    Bali 9 - thoughts?

I get the whole do the crime do the time thing, but I still think it's a complete slap in the face to us as a nation that the Indonesian President, the same week he insisted the executions would go ahead pardoned and reduced the sentences of several of the Bali Bombers. It's even more of a slap...

Fuel. How much does it cost where you live ?

I think it's suss that one servo in Lithgow sells at 1.09 and all the others are at 1.30 odd. I also found it very suss that a few weeks ago servos 40km away at Katoomba were selling at 99.9 while servos in Lithgow didn't go below 1.20. I also found it extremely suss that the servo selling at...

Holden capped price service for all holders after 1948... Your thoughts?

Stockpiling oil and filters for $20 when they come on special at Repco vs $200 odd dollars at Holden for an oil and filter and a look around the engine bay. $200 would be nearly getting all of their so called essentials service as well as spark plugs, maybe even an air and fuel filter done at my...

    Statesman clock backlight bulb replacement

I recently did a Statesman dash conversion, installed a VR Stato dash into my VS. I found that the clock included is missing it's backlight bulb and based on some searching I believe that's likely why the clock isn't working as it is somehow needed to complete a circuit. Does anyone know the...

    VS V8 Airbox in a V6

I know it's pretty well accepted that both the V8 and L67 CAIs suffer from heat soak when standing idle for long periods of time, and it can be felt that they get very hot if you're running the car at slow speeds for a long time, as might be encountered in stop/start traffic, but has anyone done...

[SA] NA,NAII,NC,NCII Fairlanes what everyone thinks of them

Why exactly do you say this? I've found the AU Fairlanes I've dealt with to be very nice cars to travel in. I wouldn't say they're an absolute joke of a luxury car, what I would say was a joke of a luxury car was having the VS series III models competing against the early AU Fairlane, 2 years...

    bad starter?

When I had what I thought was a blown starter motor it turned out it was just a really bad earth to the battery. Fixed it by putting some extra massively oversized earths in. As my mechanic said, you can never have enough earths. Might be worth looking into if the starter motor checks out alright.

    Question about FE2 suspension

Just to note, FE2 is, for cars that came with FE2 suspension, "Standard factory height" and I drove my FE2 equipped car around for 2 and a half years without any trouble-and that includes pissing a few police officers on occasion. Got asked once if I had lowered the car, as it "looked a little...

    Question about FE2 suspension

That looks roughly normal for FE2 and doesn't exactly look like it's going to ring alarm bells with the police either. Maybe the springs or shockies have sagged a little bit over time? How much of a gap between the guards and the tyres is there?

VS Commodore SS Bodykit front bar replacement

Just the lip. The front bar it self remains firmly in situ. Sorry for any confusion i caused. Holden want $550 for a front lip? Tell them they're dreaming. Even $150 for a fiberglass reproduction seems a tad steep for a lip. What I meant by asking about the Statesman was I have seen some...

VS Commodore SS Bodykit front bar replacement

I have a car which up until today had a SS bodykit, front and rear lips, and side skirts. Somehow the front bar has come loose and fallen off, and as a result is now missing in action. The original screw's had long since failed and it was being held on by Sikaflex so I guess its not a complete...

    Pick Up Trucks in Australia

In relation to your original question, a large part of the reason some cars have tow hitches on them is because the vehicles are often ordered with tow packs from the factory for the other benefits eg uprated transmission and other coolers, brakes, improved/heavy duty suspension etc. The tow...

    VR Calais to Commodore Conversion

It will never be a "proper" Calais even if you strip it down to the frame. The VIN will always identify itself as an Executive, or Berlina derived model. I guess you have to look at what you want out of the car. Power windows are easy enough to install, level 3 clusters are likewise easy if you...

Warning light on instrument cluster issue

Morning all, I noticed today a minor fault has developed with the lights on my car's instrument cluster warning lights. When I have Cruise Control on, the green CRS light illuminates brightly, however when I switch Cruise Control off, the lights for Cruise Control and the red Air Bag light...

Nice pickup. Not many Calais getting around with full leather seats in them and even less that are in that good of a condition. For $400, that's basically a steal.

    VR Commodore power windows

Do you have the green lights in the switches? If the switches have lights, the switches have power, so it's not likely to be a fuse or relay. If the switches have lights then further investigation is probably needed. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts it's a relay or fuse though. Electric motors can...

vr/vs statesman interior into vr belina

It all basically bolts straight in, you need the full centre console from the Stato and the full radio surrounds if it's a Series II or III Stato with the woodgrain trim and sunglasses holder though. Now that I think of it there's one metal bar above the radio that you will need to drill/cut...

