how to connect steering wheel controls to aftermarketr stereo

On our cheap Chinese stereo, the wiring guide showed three cables for the steering wheel controls. I think they were Key 1 +, Key 1 - and Earth or power (this was a couple of years ago). Your guide may show different names. Just try all the steering control wires on the wires behind the...

    Voltage Regulator? Or Alternator?

My VX II has had the battery light on for the past few months. At first it was intermittent, but now is on all the time. At the beginning of the year I replaced the battery and voltage regulator, but this didn't solve the problem (intermittent battery light at the time). My Multi-meter is...

HELP NEEDED: VT II Commodore Engine Stalling.

I too had an issue with stalling, but only when running on LPG. I thought it was an electrical fault at first, but turned out to be a vacuum leak. It was an intermittent problem, and whenever I fiddled the electrical plugs near the mixer, that was enough to re-seal the leak, so the car would...

Another AC Probelm - VX II

Hi all, I noticed the AC not working a few days after the mounts were changed. But at the time I was broke, so could not do anything about it. I have checked the fans are both working, and the radiator is not clogged with anything. Also, the radiator is not getting hotter than normal. The...

Another AC Probelm - VX II

Yes, strange coincidence. However, shop = money, and that we don't have spare at the moment (which is why I have waited so long since the mounts were changed). Will keep looking for the fault. Unfortunately it was raining too hard yesterday to check anything.

Another AC Probelm - VX II

Hi Guys, I checked and the compressor does cut in when switched on and the pipe to the radiator gets hot. I will check the other things this afternoon. The system is definitely not over gassed as we have not had it re-gassed in the 6 years we have owned the car. The system stopped suddenly...

Another AC Probelm - VX II

Late last year we had the engine mounts changed on our VX Series II Wagon. After the repair, the AC would not cool. The fan blows OK, and changing the vents (floor to face to demist) works OK. I spoke to the mechanic who did the mounts, and he suggested checking the plugs as he claims that...

    Key Issues

Hi Graham & Lout, Thanks for the replies. It was the ignition barrel tab. I have ordered a new one and will fit it myself after getting it matched to my key. In the meantime I am starting the car with a screwdriver. I am doing it myself as I enjoy doing these sort of repairs myself. Cheers, JG

    Key Issues

We have a VX II wagon. This morning when my wife went to start the car, she turned the key and the dash light up. But the car did not start. So she turned the key to the off position and took it out, but the dash lights stayed on (like the car is switched on but not started). When I had a...

VX Battery Light with new battery

The battery place checked the CCA with a load meter? Some sort of computerized device that shows voltage, CCA, ans such. The battery is new, and the terminals are good. I will check the rest on the weekend (I leave for work at first light and get back after dark during the week). Thanks...

VX Battery Light with new battery

Hi all, I just bought a new battery as my old one (4 years old) was cactus. The CCA was down to 229 (on a 600 CCA battery). The battery warning light was coming on occasionally before the swap, but now is coming on much more often. I changed the regulator on the back of the...

    VX11 ACCLAIM rseat replacement

Yes, lots of people say that auto electricians with a Tech 2 Blah Blah Blah. But when asked for a place that actually has a Tech 2, I get no responses!! Is it such a secret (like a prized fishing spot)? What gives? Why can nobody tell me which auto electrician has a Tech 2? I have asked for a...

What to add to the oil to clean the inside of the engine on a vt

My other car is a diesel van, and I do all the servicing myself. I have to change the oil every 5,000 KMs and filter every 10,000 Kms. And about 200 kms after the oil change, the oil is black already. It is because diesels produce lots more soot (carbon) and that is absorbed into the oil...

Leaking Hosae - What is it?

Unfortunately mine is leaking from the right side, where it loops back around. Also there is lots of rust all along the pipe. I need to replace it soon. Thanks for identifying the pipe. Any idea of the part no or where I can get one from?

Leaking Hosae - What is it?

Hi All, My VX Series II has a metal hose in front of the radiator that goes from left to right, then curves down and returns to the left. This hose is situated just in front of the radiator, and is visible from the front in the gap under the bumper and above the air dam lip. I have not had...

    VX Wagon Rear Shock Absorbers

Also anyone know the engine mount part nos? I looked on eBay and there appear to be several different types, all saying engine mount. I think it is the front ones that need changing (been told the sump is sitting on the K-Frame).

