    Fuel flap

My aunt bought a VE a few years ago and couldn't find the lever. The petrol station guy couldn't either so she had to drive back home for my uncle to open it.

    VTII V6 wagon fuel pumps?

As a mechanic and an owner of a vt v6 wagon. I can confirm that its the same as a sedan. It's even the same pump

    What are the best oils???

The reason for larger service intervals is that it's a better selling point for fleet customers. The engines do have better tech and some more detergent. An ecotec or even a 202 could run 15k intervals without too much drama, but it is a long time, especially as engines get on in mileage.

    Honing question

You can get a lip remover tool. It's an adjustable clamp that sits on the top of the block and cuts away the lip slowly. That's the best option. Then hone over it all.

What's my problem? (car is weak)

Getting a lpg service would be a good start. A vapour system like the one I assume you have should be around $77. This will retune the gas mixtures and a professional will notice any faults. The petrol side of things sounds like the injectors are filthy. When you run on gas all the time the...

    Clear valve covers

Pretty cool. Apparently you can get clear distributor caps. But they smoke up straight away and crack a lot

    Outline left from debadging

I used to be an assistant in a panel shop and one thing the painters taught me for polishing/ cutting paint was to never ever scrunch up your rag. Fold it so it's flat and use your hand on top flatly. This prevents scratching or swirl marks to an extent.

    Factory VY LPG electrical operation

Glad to hear its all sorted. I'm not a fan of the smart solenoid locks. It also appears that the impco control box sends LPG power to the tank and then through the smart valve and back to the under bonnet lock off. Seems silly when the control box is simply on the other side of the firewall

Odometer adjustment for replacement instrument cluster?

Don't know how long you put up with the broken one before but why not just deal with it for another 10,000 until you reach the odo of the new cluster and then change it.

    Factory VY LPG electrical operation

Depending on the system they have a safety switch. Which is basically a relay that is switched by a neg coil pulse. It will turn on for a few seconds on ignition and be on solid when the car is running. Sometimes these are separate and other times they are built into the lpg processor ECU.

    VT Disc rotor sizes

^^ this is correct Means they are too thin as they wear down. With some vernier calipers you can measure the thickness. Sometimes the minimum thickness is stamped on the face of the rotor. I know fronts are 25mm. I think rears are 22 or 23. You will have to research.

    VT Won't run on Petrol.

Blocked injectors is the obvious, but you would notice a small improvement when blocking the return line

    What's this? (5L V8)

Could be the vapour return line for the fuel tank. If it comes from the fuel system under bonnet and goes to the rear

They go hard after a few years. If you can't budge it, give it the chop as a new one is about $8

Maybe a picture so people know what's going on would be appropriate.

How much pressure would you expect from fuel pump?

You will find that if the vehicle always runs on lpg the injectors may need a good clean. Also I've experienced a high number of faulty fuel miser pumps after a few months, and spoken to a fuel miser rep and he says they are aware of the problem but are unsure of the cause. They just accept a...

Can often get decent prices from vpw or rocket industries. Just takes Time for freight

Looking for help on my HQ

Since hqs ran from 71 to 74, and the emissions regs were in 1974, the later model cars were equipped with extra equipment for this. Different manifolds or something. So I think it would be better to get a 71-73 model.

    VZ Thunder Ute

No idea If it's any good but repco have a sale at the moment on spray can version of the vinyl wrap stuff. $49 per can. Each can covers two rims. Seems like a decent option if the stuff works.

    Removing sunroof help??

Unsure if its the same as the later models. But I had to use a scraper to separate the roof because it was glued together.

    ebay door handles.

Has anyone bought or used the full chrome door handles from eBay. They are pretty tacky, but do they look absolutely rubbish or passable. My passenger one broke and it's probably gonna cost the same for a set of 4 ($80) as to get another one and paint it. The broken one was a Chinese copy not...

Manual gear changing what do you do?

Just use the clutch in and out normal style. Sometimes give a tap of the throttle to rev match when changing down for a roundabout etc. Heel toe is silly on the road. You never need to brake that hard in traffic

    Changing vt fuel pump

You can get the proper disconnect tool from repco (set of 2) for about $15

    Changing vt fuel pump

Support the tank, undo the 3 straps. one has an earth wire Lower it a little and disconnect the wiring plug to the pump and the three fuel/return/vapour lines with the special disconnect tool. Also pull the breather off the filler neck. Sometimes its easier to take the fuel cap off then lower...

upgrading bushs with nolathane ve ssv ute

The control arm bushes should be fine in polyeurathane, but as above mostly depends on driver preference. Eg in our hq racecar we only use rubber as its much nicer I would recommend sway bar bushes and link bushes in rubber though. Just my opinion.

    Seat Belts??

That means that the front end repair comes under the threshold for the maximum repair cost and the insurance company will fix your car. However adding the additional cost of the seatbelt pretensions and srs components brings the repair bill up too high for the value of the vehicle. Economic...

will a V6 VT benefit from premium fuel?

You will get slightly better mileage but costs more so it works out around the same. Maybe slightly less cost effective. However the 98 has much more cleansing agents and octane boosters. Its all these goodies that you're paying for.

Either your subframe or lower arm is busted and you need a new one from the wreckers. Recommend do not drive

    Challenge meals

There's a place near me in Wyndham vale (werribee) called Cody's cafe. They have a scorpion burger. It's 500g burger with a super hot sauce. Comes with chips. Have to eat it in 20mins with no drink to get on the wall of fame. I think you get a free drink at the bar too.

how to undo rear brake lines

They will be metric. However they may be rounded as mentioned above. You can get pipe spanners to undo brake lines. They look like 3/4 of a ring spanner. Gives you more purchase and less chance of rounding the fitting. Can use normal spanners if they aren't overtight. Or if they have been...

Loud knocking noise coming from idler pulleys? Possible tear in crankshaft 98 VT V6

    2016-2017

I agree. Although I must point out (in my humble opinion) that the commodore and it's racing identity was largely developed in the first generation commodores VB to VH. The VK is famous as the last of a generation, and began to wane from there. When I see the Marlboro commodore I appreciate its...
