    VS Losing coolant.

Thanks guys. Will check those things. Just got back from Supercheap with more coolant. Will see how it goes. :-)

    VS Losing coolant.

Howdy, I noticed my VS-II has been using a lot of coolant lately. I topped it up last week and now the reservoir bottle is empty. I am not noticing any green puddles anywhere after I stop the car, and it doesn't blow any smoke under power. Not knowing anything about cars, any ideas...

Driving along engine cuts out then back on agian.vs ute.

Fuel would probably be a cough-splutter sort of issue before it came back to life. Seeing as it is a clear stop-go sort of problem it sounds electrical. Checked alternator connections?

    Replacement seats in VS ute

There should be heaps of kits around that let you put another type of seat it, but be sure to see if you need to get it signed off by an engineer before going for rego. Some places will knock you back if the seat installation looks dodgy.

    need help

I had some lack of power and rough running intermittently, and I thought I had a dodgy coil pack so i did the old spark plug test - took each one out, looked for one that was not colored and worn like the rest - the lack of colour shows it isnt firing like the others are. Took them out and saw...

    Vr-vs ss fuel consumption

My sister has one, and gets around 11-12L/100 on the Hume Highway between Goulburn and Sydney but a lot higher around the local streets. They can be a bit thirsty when running around town (as expected).

    Odometer Stuck

I had the same problem. Got a new cog (the small one) and didnt need to remove speedo needle. Been working as normal since the new cog went in 20000kms ago. Dash was a bit fiddly to get out though. Watch those lugs!

    Steering wheel removal etc

I had a 95 VS and it had an airbag, then got a Suzuki for a few years and traded it for a 97 VS-II and it didnt have an airbag (and now has a nice momo leather wheel). I guess some had them and some didnt. Apparently mine was ex-govt and no govt VS had airbags. Not sure if it is true or not.

    Steering wheel removal etc

Def get a steering wheel puller from Supercheap etc. My horn stopped working and I had to re-solder the wire behind the steering wheel. Best $15 i spent!!

VT Rims (235/45 R17) onto a VR. Will it rub?

I do not have enough posts to offer items for sale (dont post a great deal, but I read this site almost daily), and hopefully I wont get in trouble for mentioning this here - but if anyone is interested in a set of VT SS rims with rubber, PM me as I have a set that were on my VS-II when I bought...

VS nearing end of life. Do I keep and restore?

Great insights. It would be out in the backyard under a tarp. There are some valid points on here - it would probably be better to 'invest restoration funds' (the term I use on my wife when I discussed this with her) on an old classic (like an EH etc) or even a Commodore that is a bit better...

VS nearing end of life. Do I keep and restore?

Just a general discussion here. I have a 97 VS-II and it is on the original motor (except for water pump) and refurb gearbox. It has faded paint, but no rust or dents. 330000kms on the clock. The interior is spotless with good seats and lining etc. It is only an Executive but it has a...

How many klm on ur vr vs commy motor

3rd owner VS II and it has 328000kms on it. Changed a water pump, temperature sensor, ignition module and thats it for the engine. I do my own services every 5-8000kms. It is just slightly starting to blow black smoke during hard revs but anything under 4000rpm and she just purrs along. No...

VS Commodore revving out in 1st gear and wont change.

This happened to my car. Driving along and box refused to go into 4th. Stayed in 3rd with the engine light on (limp home mode). I took it to a gearbox place and got quoted $1700 for a complete overhaul. After reading this I kinda think I got duped (if it was just a solenoid). It happened a...

    odometer trouble

Mine did that too. The guys here are right - it is a tiny cog (about the size of your pinky fingernail) located behind your ODO. There is a thread on here somewhere with detailed illustrated instructions on how to remove and replace it, and where to buy the new cog from. It isnt a big job and...

    Adding Cruise Control

I bought an aftermarket unit (from Kmart of all places!) for my previous car and it was brilliant! A day to install with a mate and it worked great. Easy to fit and wire in. Kept speed to about +/- 2kmh.

New pads and rotors soon. Should I DIY?

Also - totally agree about big chain-store mechanics. This VS was tram-tracking severely when I first got it. It was dangerous. It would take a groove in the lane and want to pull you out of the lane or into the gutter etc. I went to place that assured me they would give me a quote on rectifying...

New pads and rotors soon. Should I DIY?

Thanks for the replies guys. Much appreciated. I have taken your comments on board, but I think I will might play it safe and either take it a local mechanic, or at least get one of my mates who has done this before (on a falcon - but the principle would still be the same right?) to show me how...

New pads and rotors soon. Should I DIY?

Hi guys, I am up for some new brake pads and rotors on my 97 VS-II Sedan. I am thinking of doing it myself but was wondering if there are any special tools like a torque-wrench etc that I may need? Cheers.

    VS Odometer cog - FIX

I did mine too late last year. Got the cog from an instrument place in Brissy. Easy to do and now works like a charm too. This forum is AWESOME. I was never a DIY person until I discovered this place LOL.

    Heater pipes getting hot

I have a non-climate control VS Exec, and had the same problem. On full cold, the heater pipes were getting super-hot. Turned out to be the valve that shuts off the flow not closing completely when then dial was turned to full-cold. It was only a tiny amount - about 1mm, but enough to leave the...

    Just sayin hi.

Been browsing this site for ages, used a tonne of info to help with repairs to my 97 VS-II, but have just decided to register and say hi, and a big thank you to all the people who take the time to post up How-To's, with photos etc. I could not have done half of the stuff to my commodore without...
