    VF LS3 V8 Service Queries

Don’t use a tool to install the filter hand tight works. I have some SCA filter pliers for the times someone has over tightened. Genuine gaskets are fine, chances are the workshop is installing incorrectly if it keeps leaking as I had the same issue and did it myself once and no more leaks.

    Sparesbox still ok?

Wouldn’t use them again, had long delivery times but the straw that broke the camels back was a few months back. Had a sale on brake rotors, seen a pair that fit the redline, snapped them up 20% off. Got a email saying out of stock and refund given, no mention of waiting for stock to come...

Genuine VF HSV wheels at dealer/cost price

I had to email twice and they finally replied. The tracking number first sent also didn’t work. A proper DHL email comes when they have been sent. Mine took around a month off the top of my head.

Genuine VF HSV wheels at dealer/cost price

I’m almost certain those are the wheels that actually fit brembos even though they say that they don’t. There is a photo somewhere with them on . I’ll have to look for it

Genuine VF HSV wheels at dealer/cost price

They were an option on all most models but the redline wasn’t one so be careful as may not fit. In saying that, regular SSV wheels were said to not clear brembos but they actually fit nicely.

Nah, I figured bulky items and being in NSW mine would be a while. Was gunna contact them this week if I have heard nothing.

Genuine VF HSV wheels at dealer/cost price

275 is standard but you could run a 285 on them easily. Fronts you could run either 245 or 255.

Genuine VF HSV wheels at dealer/cost price

Got a staggered set of rapiers 2x8.5 and 2 x 9.5 for $2840 delivered. I figured even if I don’t end up putting them on, a genuine set of Forged Rapiers in boxes and with receipts from HSV will be worth more than the purchase price in the future.

    VF2 Brembo Brakes

DB2358AXP, the DB1678 also fit but don’t have the weights for help with noise. 1678 are probably easier to get options for as they are used in evos and wrx stis that use the 4 pot brembo caliper.

Best pads for standard rotors - most cold bite

4000 series rotors will rust more due to the iron content used to make the rotor handle heat better. Also the owners using them are more likely to use a semi metallic pad creating more dust which is rotor and pad dust and has the bright orange rust colour.

    Noise after oil change

300ml wouldn’t be enough to cause any issues. If the sound has stopped I’d say it’s nothing to worry about, but if it comes back probably try to record it as Trrrsh is a hard way to describe a sound.

    Bendix Ultimate +

Ultimate = metallic compound Ultimate + = ceramic compound So in theory the plus should have fixed the issues about dust and rotor wear, however the question is how the performance has been affected.
  16. eman1

    Bendix Ultimate +

Seen them and yea the marketing looks good, but ceramic pads downfall is the bite of a semi metallic pad and ability to handle heat. The upside is low dust and quiet. So unless they have found a way around this, I stuck with a semi metallic compound anyway but interested to hear others who have...

    Repco sale

Shell ultra c3 (dexos version) on clearance too, only cause of old packaging. $28 is a steal. https://www.repco.com.au/en/oils-fluids/engine-oils-fluids/engine-oil/shell-helix-ultra-ect-c3-5w-30-engine-oil-5l-300012437/p/A9660308

    Padding on the engine cover

It’s always a good idea to change coolant more regularly and everyone never does. Lots of people change their oil more frequently but not coolants and that’s what is in the car 5-10 times longer. So many cars are seeing problems with the cooling systems and compared to oil changes it’s...

    Bridgestone or Michellin

Keep in mind they tyre manufactures make specific compounds for certain brands, I watched a video recently about Michelin PS4S standard and the PS4S* for the BMW. BMW set specific targets for their tyres and Michelin change the tyre to ensure it meets the characteristics desired. found it:

    Another Exhaust Thread

It’s interesting you say that, I called around the popular shops in nsw and many shops would be so pushy to not use systems that by popular opinion sound good. I had shops steer me away from difillipo, harrop and manta, but recommended x force and hurricane. I think it comes down to which...

LS3 Lifter noise or Piston Slap?

Good point about only starting now after all that time. In saying that it could slap more noticeable as the play could become bigger as the piston skirt wears. The trunnions are easy to check but removing the coil packs and taking off the rocker covers, then you can inspect the rockers to check...

LS3 Lifter noise or Piston Slap?

https://www.ssforums.com/threads/piston-slap.63498/ In a perfect world these engines make no noise but it’s just how they are, mine probably does it but the cam and 3 inch exhaust covers up the sound. I’ve heard it from a freshly rebuilt Subaru ej257 and working at a Harley dealer with pushrod...

LS3 Lifter noise or Piston Slap?

Doesn’t sound like a lifter to me, generally that’s more of a ticking noise and doesn’t go away when it heats up.

    Squeals on wheels

All performance brakes make noise to a degree. SRT by bendix are good pads but also performance is prioritised over noise and dust. Have they been bedded in? That can help with noise. You could try a more street based compound like DBA street series or bendix CT but you won’t get the same...

I don’t think the cats would do heaps if you have a full x force system as every x force Ive heard is fairly raspy. It may change the note a little but I would think the rest of the catback would have more influence.

    Fuel Economy for supercharged 6.0L

Putting a fuel pump and injectors would be if you were wanting to add more power by adding more fuel and boost. Cammed and supercharged id assume your somewhere in the 450 to 500rwkw so yours pushing the power of 4 economy hatchbacks so gunna use plenty. Like others have said, depends what...

What Steel Braided Brake Lines to Buy?

Id say 1 hours for a competent mechanic, I did it in backyard with jack stands in 2 including the brake flush. Just ensure it’s a quick change over as the issue with abs would be if you let air in the lines and it gets all the way to the abs module which requires a tool to cycle it to get air...

What Steel Braided Brake Lines to Buy?

When I changed them on a year old redline there was a noticeable difference in pedal feel. Keep in mind almost everyone changes pads and fluid at the same time so this can have a effect. But I’ve also changed pads and fluid before and not got the change in pedal feel that the lines did. Also...

Oil changes on cars in storage or driven rarely

If your cars in storage I would do maybe every 12 months, but seeing as euro cars can go up to 24 months on certain conditions I would say that 24 months wouldn’t be that bad either with good oil. Cars sludge when doing excessive km or time running service intervals. Cars in storage wouldn’t...

VF 6.2 M6 Diff Oil and Trans Fluid

Yea Penrite in mine. In regards to the holden vs ac Delco fluids, they all use the ac delco in the states and have said it the correct carbon Modified fluid. So wouldn’t suprise me if the Holden bottle is the same fluid just repackaged. In my opinion I go the Penrite fluid as it’s cheaper and...

Can a LS3 injector fail cause damage

Im no expert but the dealer when mine failed said it’s fine to drive on will just run rough, so I wouldn’t think it would cause damage. If it could cause damage there will be plenty of issues as almost every VF2 owner I’ve spoken to has had the injectors replaced under warranty.