    Steering wheel

Mine cost $4.99, took about 2 weeks to be delivered (from China) and about 2 hours for me to stitch it on (including removing and refitting the steering wheel). It is very easy to fit if you remove the steering wheel. Here is the link...

    Vibration II

Tires are about 60% WORN (20,000 KMS?). I will try rotating the tires and see if that changes things. Are the control arms the ones that go from the front frame to the suspension arm? I changed the front ones, but the rear ones are a bit worn and need to be changed. I have the bushes, but...

    Vibration II

Thanks. It only started recently, and the car has done about 250,000 kms. Also, today I noticed that it is more prominent when the car is "cold". Our morning commute consists of a 10 km stretch through town, then 45 kms on freeway, then another 20 kms in Sydney traffic. The vibration is most...

    Vibration II

Didn't want to hijack the other vibration thread. My VX Series II wagon has a fine vibration through the steering wheel between 50 and 65 KM H. It is not RPM related (happens at different revs, doesn't happen at different speeds), and is more noticeable when accelerating. There is a slight...

air con regas on vx with 300,000k's

I read on another car forum (in the UK) that they can get a kit (can of gas and connectors) from their local spares place. Anybody know if we can get something similar in Australia? Cheers JG

HID KIT Install, What's wrong here?

I am in NSW, and I drive about 50,000 kms a year. I had HIDs in my car (with standard lenses) for almost 2 years, and never got booked. (I made sure my lights did not shine too brightly into oncomming cars). And we drive both freeway and city (Sydney), and pass many cop cars. JG

    Vx commodore lpg problem

I know you have checked the hoses, but look carefully, maybe jiggle the hoses. In mine, I thought it was an electrical problem, and it existed since the LPG was installed. Turned out that the hose had become hard, and was leaking slightly. When I jiggled the electrical connectors in the ares, I...

    Dash cluster gear selector lights

    Vx commodore lpg problem

Check the vacuum hose that goes from the regulator to the solenoid/solenoid to mixer. Mine was leaking, and I had surging, poor economy, high idle, stalling.

Best option for a Blown Head gasket

Minor point, but the OP does say it is a VX, not a VT. Still, I recently had my heads done, and it cost me $1,200 (mobile mechanic, who works the Central Coast, so can do the Morrisett job.) PM me if you want his phone no.

    rewind ks on odo cluster?

Only works on older mechanical odos. Electronic ones will actually go forward, even with the car in reverse!! So all you will achieve is a HIGHER km reading!

    VX dual fuel playing up

We had a similar stalling problem with our VX II converted to LPG. Also had the high idle. Had the problem since the day it was converted. I thought it was a loose electrical connection, either where the LPG loom connects to the car loom (drivers side firewall) or the cutoff solenoid. Juggling...

    What's meant to be here?

Anyone know the part number / name for the required loom? I have installed a 3 window cluster with the lights, but do not have the required loom. Also, anyone know where I can get a loom in Sydney or the Central Coast? And hoq much should it cost? Cheers, JG

    protecting the fuel tank

Adding a tank protector would also lower the car more - and you would find your bottom scraping more often!! An alternative would be to relocate the tank into the boot (don't know if that is legal!).

Clearing Airbag Fault / Chime on startup

The OP does say he will get the air bag light changed, so he is aware this globe is not working (probably removed by the previous owner!). The question was if anyone in or around Newcastle has a scantool (Tech 2).

    Instrument cluster reprogramming

I recently found a thread relating to re-programming three window clusters for the air bags, etc. after a swap. But I can't find it now. There was a link to a company that comes to you to re-program the clusters, and was offering a $30 service to program the airbags, $ 30 to re-calibrate the...

    Cluster Change question

The cluster has a white back, and black guages with a silver surround. There is no X in the left window (I think). The speedo is fairly accurate (according to the GPS) and the fuel guage is all over the place as we run the car mostly on LPG and only keep about 1/4 takn of petrol. The air bag...

    Cluster Change question

I know there have been lots of threads about cluster changes, but none of them address my question. I recently changed the single window cluster on my VX Series II Executive wagon for a three window cluster, possibly out of a VT Calais. As expected, the air bag light came on (my VX has...