Scrap it or fix it, need some advice!

Where exactly is the noise it's making coming from? It's hard to tell in the video. I'm just as likely to be wrong, but that sounds a lot like the noise my engine made when it blew a water pump. Of course I say that not knowing where the noise is coming from, but the sound it's making is a dead...

    Help with BA fan boy

Some people a few pages back brought up the BA wagon's alleged "cart springs" I really hate when people bring this up like it's a bad thing. It's not, because they're meant to have the so called cart springs, because they're better at what the Falcon Wagon is designed for-which is carrying a...

    Alloytec durability

I've travelled in WM Statesman taxis and hire cars that have had upwards of 3 to 400,000 km on them. They have all sounded and driven [from a passenger's perspective at least] like they're going alright. In terms of sheer durability however, no two ways about it, I'll keep my Ecotec even if only...

    1997 VSII L67 Calais

Agreed. Some tint on the windows and it would look pretty damn perfect. I like the wheels as well, Not too overdone but still nice to look at, and works well with the car itself as a package. I think it may have a bodykit, I can see side skirts and a lip around the front? Maybe I'm mistaken...

    Vs power window conversion

How do you mean the motor load on the switches will burn them out? Where exactly should these relays be wired in? Do you mean the one that goes in the fuse box with all the other relays or a different relay? Sent from my XT1033 using Forum Fiend v1.2.8.

    Rolf Harris verdict

Yes, bring on the civil cases. I'm not saying he did it, I'm not saying he didn't do it but the fact of the matter is that the inevitable talk of compensation and payouts and such, the fact some of victims and accusers look like they may make a lot of money-not to mention some have already done...

    Mystery Overheating VS Ecotec 3.8L

I'll second the heater tap. They can look fine but leak and spray hot water/steam when the radiator builds up pressure. If it's the heater tap I'd get it fixed ASAP as it will only get worse and it will eventually go completely and leave you on the side of the road. Sent from my XT1033 using...

CAI to VS stock air box?

The reflectors in the tail lights have faded. You have a few options, replace the lights or you can buy a sticky red reflective strip and cut it to size then apply over top of the reflector for a medium to long term solution. Leaving it as is is technically a defectable item as the tail lights...

    Ecotec supercharged 3.8l to N/A

In NSW, even if it has the supercharger removed, it's still illegal. If the car originally left the factory with a turbo/supercharger or 8 or more cylinders, it's automatically banned. Retrofitting a 6 cylinder, even if you were retrofitting a Starfire 4 cylinder doesn't change the fact it's...

VSS how much affect? Still getting 10L/100

As does mine. I did a trip from Cessnock, NSW to Parramatta NSW and returned an average of 7.8 l/100 by the bowser, 7.9 by the trip computer. That's with a short stretch of urban driving at the beginning and a longer stretch of stop start driving at the beginning as well, so a pure highway...

Historial - What if Holden built the WA Kingswood?

Would it really have been a sales disaster? The cost of the tooling for the WB, would already have virtually paid for itself given how long it had ran as a model series for, so they wouldn't need to sell millions to make money and if they were already making luxo spec Statesmans then surely it...

    How to install Power Windows

So after a year of procrastination I got my windows in. Found an interesting situation-wiring looms to the two front doors plus halfway to the right hand rear door but nothing on the left. Found it odd. Had to run wires to bypass the BCM for the front right hand window and had to run 3 wires to...

    Level 3 cluster install.

Gotta agree, a patch loom from Shane is the way to go. The install process is basically idiot proof. The worst I had was some blown fuses, and I mucked quite a few parts of the install up as well. Plugs upside down is the big one. Helpful hint, the pointy bits on the plugs all point to the left...

    Brake Dragging-Is it ever "Normal"

About 6 weeks ago I had my brakes replaced. Pads, rotors and they fixed the seized rear caliper slides. Apparently the front caliper slides were fine, I don't fully agree but I was willing to take their word for it. The old pads and rotors only lasted a bit over 30,000 km, from pads that's one...

I had the same fault, started off mild and then a the car felt like it would shake itself to bits before long. Replaced the ignition coils, leads and plugs and have not had a problem since. You also might want to replace the DFI module as well. None of this is too hard to do, took me half a...
