Direction of tape was correct - other wise i would have been able to see and feel it unravel. I hear plumbers use 'pipe-dope' instead of teflon tape - sometime both? teflon tape and then dab a bit of pipe dope on the teflon tape. your thoughts?

Sorry if i did not make it clear - i removed the mixing valve off from the wall nogging for this very reason, i soldered the new connectors prior to tightening everything back up - the rubber o-rings and threaded tape are fine.
