Totally agree with Ricey here, it's not software otherwise every single trans would be doing it. It's going to be sticky solenoid or faulty seal...both are common faults. Ever wonder why the aftermarket world is telling you it's software?? Cause that's what they do!!

It's Torque Management guys. Its built into the computer program. It's the TCM (trans computer) requesting zero torque from the motor in order to make the required gear change. It's built in as a protection mechanism however I think Holden went a little too far with it, hence the reprogramming...

That noise in the posted video definitely sounds like the lifters and not the piston slap/clunking that Hexem is referring to. I've found that these types of lifter noises can be significantly improved/disappear if you use a slightly thicker grade of oil. And I'm not talking about going out...

No dealer will turn it off for you. Go to any tuner and they can turn it off without touching anything in the tune. Should cost around $100

No they don't!!! They just get their engineers to say it is and then your stuck trying to prove otherwise

What is it with Holden cams??? My 2008 SSV had cam and lifter issues. All replaced at 58,000kms. My 2010 SS had L76 had lifter issues which they have now apparently rectified with the latest built L77's. When are they going to build a V8 that has no cam and lifter issue!!!!

Yes the stock systems are quiet but the AFM stock system is quieter than the stock non AFM

There is no lag from the AFM....if you're feeling lag it's the transmission tune

You'll find the slight hesitation is the transmissions torque management. The transmission will command "zero" torque from the motor whilst it makes the change from 6th back to 3rd or even 2nd. This is an inbuilt function designed to increase transmission longevity. Can be annoying at times but...

Just buy the auto, pay a tune shop $100 to turn the AFM master switch off and say nothing to Holden. The engines are the same inside whether you buy the auto or manual...they are both L77's. If for some reason you had a warranty issue that needed attention from Holden, simply return the tuner...

You can use E85 in your car without needing a tune. The E85 will be cheaper than the 98 RON but you'll get much less km's out of a tank. There are plenty of reports that suggest the use of E85 and 98 RON works out similar costing. However using E85 will screw up other components much quicker...

Get them to check oil level but unless they can replicate the issue they won't be able to do anything. Which means somehow taking a foreman on a trip up the freeway

Fuchs is excellent and the easiest way to source a Fuchs fully synthetic 5w30 oil is to go to your local Holden spare parts and pick up ACDelco Dexos1....it's produced by Fuchs

Any of the minor services (15,000km, 30,000km, 60,000km, 75,000km) etc...are literally oil and filter change and a "check" of everything else. Aside from when you may need the brake fluid flushed (as this is every 2yrs regardless of km's)...anything over $300 for these services is excessive...

You are clearly being ripped!! And as mentioned, ask them what they have done and why it's so much. I've done the research for my 2011 S2 SS 15,000km service and got quoted between $240 and $290 from various dealers. That will give you an idea of how much you're getting ripped

60thssv, yep it's ticking away. Your model has proven issues with cam and GM have since released revised litters for your L98 too. Would definitely be taking it to the dealer armed with heaps of research...even revised part numbers etc

In the Series 2 Commodores the motors are identical whether manual or auto. The correct reason is as suggested at the start...the auto absorbs the vibrations caused by the motor transitioning between V8 and V4 mode

The Oil Life percentage reading is an algerithm messurement calculated on engine run time, rpm, etc etc....not completely accurate and not referred to in Australia. It would be reading low as it was not reset but....don't worry about it. It certainly does get its readings from analysis of oil.
