans would be doing it. It's going to be sticky solenoid or faulty seal...both are common faults. Ever wonder why the aftermarket world is telling you it's software?? Cause that's what they do!!

    Afm

So how does the valves stay closed and locked into place on the deactivated cylinders to stop any pressure loss??

    VE Calais V - 6L V8 Auto - Acceleration issues

It's Torque Management guys. Its built into the computer program. It's the TCM (trans computer) requesting zero torque from the motor in order to make the required gear change. It's built in as a protection mechanism however I think Holden went a little too far with it, hence the reprogramming...

    6 Litre rattler/piston slapper !

That noise in the posted video definitely sounds like the lifters and not the piston slap/clunking that Hexem is referring to. I've found that these types of lifter noises can be significantly improved/disappear if you use a slightly thicker grade of oil. And I'm not talking about going out...

    Afm

No dealer will turn it off for you. Go to any tuner and they can turn it off without touching anything in the tune. Should cost around $100

    OzTrack Mafless Tune

No they don't!!! They just get their engineers to say it is and then your stuck trying to prove otherwise

    OzTrack Mafless Tune

At least most good tuners have a mechanical background...OZTrack has nothing. He's a school teacher!!

AFM L76 lifter rattle when cold WTF?

What is it with Holden cams??? My 2008 SSV had cam and lifter issues. All replaced at 58,000kms. My 2010 SS had L76 had lifter issues which they have now apparently rectified with the latest built L77's. When are they going to build a V8 that has no cam and lifter issue!!!!

AFM L76 lifter rattle when cold WTF?

Don't hear many with HSV LS3's complaining either

Yes the stock systems are quiet but the AFM stock system is quieter than the stock non AFM

    45,000 kilometer service

At Holden it will be around $100 more than the minor services as they change air filter, remote batteries. May be time for brake fluid too depending on age of car??

Cant order a new VE SS ute with sports-auto and NO 'AFM'?

There is no lag from the AFM....if you're feeling lag it's the transmission tune
  16. B

    2011 SV6 - Hesitation under load

You'll find the slight hesitation is the transmissions torque management. The transmission will command "zero" torque from the motor whilst it makes the change from 6th back to 3rd or even 2nd. This is an inbuilt function designed to increase transmission longevity. Can be annoying at times but...

Cant order a new VE SS ute with sports-auto and NO 'AFM'?

Just buy the auto, pay a tune shop $100 to turn the AFM master switch off and say nothing to Holden. The engines are the same inside whether you buy the auto or manual...they are both L77's. If for some reason you had a warranty issue that needed attention from Holden, simply return the tuner...

    E85 Ethanol

You can use E85 in your car without needing a tune. The E85 will be cheaper than the 98 RON but you'll get much less km's out of a tank. There are plenty of reports that suggest the use of E85 and 98 RON works out similar costing. However using E85 will screw up other components much quicker...

    2011 S2 transmission issues?

Get them to check oil level but unless they can replicate the issue they won't be able to do anything. Which means somehow taking a foreman on a trip up the freeway

    Best Value For Money Oil?

I spoke with my dealer today and they said the ACDelco Dexos 5w30 in the 20L drum RRP is pprox $230 but he would give it to me for trade which is $162. The trade price for the 5L containers are $40 each so it's no better buying in bulk. If you can source the ACDelco stuff for anywhere near...

    Best Value For Money Oil?

Fuchs is excellent and the easiest way to source a Fuchs fully synthetic 5w30 oil is to go to your local Holden spare parts and pick up ACDelco Dexos1....it's produced by Fuchs
  23. B

    ACDelco Dexos Oil

Just saw that pic of the 20L drum. That is definitely the 20L version of the above mentioned part number ending in 6958. The parts guys you spoke to knows nothing
  24. B

    ACDelco Dexos Oil

Hey mate, I've not seen the 20L container, nor is there any details on the ACDelco website for the Dexos product in that volume. All I can confirm at the moment is that the Dexos1 is a fully synthetic engine oil and the 5L container is definitely the 19246958 part. I hav purchased two (2) 5L...

    2011 Series II SV6 15000km service price

Any of the minor services (15,000km, 30,000km, 60,000km, 75,000km) etc...are literally oil and filter change and a "check" of everything else. Aside from when you may need the brake fluid flushed (as this is every 2yrs regardless of km's)...anything over $300 for these services is excessive...

    2011 Series II SV6 15000km service price

You are clearly being ripped!! And as mentioned, ask them what they have done and why it's so much. I've done the research for my 2011 S2 SS 15,000km service and got quoted between $240 and $290 from various dealers. That will give you an idea of how much you're getting ripped

    Castrol Edge Titanium 5W-30

Bill44, it will depend on your car obviously. My April 2011 build SS calls for an API SM 5w30; ILSAC GF-4 oil so therefore I may have an issue. If your owners manual says SL then go for it!!! You wouldn't have an issue. As for the cats comment and the use of $70 oil...I'm only referring to...

    Castrol Edge Titanium 5W-30

Mate, I think the oil is perfectly fine and 999 out of 1000 people wouldn't have an issue. My point is more targeted at Holden who will use any excuse to worm out of a warranty claim. In saying that I've just put Shell Helix 5w40 into mine which is also not the correct spec. Obviously the oil...
  29. B

    Castrol Edge Titanium 5W-30

I'm only going off the bottle which clearly states exactly what you've quoted....except due to the phospherous levels the oil isn't actually an API SN grade, it's an API SL I believe. In effect, the oil meets all requirements for an SN oil but the phospherous levels only meet an API SL. As a...
  30. B

    Castrol Edge Titanium 5W-30

Looks good, about the same viscosity as the old Edge product but will potentially void a new car warranty relating to exhaust cats and possibly engine. This is because of the phospherous levels.it gives them an out as the oil doesn't comply with their minimum specs of at least an API SM oil, let...

Urgent Advice need on the L77

Oh Holden, can I please also have brand new replacement engine under warranty. But before you put it in can you pull apart a perfectly good engine to install a camshaft that was never designed for that motor (without changing pushrod lengths to accommodate the different cam specs)...and can you...

AFM L76 lifter rattle when cold WTF?

60thssv, yep it's ticking away. Your model has proven issues with cam and GM have since released revised litters for your L98 too. Would definitely be taking it to the dealer armed with heaps of research...even revised part numbers etc

Why is AFM only in Automatic models??

In the Series 2 Commodores the motors are identical whether manual or auto. The correct reason is as suggested at the start...the auto absorbs the vibrations caused by the motor transitioning between V8 and V4 mode

    Engineering mode oil life

The Oil Life percentage reading is an algerithm messurement calculated on engine run time, rpm, etc etc....not completely accurate and not referred to in Australia. It would be reading low as it was not reset but....don't worry about it. It certainly does get its readings from analysis of oil.

Crank case vent smell in engine bay

Yes mate, purchase the ACDelco fully synthetic 5w30 with the Dexos 1 logo on the front (vdery important). The part number is 19246958. I just bought my 2 bottle for $40 each but I think I got a special discount. Either way, the rrp for the oil is cheaper than most of the other full syn oils...

Oil/Filter Change Cost - Too Much?

Let's clear up your confusion. The ACDelco comes in mineral, semi syn and full syn. You can but the mineral which is a 10w30 oil rated at GF-3 but the better choice would be the semi syn which is also a 10w30 oil but is rated as a GF-4 oil. ACDelco also produces your usual full syn oil which is...
